The images offer clues about its lighting and bonnet; they do not establish its production specifications or launch date.
What do the Rolls-Royce electric SUV spy photos show?
The camouflaged vehicle appears to be a large, upright luxury SUV. Autocar describes it as Cullinan-sized and says the test mule looks close to production specification; that is the outlet’s assessment, not a statement from Rolls-Royce. The images reveal design details, but camouflage and prototype status make it impossible to treat every visible feature as final.
Lighting: a possible departure from today’s Cullinan
The Drive’s January 15, 2026 report interprets the front end as having main headlight projectors stacked vertically beneath a horizontal LED accent. It also notes rear lights that appear narrower and longer than those on the current combustion Cullinan. These are observations of spy images, not confirmed production lighting details. The Drive’s spy-photo report includes its interpretation of the vehicle’s appearance.
Bonnet: side-hinged openings and vertical daytime running lights
Autocar’s April 17, 2026 report describes a two-piece bonnet with side-hinged openings and vertical daytime running lights. It says the styling appears influenced by the Project Nightingale convertible. BMW Group has filed patents for the bonnet design, according to the report, but a patent does not confirm that this exact design will appear on a production vehicle. Autocar’s report also interprets the bonnet openings as possible access to a front trunk. That would be a first for the marque, but neither the storage compartment nor its function has been confirmed by Rolls-Royce.

Is Rolls-Royce making an electric Cullinan?
The photos and reporting support the description “Cullinan-sized electric Rolls-Royce SUV,” not a confirmed model name. Autocar says Rolls-Royce had disclosed no official details and quoted a spokesperson as “unable to comment on future product plans.” The company has not confirmed this vehicle’s name, specifications, model year, or launch timing in the sources cited here.
There is official context for why an electric SUV is plausible. In September 2021, Rolls-Royce announced that it intended to make its entire product portfolio fully electric by 2030. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, then the company’s CEO, said: “By then, Rolls-Royce will no longer be in the business of producing or selling any internal combustion engine products.” That is a company target announced in 2021—not confirmation that the photographed SUV is a production model. Rolls-Royce’s announcement also introduced Spectre and described its aluminium architecture as supporting future models with different powertrains.

When could the electric SUV arrive?
There is no manufacturer-announced reveal date or on-sale date in the cited reports. Autocar projected a reveal later in 2026 and sales about a year after that. Treat this as the outlet’s forecast, not a Rolls-Royce schedule. The headline year “2028” is therefore not a confirmed model year.
Autocar reported that Rolls-Royce’s Spectre testing programme covered 2.5 million kilometres and that the company described it as simulating more than 400 years of use. Those figures refer to the manufacturer’s Spectre programme, not development testing for the SUV in the spy photos.

How does this differ from the confirmed Cullinan and Spectre?
The current official US Cullinan page presents Cullinan Series II, a combustion model; it is a useful reference for the rear-light comparison, not proof of the prototype’s final design. Rolls-Royce directs customers to an authorized dealer for Cullinan pricing, which depends on specification. The official US Cullinan page has current model information and dealer contact options.
Spectre, by contrast, is confirmed: Rolls-Royce calls it its first fully electric car. In the company’s October 2022 launch release, Müller-Ötvös said, “Spectre is a Rolls-Royce first and an electric car second.” That statement and Spectre’s technical details apply to Spectre; they do not establish the SUV’s range, battery, motor output or hardware. The Spectre launch release provides the manufacturer’s account of that model.
