There is no universal winner: the right touring Harley depends on the model year, the fairing style you prefer, and how the exact bike fits you. For the 2025 U.S. models, the comparison is the fairing-free Road King Special versus the Batwing-faired Street Glide and Sharknose-faired Road Glide. Harley-Davidson’s 2026 U.S. touring lineup lists the two Glides, but not a Road King, so buyers shopping new should check the year and market rather than assume all three are current choices.
Start with the year and exact model
“Road King” can refer to different bikes across model years. In Harley-Davidson’s 2025 U.S. touring lineup, the relevant model is the Road King Special. The manufacturer’s 2026 U.S. touring index lists the Street Glide and Road Glide but no Road King model. That makes a year-specific comparison essential, especially when shopping used: do not treat older Road King specifications or features as if they describe the 2025 Special.
For a new-bike decision, compare the models actually offered in your market and model year. For a used-bike decision, narrow the search to a particular year and trim before comparing equipment, condition, or price.
How the three front ends differ
The clearest distinction in the 2025 U.S. lineup is the fairing arrangement. Harley-Davidson describes the Road King Special as fairing-free, the Street Glide with a Batwing fairing, and the Road Glide with a Sharknose fairing. These are different designs, not evidence that one is categorically more comfortable or handles better.

Figures and descriptions are Harley-Davidson’s specifications for 2025 U.S. models, not results from a controlled comparison. The available Road Glide information confirms its torque figure but does not support a complete side-by-side weight, fuel-economy, or luggage comparison.
Engine output: what the published numbers tell you
Harley-Davidson lists the 2025 Road King Special’s Milwaukee-Eight 114 at 95 hp and 122 ft-lb of torque. The 2025 Street Glide’s Milwaukee-Eight 117 is listed at 105 hp and 130 ft-lb; the 2025 Road Glide page also confirms 130 ft-lb of torque. The published figures distinguish the listed engines, but they do not by themselves establish how either bike feels in real-world riding or which is faster in a particular situation.

Fairing, fit, and the ride you prefer
Choose by what you can assess on the specific bike, rather than assuming a fairing name predicts comfort. Sit on each candidate and check reach to the bars, foot position, seat comfort, visibility, and how easily you can manage the bike at low speed. If possible, test ride the exact year and configuration you are considering. Pay attention to wind around your helmet and upper body at the speeds and riding positions you normally use; the official model pages do not provide a controlled head-to-head evaluation of wind buffeting, handling, or comfort.
- Consider the Road King Special if you want the 2025 fairing-free setup and its mini-ape handlebars.
- Compare the Street Glide’s Batwing and the Road Glide’s Sharknose in person if you want a fairing-equipped bike; decide based on your fit and wind preference.
- Do not use manufacturer output figures as a substitute for a test ride or a judgment about rider fit.
Features and touring practicality vary by year
For the 2025 Street Glide, Harley-Davidson lists 2.42 cubic feet of luggage capacity, 811 pounds running-order weight, and estimated fuel economy of 44 mpg. These are model-specific manufacturer figures, not a complete comparison across all three motorcycles. The available 2025 Road King Special description identifies stretched saddlebags, but does not give a directly comparable luggage volume in the cited information.

Technology also changes with model year. Harley-Davidson’s 2026 Street Glide page identifies a redesigned Batwing fairing and a 12.3-inch Skyline OS display. Those details apply to the 2026 Street Glide; they should not be carried over to the 2025 comparison or assumed to describe the Road Glide.
