Rivian’s reported 2024 promotion offered eligible U.S. gas- or hybrid-vehicle owners and lessees $3,000 toward a qualifying new R1S or R1T; the Canadian amount was $4,100 CAD. You did not have to trade in the existing vehicle, but the offer’s order and delivery deadlines have passed.
Did Rivian require a trade-in?
No. Under the promotion terms reproduced by Rivian Forums, an eligible customer had to document current ownership or a lease of a gas or hybrid vehicle, but did not have to trade it in or transfer it to Rivian. Contemporary coverage by Carscoops also described the incentive as not requiring a trade-in.
How much was the discount, and who could qualify?
The reproduced terms list a $3,000 USD discount in the United States and a $4,100 CAD discount in Canada. They describe eligibility for residents of either country who had reached the age of majority and could provide proof of current ownership or lease of a hybrid or internal-combustion vehicle. The customer using the offer had to be named on the relevant ownership or lease documents; the offer was nontransferable.
The terms called for a copy of the qualifying vehicle’s current registration or proof of insurance. They described the discount as applying to MSRP on a qualifying purchase or lease, and also allowed financing or cash transactions. It was limited to one discount per qualifying transaction, could not be redeemed for cash, and could not be exchanged for another benefit.

Which Rivian vehicles were included?
The reproduced rules limited the promotion to qualifying new 2025 R1S or R1T Dual or Tri configurations ordered through Rivian’s online Shop. They excluded custom builds, demo and pre-owned vehicles, other models, and Dual Standard configurations. In practical terms, owning an eligible gas or hybrid vehicle alone was not enough: the Rivian model, configuration, inventory channel, and timing also had to meet the stated terms.
When did the promotion end?
The reproduced terms set an order window of October 31 through November 30, 2024, and required delivery by December 31, 2024. Those dates have passed, so this particular gas- and hybrid-owner promotion is expired.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to interpret the reported terms
The detailed rules above come from a forum page reproducing the offer terms, with some details corroborated by contemporaneous automotive coverage. The original Rivian terms page was not available in the sources reviewed, so the reproduced rules should not be treated as independently authenticated official terms. The available sources support the key practical distinction: the 2024 offer did not require a trade-in, but it did require proof of an eligible gas or hybrid vehicle and a qualifying Rivian transaction completed within the specified window.
