What is included in the launch R2?
The R2 Performance is not a stripped-down model wearing a low headline price. Its equipment list combines performance hardware, premium cabin features, and useful utility equipment.

Some of the $57,990 story depends on the Launch Package, rather than the permanent standard equipment list for every future R2 Performance. For a limited time, Rivian says the package includes:
- A launch key fob
- The Tow Package
- Autonomy+
- The option of Launch Green paint
Buyers should confirm the exact equipment and package availability when ordering. A launch bundle is inherently time-limited, so it should not be treated as a promise that every R2 Performance sold later will include the same accessories, colors, or software features.
Autonomy+ is driver assistance, not autonomous driving
Rivian describes Autonomy+ as a driver-assistance product. It should not be called self-driving or autonomous transportation. The driver remains responsible for monitoring the vehicle, remaining attentive, and taking control when required. Its inclusion in the Launch Package does not remove the need for an alert, engaged driver.
Charging: NACS is standard across the R2 range
Every R2 uses a NACS charge port. Rivian says R2 owners will have access to more than 21,000 Tesla Superchargers in the United States and Canada, expanding the number of fast-charging locations available to the vehicle.

Under stated conditions, Rivian says the R2 can add 150 miles of range in 15 minutes. Rivian’s pre-production drive information also describes an approximately 30-minute 10–80% DC-fast-charging session under optimal conditions.
Those numbers are charging estimates, not a guarantee for every stop. Actual charging speed depends on the battery’s state of charge and temperature, the charger’s output, weather, site conditions, and other variables. Charging generally slows as the battery fills, so a short stop and a near-full charge are not equivalent use cases.
Where an adapter is required to use a Tesla Supercharger, Rivian’s guidance says owners should use only the Rivian-provided NACS DC adapter authorized for that network. An unverified third-party DC adapter should not be treated as an equivalent substitute.
Home charging is extra
The R2’s $57,990 vehicle price does not include a home charger or installation. Rivian sells an NACS wall charger separately, while installation may require electrical work, permitting, and compliance with local requirements. Prospective owners should confirm their home’s panel capacity, circuit needs, parking arrangement, and installer requirements before assuming that home charging will be inexpensive or straightforward.

The headline price is the vehicle MSRP, not an all-in ownership budget. In addition to taxes and fees, buyers may need to budget for home charging, installation, insurance, registration, and accessories.

If you are comparing options, search specifically for Rivian R2 floor mats rather than assuming mats from another vehicle will fit. Rivian warns that mats designed for a different vehicle should not be used in an R2 and that an improperly fitted mat can interfere with pedals or vehicle controls. The comparison is important because the launch price can create the impression that the R2 is immediately a roughly $45,000 electric SUV. That is not what Rivian’s launch plan says. The first vehicle carries the Performance name and includes the most aggressive output, AWD hardware, premium equipment, and Launch Package contents. Lower prices arrive later, with trim details, final equipment, timing, and availability subject to change.

The launch R2 makes the most sense for a buyer who wants Rivian’s smaller SUV format but values performance and equipment over the lowest possible purchase price. Its claimed 656 horsepower, 3.6-second acceleration estimate, AWD, towing hardware, 330-mile EPA-estimated range, premium seating, and NACS charging access give it a strong specification sheet for the money.
It is less clearly the right choice for someone whose main goal is the lowest-cost R2. That buyer has to wait for the Premium or Standard configurations and compare their final prices, range, drivetrain, equipment, and delivery timing once Rivian provides those details.
There is also a practical timing question. Rivian’s announced prices are not a guarantee of the final transaction amount: taxes, fees, charging equipment, accessories, financing, insurance, and local costs can materially raise the amount required to put an R2 into service.
Bottom line
At $57,990, the Rivian R2 is a launch-edition Performance SUV with dual-motor AWD, 656 horsepower, a 330-mile EPA-estimated range, a 3.6-second Rivian-estimated 0–60 mph time, and a 4,400-pound tow rating. It also includes a premium cabin and, for a limited time, the Launch Package with the Tow Package, Autonomy+, a launch key fob, and the option of Launch Green paint.
The trade-off is that this is not the long-promised low-entry R2. Buyers seeking a roughly $45,000 version will need to wait for later Standard variants, currently expected from 2027 onward. And regardless of trim, the vehicle price does not cover taxes, fees, home charging, installation, or every useful R2 accessory.
