Rivian said on February 10, 2025, that businesses could purchase its fully electric Commercial Van. That was a later step than the company’s November 2023 announcement, which outlined a planned U.S. launch and phased rollout. The announcements establish availability as of February 2025—not current pricing, inventory, delivery timing, configurations, or eligibility rules. Businesses considering a van should confirm those details directly with Rivian Fleet Sales.
What Rivian announced—and when
On November 7, 2023, Rivian announced plans to launch its Commercial Van in the United States, with small-scale deployments planned for 2024 and deliveries expected to scale in 2025. At that time, the company said it would initially prioritize larger fleet requests. Those were plans stated in 2023, not evidence of current order policy.
On February 10, 2025, Rivian said businesses could purchase the fully electric van. Its announcement described interest from trades such as plumbers and electricians, delivery services, floral businesses, grocery stores and bakeries, dry cleaners and linen services, and dog groomers. That list reflects interest Rivian reported; it is not an independent survey of demand.
What is known about the van
Rivian’s 2023 U.S. announcement described a smaller commercial van size with the following figures. They are company-provided, source-dated specifications, not a current configurator sheet; confirm the specifications for the vehicle being quoted.

The same announcement described automatic emergency braking and other driver-assistance features, three airbags, and a 360-degree camera displayed on a 15.6-inch center screen. It also listed a curb-side sliding door, rear roll-up door, automated bulkhead door, heated and cooled driver’s seat, and heated steering wheel. These descriptions do not establish which features or configurations are available for a current order.
Rivian said the van is built on the same platform as its Amazon Electric Delivery Van. In its February 2025 account, the company said its vans had accumulated millions of miles and discussed visibility, driver comfort, connectivity, and software updates. Those are Rivian’s descriptions of its experience, not independent reliability or safety findings.

Charging and depot readiness
Tom Solomon, Rivian’s Senior Director of B2B Sales & Business Development, said: “Most customers will use a Level 2 charger, plug-in overnight, and charge to 100%.” He added that Rivian’s team can advise on charging installation and setup. That describes a pattern Rivian says is typical among its customers; it is not a specification for every route, charger, or facility.
Before committing to vehicles, a fleet should assess its depot’s electrical capacity, installation scope, charging schedule, and vehicles’ routes and duty cycles with qualified providers. The cited Rivian materials do not specify a charger model, electrical requirements, or a third-party compatibility list. Ask Rivian Fleet Sales and the installer to confirm the requirements for the exact vehicle and site.

Upfits and warranty questions
Rivian says it has partnered with U.S. upfitters and encourages businesses to discuss their needs with Fleet Sales. Its commercial warranty guide refers to Rivian Preferred Upfit Partners and describes exclusions involving certain modifications. Before approving a conversion, verify that the installer and proposed work meet Rivian’s current requirements, and get clarity on how the work could affect coverage.
Rivian’s Commercial New Vehicle Limited Warranty guide, effective December 31, 2024, says the warranty applies to vehicles sold and registered in the United States, with warranty service in the 50 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and Canada. Exceptions, exclusions, state-specific rights, and the applicable guide matter. Check the warranty documentation tied to the actual sale rather than assuming these source-dated terms cover every vehicle or circumstance.

Rivian’s February 2025 article says buyers commonly ask about cost savings and total cost of ownership, but it provides no vehicle price or quantified savings analysis. Build a comparison around your own operating conditions rather than assuming an electric van will reduce costs.

- Get a current purchase or lease quote and a separate estimate for the required upfit.
- Model electricity costs using local rates, likely charging times, and actual routes; include depot installation costs.
- Check that payload, GVWR, cargo-body dimensions, and access points suit the loads and equipment you carry.
- Account for charging downtime, vehicle utilization, insurance, maintenance, and warranty coverage.
- Check which incentives, if any, apply to your business and location.
When comparing alternatives, evaluate each van against the same routes and work requirements. Useful comparison points include payload and GVWR, cargo dimensions and door access, route range and charging downtime, vehicle and upfit price, depot costs, maintenance and warranty, driver visibility and ergonomics, service coverage, and fleet software needs. Rivian’s cited materials do not provide a complete rival-by-rival comparison or an independent performance test.
Questions to take to Rivian Fleet Sales
Because the public announcements do not establish current commercial terms, ask for vehicle-specific answers before building a fleet plan:
- Which configurations and specifications can you order now, and what are the quoted vehicle and upfit prices?
- What are the current ordering requirements, inventory status, and estimated delivery timing for your business and location?
- What charging equipment and site requirements apply to the specific van, and who can validate installation at your depot?
- Which upfitters and modifications are currently approved, and how will the work affect warranty coverage?
- Which warranty guide and service arrangements will apply to the vehicle being sold?
In Rivian’s 2023 announcement, CEO RJ Scaringe said, “Around a quarter of CO2 emitted in the US transportation sector comes from commercial vans.” Rivian’s page does not provide the underlying study or methodology, so treat that as Scaringe’s stated figure rather than an independently verified statistic.
