River Indie vs Ola S1 Pro Gen 3 (3 kWh vs 4 kWh): range, performance, charging and price compared

The River Indie and Ola S1 Pro Gen 3 are not one-to-one rivals until you identify the Ola battery. This guide compares the Indie with both Gen 3 Pro variants and explains what the published range, performance, charging and price figures do—and do not—prove.

Short answer: the right choice depends on which Ola S1 Pro Gen 3 battery you mean. The 3 kWh Pro is the price-oriented option and its published range is only modestly above the River Indie’s third-party claimed figure. The 4 kWh Pro offers a much larger manufacturer-published IDC range, but costs more. River’s Indie has a reported 4 kWh battery and 6.7 kW motor, while its top speed and acceleration are not established by the available specification extract. None of these range figures is a controlled, side-by-side real-world test.

The comparison below uses Ola’s current product-page data and River figures reported by third-party specification pages. Ex-showroom prices are dated snapshots; obtain a current dealer quote for the exact variant and your city before deciding.

River Indie vs Ola S1 Pro: the comparison at a glance

The name “Ola S1 Pro” covers materially different Gen 3 configurations. Ola lists both 3 kWh and 4 kWh versions, with different range, top-speed and price figures. Treating them as one scooter produces a misleading result.

Which Ola S1 Pro version should be compared with the Indie?

Ola S1 Pro Gen 3, 3 kWh

This is the lower-capacity Gen 3 battery variant. Its manufacturer-published IDC range sits relatively close to the Indie’s third-party claimed range, making it the more relevant comparison for a buyer focused on initial price and ordinary urban commuting. Its listed performance figures are still higher than the Indie figures that are documented in the available sources, but the measurements do not come from a common test procedure.

Ola S1 Pro Gen 3, 4 kWh

The 4 kWh Pro is the long-range choice in Ola’s lineup. It uses the same stated peak-power figure as the 3 kWh version but has a higher published top speed and a substantially larger IDC range. Its higher ex-showroom price means the extra range is not free: compare the premium with how often you actually need to ride beyond the practical daily charge window.

River Indie

The Indie is reported as a 4 kWh scooter with a 6.7 kW motor. Those specifications make it a legitimate alternative to both Ola variants, but they do not by themselves prove better acceleration, top speed or usable range. The surfaced River data is from third-party pages rather than a River-owned specification page, and the available excerpts do not establish the Indie’s top speed or 0–40 km/h time.

Which has more range?

How the published figures differ

Ola quotes IDC range, while the Indie figure is described as a claimed range by ZigWheels. IDC is a standardized test-cycle result supplied by the manufacturer; a claimed figure on a third-party specification page may use a different basis. Because the numbers are not generated under one documented, side-by-side procedure, ranking them as if they were laboratory-equivalent measurements would overstate the evidence.

Ola S1 Pro Gen 3, 3 kWh Manufacturer IDC 176 km Cycle result for this specific battery variant

What this means for a daily route

For a short, predictable commute with charging at home, the 3 kWh Pro and Indie may both fit the use case even though their published figures are not directly comparable. The 4 kWh Pro is more attractive when you regularly cover long distances, have an irregular route, or want a larger buffer between charges.

Use your own route rather than the headline number. Add up the kilometres you normally ride between charging opportunities, then allow a reserve for detours, traffic, weather, passenger load and battery ageing. If you cannot charge at home or at work, the ability to reach a public charger matters as much as the nominal range. Ask the dealer which battery percentage they recommend before a long trip and whether the quoted range assumes a particular riding mode or speed.

Why real-world range is still unknown here

No controlled test covering the Indie and both Gen 3 Pro variants was found. There is therefore no defensible claim about which scooter travels farther in identical traffic, temperature, rider weight and speed conditions. Treat every published figure as an orientation point, not a promise of everyday kilometres.

Which scooter is faster?

Ola’s documented performance

Ola publishes 11 kW peak power for both Gen 3 Pro battery sizes. It lists a 0–40 km/h time of 2.7 seconds for each, while the stated top speed differs between the variants. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent instrumented test results, but they provide a clear specification distinction between the two Pros.

What is established about the Indie

The Indie’s available specification listing reports 6.7 kW motor power. The surfaced extract does not provide a verified top speed or 0–40 km/h time, so it is not possible to calculate a reliable acceleration or maximum-speed advantage for either scooter. A lower or higher kW number alone also cannot predict launch feel: controller calibration, traction, rider mass, tyre condition and riding mode affect the result.

Choosing on performance

Choose the Ola if published acceleration and top-speed figures are important to your decision and you want a specification you can compare within one manufacturer’s range. Choose the Indie only after a test ride if responsiveness, seating position, low-speed balance or braking feel matters more than an unverified headline number. A test ride cannot establish range, but it can reveal whether the scooter’s throttle response and ergonomics suit your traffic conditions.

Which charges faster?

Ola’s charging claim

Ola lists 4 hours 50 minutes to reach 80% from empty using home charging for both Gen 3 Pro variants. The percentage and starting point matter: this is not a claim that a completely depleted battery reaches 100% in that time.

River’s reported charging time

ZigWheels reports approximately five hours to full for the Indie. Other comparison listings publish different intervals, and the available pages do not establish a single consistent charger specification or test condition. That makes a definitive “faster charging” verdict unsafe. Confirm whether the quoted time assumes the supplied home charger, a particular input supply, a temperature range or a partial top-up.

Questions to ask before paying

  • Is the charger included in the quoted price, and what output does it use?
  • Is the time measured from a fully depleted battery or from a stated starting percentage?
  • Does the estimate end at 80% or 100%?
  • Can the charger run safely from the socket and wiring available at your parking space?
  • What happens to charging time in high heat or low temperatures?

For an owner who plugs in every night, the exact difference between the listed intervals may matter less than having a secure, weather-protected socket. For occasional long rides, the absence or availability of compatible public charging can be more important than the home-charge estimate.

Which is cheaper?

Ola’s listed ex-showroom prices

Ola’s current comparison table shows ₹1,28,371 for the S1 Pro Gen 3 3 kWh and ₹1,49,999 for the 4 kWh version. These are ex-showroom figures, not the amount you necessarily pay to register and ride the scooter. Taxes, registration, insurance, local incentives, accessories, financing and dealer charges can change the on-road total.

Why River prices conflict

Third-party pages do not agree on a single current Indie price. BikeDekho lists the Indie at ₹1,45,999 in its comparison, while another contemporaneous comparison gives different price and charging figures. The ZigWheels comparison and the Hindustan Times Auto comparison illustrate why an online figure should not be treated as a dealer quote.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ask River or an authorised dealer for a written, city-specific quotation for the exact Indie configuration. Request the same breakdown for the chosen Ola variant. Compare both on-road totals, not one scooter’s ex-showroom price against the other’s financed or registration-inclusive amount.

How the price decision changes by variant

The 3 kWh Pro is the natural price-first benchmark because Ola lists it below the 4 kWh Pro. The 4 kWh Pro may still be better value for a rider who would otherwise pay for frequent charging stops, arrange a second charging location or accept inconvenient reserve margins. The Indie’s position cannot be fixed until its current local price is confirmed.

River Indie vs Ola S1 Pro: practical decision guide

Pick the 3 kWh Ola S1 Pro Gen 3 when

  • Your daily route is predictable and comfortably within the smaller battery’s usable window.
  • You want the lower of Ola’s two listed Gen 3 Pro prices.
  • You value documented manufacturer figures for acceleration and top speed.
  • You can charge at home after most rides.

Pick the 4 kWh Ola S1 Pro Gen 3 when

  • You regularly ride long distances or need more reserve between charging opportunities.
  • The higher purchase price fits your budget after checking the full on-road quote.
  • You want the higher published IDC range and top-speed figure within the S1 Pro Gen 3 range.
  • You prefer comparing battery variants backed by one manufacturer’s published specifications.

Consider the River Indie when

  • You prefer its design, riding position or storage layout after a test ride.
  • A local River quotation is competitive with the exact Ola variant you are considering.
  • The reported 4 kWh battery and 6.7 kW motor suit your priorities, while you accept that top speed and acceleration are not established in the available specification extract.
  • You can verify charger inclusion, warranty terms and service arrangements directly before purchase.

What to verify before booking either scooter

  1. Write down the exact model. For Ola, specify S1 Pro Gen 3 and 3 kWh or 4 kWh. Do not accept a quote that says only “S1 Pro.”
  2. Match the range basis. Ask whether the number is IDC, claimed, or measured by the seller, and do not compare unlike bases as a controlled test.
  3. Get an itemised on-road quote. Include registration, insurance, taxes, accessories, charger and any delivery or documentation fees.
  4. Confirm charging hardware. Record whether a home charger is included, its electrical requirements and the stated time-to-percentage.
  5. Check the battery and vehicle warranty in writing. The available comparison data does not establish equivalent warranty coverage for the Indie and Ola.
  6. Plan your installation. Confirm that your parking location has a safe, suitable power point and protection from weather and tampering.
  7. Ride both if possible. Try stop-and-go traffic, a U-turn, a speed hump and a short faster section. Pay attention to throttle modulation, braking, seat comfort, mirror position and ease of manoeuvring.
  8. Ask about local support. Verify the nearest authorised service point, expected maintenance process and parts availability; the cited specifications do not establish service quality or reliability.
  9. Recheck the price on purchase day. Ex-showroom prices and local schemes can change, and third-party pages may update at different times.

Important limits of this comparison

The Indie figures available for this comparison come from third-party specification and comparison pages, not a surfaced River-owned specification page. Their prices and charging intervals conflict. Ola’s numbers are manufacturer-published specifications for the named Gen 3 variants. Neither source set supplies an independent, controlled range test for all three scooters.

Accordingly, this article does not claim that one model has better ownership reliability, service, warranty coverage, braking performance or real-world range. Those decisions require current written terms and, where possible, your own test ride and route evaluation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line

There is no single winner until you choose the Ola battery size. The 3 kWh S1 Pro Gen 3 is the lower-price, shorter-range Ola comparison; the 4 kWh version is the range-led choice at a higher listed price. The Indie remains a credible alternative on its reported 4 kWh battery and 6.7 kW motor, but its published third-party data is less complete and conflicts on price and charging details. Compare the same range basis, obtain matching local on-road quotes and choose the scooter that leaves an appropriate reserve for your actual route.
