Michael Dunlop has the most Isle of Man TT race wins: 36 through the 2026 TT. His uncle Joey Dunlop held the record with 26 until Michael passed it in 2024. The top 10 cutoff is tied, so this list includes 11 riders to show every competitor on 12 wins.

How the ranking is counted

The totals below count race wins credited to individual competitors in the Isle of Man TT’s official results database. They are not podiums, lap records or meeting victories. Sidecar riders are counted individually: Ben Birchall and Tom Birchall each have 14 wins, rather than being listed as one winning crew. The official archive covers the event from its 1907 inception and is powered by Manx National Heritage’s iMuseum; see the archive announcement and official results database.

The database’s cumulative totals are displayed through 2025. Michael Dunlop’s 36 is updated through the 2026 TT by adding the three race wins credited to him in the official 2026 awards recap to his database total of 33 through 2025. The remaining totals below are those shown in the cumulative results table.

The riders with the most Isle of Man TT wins

Rank Rider TT race wins Context
1 Michael Dunlop 36 Through the 2026 TT; three wins in 2026 added to his 33 through 2025.
2 Joey Dunlop 26 Former record holder; his first win came in 1977 and his final one in 2000.
3 John McGuinness 23 Official cumulative database total.
4 Dave Molyneux 17 Official cumulative database total.
5 Ian Hutchinson 16 Official cumulative database total.
Tied 6th Ben Birchall 14 Sidecar competitor; counted individually.
Tied 6th Tom Birchall 14 Sidecar competitor; counted individually.
Tied 6th Mike Hailwood 14 Official cumulative database total.
Tied 6th Peter Hickman 14 Official cumulative database total.
Tied 10th Bruce Anstey 12 Official cumulative database total.
Tied 10th Ian Lougher 12 Official cumulative database total.

Ranks use competition ranking: tied riders share a place, and the next place is skipped. That makes the 14-win group tied sixth and the two riders on 12 tied tenth. This explains why a list showing every rider at the cutoff contains 11 names, despite the title’s “10 riders.” All totals other than Michael Dunlop’s 2026 update come from the official cumulative results.

How Michael Dunlop took the record

Joey Dunlop won his first TT in 1977. In 1992, his 14th victory equalled Mike Hailwood’s then-record; Joey eventually raised the benchmark to 26, with his final win coming in 2000. The official TT history records that last victory.

Michael Dunlop broke his uncle’s record on 5 June 2024, when he won the Supertwin TT Race 1 for his 27th victory. Isle of Man TT Races’ report of the record-breaking win identifies the milestone; a later 2024 recap says four more victories that summer took his tally to 29. He then reached 33 in the official 2025 totals before adding three victories in 2026.

What the totals tell you

  • The leader is still adding to the record: Michael Dunlop’s 36 is current through the 2026 event, not a lifetime total for a retired rider.
  • The gap to second is substantial: Michael’s 36 is 10 more than Joey’s 26.
  • The middle of the table is tightly grouped: McGuinness has 23, followed by Molyneux on 17 and Hutchinson on 16; four competitors share 14.
  • Individual credits matter: the Birchall brothers’ sidecar wins count for each rider in the database.
