10 Reasons the Ferrari Roma Is a Practical Grand Tourer

The Roma’s 2+ cabin, boot access and touring features make it a versatile Ferrari, but the coupe and Spider differ and the “most practical ever” claim is not a measured ranking.

The Ferrari Roma makes a persuasive case for practical grand touring: it has a 2+ cabin, a luggage-focused boot with access for longer items, touring-oriented comfort features and, in Spider form, a powered soft top. Those qualities make “most practical Ferrari ever” a useful editorial proposition—not a proven ranking. Ferrari’s published specifications do not compare the Roma with every Ferrari, and they do not establish adult rear-seat comfort, real-world fuel range or ownership costs.

What makes the Roma practical—and what the claim means

Ferrari describes the Roma coupe as a 2+ car. That layout gives it two rear seats in addition to the front pair, but the available specifications do not establish that those seats are comfortable for adults. It is more accurate to treat them as occasional-use seats or extra flexibility for passengers and belongings.

The case for practicality is about versatility within a high-performance grand tourer: carrying luggage, making longer journeys more comfortable and offering some flexibility beyond a two-seat sports car. It is not a claim that the Roma is economical to run or as accommodating as an ordinary family car.

10 reasons the Roma makes a practical Ferrari

1. It has a 2+ layout

The coupe’s rear seats add options that a two-seat layout would not. They may suit occasional passengers or provide extra carrying flexibility, but Ferrari’s technical sheet does not provide rear-seat dimensions or prove adult comfort. See Ferrari’s Roma technical specifications.

  • Quality Construction Materials: Made of durable zinc alloy diecast metal with some plastic parts and rubber tires for enhanced realism and longevity

2. The coupe has a published boot capacity for touring luggage

Ferrari lists the coupe’s boot capacity as 272 litres/345 litres. The technical sheet gives both figures without an explanation of the measurement convention, so they should be reported as published rather than collapsed into one unqualified capacity. The figures support a luggage-focused touring case, but do not by themselves show what a particular suitcase will fit.

3. A rear-seatback opening helps with longer items

Ferrari describes a hatch via the rear seatbacks for carrying larger items. That pass-through can be useful for cargo too long for the boot alone, although the available material does not specify the opening’s dimensions or the size of items it will accept.

4. The fuel tank is sized for a touring role, but range is unproven

Ferrari lists an 80-litre fuel tank for the coupe. Its technical sheet marks fuel consumption as “Under homologation,” so the tank figure cannot establish a driving range. No real-world fuel-economy or range result is supported here.

5. The cabin has comfort features suited to longer drives

Ferrari’s Roma Spider press material lists heated seats with 18-way adjustment. These are concrete comfort features, but the claim is tied to that Spider material; equipment can vary by market and configuration, so confirm the specification of the exact car rather than assuming every Roma has them.

6. Phone integration can make everyday use more convenient

The same Spider material lists wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. These features can simplify access to compatible phone apps without a cable, but availability should be checked against the model year, market and individual vehicle.

7. The Spider can be opened quickly without making roof operation a major chore

In its 16 March 2023 launch release, Ferrari said the Roma Spider’s roof opens in 13.5 seconds at speeds up to 60 km/h. That makes changing between roof-up and open-air driving a practical part of the Spider’s touring brief; it is a manufacturer-published specification, not an independent operating test. Ferrari’s 2023 launch release describes the roof.

8. Ferrari designed an integrated wind deflector for open-top comfort

Ferrari’s launch release says a patented wind deflector is integrated into the rear seatback to support top-down comfort. The feature addresses one specific inconvenience of open-air touring; it does not mean the Spider has the coupe’s luggage capacity or eliminates all wind exposure.

9. Driver assistance is available as an option on relevant cars

Ferrari Owners’ Club GB describes optional driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, as aids for day-to-day use and longer journeys. This is secondary material, not a guarantee of standard equipment. Check the exact car’s option list and market specification. The club’s Roma overview discusses the systems.

10. The touring features coexist with serious performance

Ferrari specifies 620 cv maximum power, 760 Nm maximum torque, a 0–100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed above 320 km/h. These figures explain why the Roma is best understood as a fast grand tourer with useful versatility, not as a car whose practicality comes from modest performance or ordinary-car running costs. Ferrari publishes them in the Roma technical specifications.

Roma coupe and Roma Spider: practical differences

The Spider is a distinct body style, and its luggage figure should not be blended with the coupe’s. Ferrari publishes different boot-capacity specifications for the two cars; because the coupe sheet does not explain its slash-separated figures, the exact usable-capacity difference cannot be established from these documents alone.

Feature Roma coupe Roma Spider
Roof Coupe body Powered soft top; Ferrari’s 16 March 2023 launch release specifies 13.5 seconds to open at speeds up to 60 km/h.
Published boot capacity 272 litres/345 litres; Ferrari does not explain the two measurement conventions in the technical sheet. 255 litres, according to Ferrari’s Spider technical sheet.
Long-item access Ferrari describes an opening via the rear seatbacks for larger items. Ferrari’s Spider material also describes a hatch via the rear seatbacks for larger items.
Open-top comfort feature Not applicable to the coupe roof. Ferrari describes a wind deflector integrated into the rear seatback.

Sources: Ferrari Roma technical specifications, Roma Spider technical specifications and the 16 March 2023 Spider launch release. Ferrari’s separate Roma Spider press material describes the pass-through, heated 18-way seats and wireless phone integration; availability depends on market and configuration.

What the available evidence does not establish

Ferrari’s specifications and feature descriptions make a case for grand-touring versatility, not for an objective all-time practicality ranking. The sources do not establish real-world fuel economy or range, service or insurance costs, reliability, parking ease, ground-clearance behavior, adult rear-seat comfort or a representative picture of owner experience. A fair comparison with another Ferrari would need matched model years and comparable evidence on passenger space, usable luggage capacity, comfort equipment and operating costs.

In 2020, Openers quoted Federico Pastorelli, identified as President of Ferrari Japan, saying the Roma was expected to deliver comfort and a driving experience for Japanese users as a daily car. That is a named representative’s expectation, not a report of measured results or broad owner experience. Openers’ 2 April 2020 article provides the context.
