The Richard Mille RM 65-01 McLaren W1 is an automatic split-seconds chronograph created through the watchmaker’s collaboration with McLaren. It uses Richard Mille’s RMAC4 movement, a Carbon TPT case and grade 5 titanium components. What is the RM 65-01 McLaren W1?
Richard Mille describes the watch as inspired by the McLaren W1. McLaren calls it the fourth creation to emerge from its partnership with Richard Mille, a relationship that has produced several collaborative watches. What movement is in the RM 65-01 McLaren W1?
It uses Richard Mille calibre RMAC4, a skeletonised automatic movement with a split-seconds chronograph. Richard Mille lists a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz), 51 jewels and approximately 60 hours of power reserve. The brand says actual reserve depends on use of the chronograph; these are manufacturer-published specifications, not independently verified performance results. (Richard Mille)

Richard Mille says the balance can measure to one tenth of a second. The manufacturer also describes the function selector as choosing winding, date-setting or hand-setting mode; a hand at 4 o’clock indicates W, D or H. Its rapid-winding pusher rearms the barrel after the watch has stopped, while the variable-geometry rotor can be adjusted to adapt winding to the wearer’s activity. Case materials, water resistance and dimensions
The case is made from Carbon TPT, with grade 5 titanium elements. Richard Mille specifies a bezel combining grade 5 titanium and Carbon TPT, grade 5 titanium pusher protectors, and a grade 5 titanium crown with papaya-orange rubber coating. The tripartite case is rated to 50 metres of water resistance. The RMAC4 baseplate and bridges are also grade 5 titanium. (Richard Mille)
Richard Mille describes Carbon TPT as layers of carbon filaments impregnated with resin, with the weave direction shifted between layers. The brand makes additional comparative claims about breaking stresses and micro-cracks; these are manufacturer claims, not independent material-test results. (Richard Mille)
