What is the Richard Mille RM 50-03 McLaren F1?
Introduced in 2017, the RM 50-03 was made through a collaboration between Richard Mille and McLaren F1. Richard Mille’s model page identifies it as a hand-wound tourbillon movement with a split-seconds chronograph and lists the model as a 75-piece limited edition.
McLaren’s January 2017 launch announcement said the numbered examples would be available only through Richard Mille boutiques. It also said each watch would include a 1:5 scale model of the 2017 McLaren-Honda car. Those are launch-era details; they do not establish present-day stock or availability.
How much does the RM 50-03 weigh?
Richard Mille says the complete RM 50-03 weighs less than 40 grams, including the strap. The brand separately describes the movement as weighing 7 grams. These figures refer to different things: the 7-gram figure is not the weight of the complete watch.

The brand presented the model as the world’s lightest mechanical chronograph at its release. That is a historical manufacturer claim, not a current independent comparison across all watches. Richard Mille also reports that its in-house casing shock tests reached 5,000 g; that is the manufacturer’s stated test result, not an independently validated result.
What makes it so lightweight?
Richard Mille attributes the low weight to a combination of material choices and movement construction. Its model page identifies grade 5 titanium, Carbon TPT and Graph TPT, alongside extensive skeletonisation. The brand says the baseplate and bridges use Carbon TPT, and describes Graph TPT as an improved form of Carbon TPT developed with collaborators that include the University of Manchester, McLaren Applied Technologies and North Thin Ply Technology.

Graphene is not used as a bulk material in the way a metal sheet or block would be. McLaren Group COO Jonathan Neale explained the distinction in the launch coverage: “When people talk about graphene, they’re not talking about a bulk material – you don’t get blocks or rolls of graphene – it exists at an atomic level, but can used to strengthen, toughen, and lighten carbon-fibre composites.” The quoted wording is McLaren’s.
Which complications and indicators does it have?
The RM 50-03 combines a tourbillon with a split-seconds chronograph. Richard Mille’s specifications also list the following functions:

The split-seconds function is designed to time intermediate events while a chronograph is running. The indicators communicate information about the movement’s state; they are distinct from the timekeeping and chronograph functions.
How much did the RM 50-03 cost?
A 2017 reference document from the Foundation of Haute Horlogerie trends site lists an indicated price of CHF 980,000 excluding VAT. This is historical Swiss-franc price evidence, not a verified US-dollar price. The source supplies no exchange-rate date, and the figure should not be restated as exactly $1,000,000.

That list figure also does not establish what an RM 50-03 sells for now. Current pricing, recent completed sale prices, authenticity and availability have not been confirmed here, so the 2017 figure is not a resale valuation.
