The choice between them is clearer in everyday packaging: Renault Ireland lists 326 litres of boot space for the 5 and 420 litres for the 4. Megane and Scenic suit larger-car needs, with more range, space and rapid-charging power in the Ireland-market specifications.
Renault’s four electric cars at a glance
The table keeps Renault UK’s maximum range figures separate from Renault Ireland’s 2026 battery, charging and boot specifications. Renault publishes different figures by market, version and homologation status, so these columns should not be read as one identical specification.
| Model | UK maximum WLTP range | Ireland battery options | Ireland maximum DC charging | Ireland boot capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Renault 5 E-Tech electric | 252 miles | 40 or 52 kWh | 100 kW | 326 L |
| Renault 4 E-Tech electric | 249 miles | 40 or 52 kWh | 100 kW | 420 L |
| Megane E-Tech electric | 285 miles | 60 kWh | 130 kW | 440 L; up to 1,332 L with rear seats folded |
| Scenic E-Tech electric | 381 miles | 60 or 87 kWh | 150 kW | 545 L; up to 1,670 L with rear seats folded |

Which Renault EV fits your space and driving needs?
Renault 5: the smaller, city-focused hatchback
The Renault 5 is the most compact choice in Renault Ireland’s comparison and has the smallest listed boot, at 326 L. Its Ireland-market range reaches 410 km WLTP, while Renault UK lists up to 252 miles. Those are market-specific maximums, not a promise of the distance a particular car will cover between charges.

Renault 4: more boot space with similar listed range
Renault Ireland positions the Renault 4 as a compact crossover. Its 420 L boot is 94 L larger than the Renault 5’s in the Ireland comparison, while both are listed with the same maximum range of 410 km there. UK figures are also close: 249 miles for the 4 against 252 miles for the 5. Choose between them primarily by body style, cargo needs and the specific version available to you, rather than expecting a large range gap.
Megane: family hatchback with a larger-car charging step
Renault Ireland describes the Megane as a family hatchback. Its 60 kWh battery specification, 130 kW maximum DC charging and 440 L boot place it above the 5 and 4 on charging power and listed cargo room. The boot expands to up to 1,332 L with the rear seats folded. Renault UK lists maximum WLTP range of 285 miles.

Scenic: the range and load-space leader
The Scenic is Renault Ireland’s family SUV in this comparison. Its 60 or 87 kWh battery options, 150 kW maximum DC charging and 545 L boot make it the largest-capacity option here; folding the rear seats gives up to 1,670 L. Renault UK lists up to 381 miles WLTP, the highest of these four cars. The longer-range claim corresponds to a maximum figure, not an independently measured everyday result.
Range figures vary by country and version
WLTP is useful for comparing homologated figures, but it is not a prediction of your personal range. Renault says weather, driving style, vehicle load and other conditions affect results. UK, Ireland and France pages also publish different maximums: Renault Ireland’s 2026 comparison lists 410 km for both Renault 5 and Renault 4, 460 km for Megane and 610 km for Scenic. Renault France’s current lineup page lists up to 430 km for Renault 5, 415 km for Renault 4 (shown as pending homologation), 500 km for Megane and 642 km for Scenic.

Do not combine these national figures or convert them into a single cross-market ranking for a car that may have a different battery, trim or homologation. When comparing local offers, check the exact model year, battery, trim and market-specific WLTP range. Renault’s France lineup page illustrates the differences; its claims do not replace the specification for a UK or Ireland vehicle.
Charging: home AC and public rapid DC
Home charging
Renault Ireland lists up to 11 kW AC charging for Megane and Scenic and describes a 7.4–11 kW wallbox as a typical home setup. It estimates four to six hours for a 15–80% charge at home, depending on battery size. A car’s maximum AC capability does not mean every home installation will supply that power: charging depends on the vehicle version and the wallbox and electrical supply installed.

Rapid charging on longer trips
Renault Ireland lists maximum DC power of 100 kW for Renault 5 and Renault 4, 130 kW for Megane and 150 kW for Scenic. It gives an approximate 15–80% rapid-charge time of 32 minutes for Megane and 37 minutes for Scenic. Renault says most models take around 30–40 minutes for that charge window on a public rapid DC charger. These manufacturer estimates are not guaranteed stop times: charger output, battery temperature and condition, ambient temperature, and starting state of charge can affect power and duration. Renault UK also identifies vehicle version and charging conditions as variables.
For trip planning, compare the relevant charge window and the car’s maximum DC rate rather than treating peak power as a constant. The battery will not necessarily receive its maximum rate throughout a stop, and the cited 15–80% estimates do not describe a full charge.

What changes real-world range?
Renault’s range guidance identifies cold weather, cabin heating, motorway speed, driving style and extra load as factors that can reduce range. It recommends preconditioning the cabin while the car is plugged in, maintaining correct tyre inflation and using Eco mode when appropriate. Renault also advises keeping motorway speed at or below 70 mph as one range-management measure. These are manufacturer tips, not quantified guarantees of a particular range gain.
That makes the practical comparison personal: a driver who mostly makes short urban trips and can charge at home may value the Renault 5’s smaller footprint, while regular long-distance travel may make Scenic’s larger battery option and higher listed DC rate more relevant. Neither WLTP maximum nor peak charging power alone establishes which car will be most convenient for a particular route.
How to choose between the four
- Prioritise compact size: compare Renault 5 and Renault 4; the 4 has the larger Ireland-listed boot, while their market-specific maximum ranges are close.
- Need a family hatchback: consider Megane for its 440 L boot and 130 kW maximum DC specification in Ireland.
- Need the most space or longest listed range: Scenic leads this group in the UK range table and Ireland boot figures.
- Check charging where you park: home charging depends on the car’s AC limit and the installed supply; long-trip convenience depends on compatible public chargers and actual conditions.
- Compare the exact local version: battery availability, homologated range and equipment can differ by market and trim.
Renault’s illustrative charging-cost example
Renault UK’s information page illustrates a full-charge cost of less than £14 for a 60 kWh Megane and less than £20 for an 87 kWh Scenic, using an assumed average electricity rate of 22.36p per kWh. This is Renault’s calculation, not a current universal tariff: household electricity rates, public charging prices, supplier contracts and charging location change the cost.
