Renault’s latest published figures give it 555 hp—not 500—and a provisional €160,000 price, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2027. It offers a very different proposition from the Tesla Model 3 Performance: a scarce, compact, two-seat performance car rather than a five-seat, all-wheel-drive sedan.
What is the Renault 5 Turbo 3E?
The Turbo 3E reinterprets the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 as an electric performance car. Renault says it uses two motors mounted in the rear wheels, driving the car through the rear wheels rather than through an all-wheel-drive system. The original Turbo lineage supplies the name and sporting inspiration; the Turbo 3E is a new electric vehicle, not a return of the old combustion-engine model.
Renault design chief Gilles Vidal described the goal as preserving the originals’ exuberance and racing spirit while adapting the car for electric power and modern aerodynamics. The company’s March 2025 announcement presents it as a personalized, modern interpretation rather than a straightforward replica.
Renault 5 Turbo 3E specifications and claims
Renault’s July 2026 release gives the latest figures below. They are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent road test; Renault’s UK performance page says specifications remain subject to official homologation.

| Specification | Renault 5 Turbo 3E |
|---|---|
| Power | 555 hp |
| Torque | 4,800 Nm |
| Drive | Rear-wheel drive, with two rear in-wheel motors |
| 0–62 mph | Under 3.5 seconds, Renault claim |
| Battery | 70 kWh |
| Electrical architecture | 800 volts |

The headline power figure has changed during the car’s development. Renault’s 2025 announcement used 540 hp; its later 2026 release specifies 555 hp. The later figure is the appropriate one to quote, while recognizing that final homologated specifications may differ.
Renault reports the 15–80% charging time and peak rate as manufacturer claims. Actual charging speed depends on conditions such as the charger and battery state, and the company’s stated range is not yet a finalized homologated figure. Renault’s UK performance page flags specifications as pending official homologation.

How it compares with the Tesla Model 3 Performance
The Tesla is a useful performance reference, but the two cars differ in format, traction, price and availability. Tesla’s live product page lists a five-seat, dual-motor all-wheel-drive sedan. Renault describes a limited-run, rear-wheel-drive Turbo 3E. The acceleration figures also use different intervals, so they are not a controlled head-to-head result.
| Category | Renault 5 Turbo 3E | Tesla Model 3 Performance |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 555 hp (Renault, 2026) | 510 hp (Tesla product page, accessed 8 October 2026) |
| Drive | Rear-wheel drive; two rear in-wheel motors | Dual-motor all-wheel drive |
| Acceleration claim | 0–62 mph in under 3.5 seconds (Renault) | 0–60 mph in 2.9 seconds (Tesla) |
| Range | Over 400 km stated; pending homologation | 309 miles EPA-estimated (Tesla) |
| Seating | Not stated in the cited Renault materials | Five seats |
| Price | Provisional recommended retail price of €160,000 (Renault, July 2026) | Not stated here; see Tesla’s live page for current market pricing |
| Availability | Limited to 1,980 cars; Renault said orders remained open and deliveries were scheduled from 2027 in July 2026 | Not stated in the cited Tesla specification page |
Tesla’s 309-mile range is EPA-estimated; Renault’s figure is stated in kilometres and awaits homologation. Likewise, Tesla’s 0–60 mph claim covers a shorter distance than Renault’s 0–62 mph claim. Neither comparison establishes which car would be quicker in a like-for-like test.

Price, production and delivery timing
Renault’s 15 July 2026 release described €160,000 as the Turbo 3E’s provisional recommended retail price, subject to change when sales open. The same release said production would be limited to 1,980 individually numbered cars, orders remained open at that time, and deliveries were scheduled from 2027. Those are Renault’s stated plans as of that release, not a guarantee of later order status or delivery timing.

An earlier April 2025 Renault reservation announcement gave a provisional €155,000 price for the first 500 priority reservation signatories. That was an earlier, limited reservation offer—not the later €160,000 figure and not evidence that both prices apply to the same buyers or offer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Renault 5 Turbo 3E an alternative to the Model 3 Performance?
It is an alternative only in the broad sense that both are high-performance electric cars. The Turbo 3E’s rear-wheel-drive layout, heritage-focused design, numbered production run and provisional €160,000 price put it in a different category from Tesla’s five-seat AWD sedan. Buyers prioritizing practicality, a stated EPA range and all-wheel drive will find those features in Tesla’s published specification; buyers drawn to Renault’s compact Turbo lineage and limited-run character are looking at a much rarer proposition.
