The Renault 5 Turbo 3E brings the rally-era Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 into the electric age, but it is more than a retro-styled version of the regular Renault 5. Renault describes it as a bespoke-platform performance car, with two rear-mounted in-wheel motors. The company says its production-ready version makes 555 hp and 4,800 Nm; those are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027, according to Renault’s July 2026 update.
What the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is—and what it isn’t
Renault announced the Turbo 3E on 17 March 2025 as an electric “mini-supercar” inspired by the original Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2. It is not simply a high-performance trim of the standard Renault 5 E-Tech: Renault says the Turbo 3E has a custom platform developed for its performance ambitions. The company positions it alongside the Renault 5 E-Tech and Alpine A290, rather than as another version of either city car. Renault’s launch announcement describes the project as a reboot of the earlier cars’ heritage for the electric era.
How it draws on the Turbo 2’s legacy
The connection is both visual and conceptual. Renault points to the exuberant character, innovation and rally performance of the 1980s Turbo models as the foundation for the new car. The Turbo 3E carries forward that competition-minded identity in an electric package, rather than attempting to reproduce the earlier cars’ engineering or driving experience.
Renault’s language about the project is direct: “Renault 5 Turbo 3E embodies the boldness and spirit of innovation that have always defined Renault.” The statement appears in the company’s July 2026 Goodwood release and is attributable to Renault, not to a named executive. Renault’s Goodwood update also describes the production-ready car’s first dynamic public appearance in the UK.

Powertrain and performance figures
For the production-ready version shown at Goodwood in July 2026, Renault lists two rear-mounted in-wheel electric motors, 555 hp and 4,800 Nm of torque. These are manufacturer-stated specifications; they are not results from an independent road or dynamometer test. Renault’s UK product page likewise describes a 555 hp dual electric powertrain. Renault’s April 2025 French reservation announcement said technical specifications could still change before homologation. Readers should therefore treat performance figures as Renault’s published claims, not as a guarantee that every final, market-homologated version will have identical specifications. The French reservation announcement also spelled out the provisional nature of the early buyer terms.

The comparison is about role and engineering intent, not a measured head-to-head. Renault presents the Turbo 3E as a distinct, bespoke-platform car, while the Renault 5 E-Tech and Alpine A290 occupy city-car roles. The company’s March 2025 announcement provides the positioning but does not establish independent comparative performance data.
Production, release timing and reservations
Renault announced a global limited run of 1,980 numbered cars and planned showroom arrival during 2027. Its July 2026 update said orders remained open and deliveries were scheduled from 2027. These are Renault’s announced production and timing plans, not confirmation that delivery dates or allocations are identical in every market. Renault UK also lists the 1,980-car global run on its product page.

What the announced price means for buyers
The only specific price established here is historical and market-specific: on 22 April 2025, Renault announced a provisional starting price of €155,000 including tax in France for the first 500 priority reservations. That amount excluded options, accessories and personalization, and Renault said it could change when sales opened. It is not a current global price. Buyers should check Renault’s reservation information for their own market and date before relying on a figure.
