What is the refreshed 2027 S-Class?
It is an extensive update to the current S-Class generation, not a newly introduced generation. The clearest confirmed changes are at the front and rear. Mercedes-Benz says the grille is approximately 20 percent larger than before, with an illuminated surround and three-dimensional chrome stars. An illuminated standing hood star is optional. The redesigned DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps use a twin-star motif, while the rear lamps incorporate three chrome-framed signature stars. What changes inside and in the car’s software?
Mercedes-Benz USA describes a standard MBUX Superscreen and fourth-generation MBUX. The system includes an MBUX Virtual Assistant, MBUX Navigation based on Google technology, and MBUX Surround Navigation. MB.OS is the vehicle’s software and computing platform; Mercedes-Benz says its connection to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud supports over-the-air updates.

The U.S. release also lists up to 15 airbags and an exterior sensor suite comprising ten cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. These are published equipment descriptions, not independent evaluations of safety performance. The source does not establish that every feature or configuration is offered in every market.
Which powertrains and chassis features are listed?
For the U.S. model, Mercedes-Benz describes six- and eight-cylinder gasoline engines and a plug-in hybrid among the electrified choices. Standard AIRMATIC air suspension and 4.5-degree rear-axle steering are listed, with E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL and 10-degree rear-axle steering as options. The release also names heated front seatbelts and Digital Vent Control as new comfort features. Why is the car associated with Mercedes-Benz’s 140th anniversary?
Mercedes-Benz linked the S-Class premiere to the 140th anniversary of Carl Benz’s 1886 automobile patent. Its “140 Places” campaign sent three S-Class sedans on a journey across six continents. In a July 7, 2026 update, Mercedes-Benz said the route had exceeded 50,000 kilometres and was planned to conclude in Stuttgart in October 2026. The campaign provides context for the car’s anniversary-era appearances, but it does not establish the exact livery or purpose of the celebration wrapper in this sighting. The January 29 premiere announcement covers the anniversary campaign; the July tour update gives its later distance and planned finish.
There is an important distinction between the sighting’s wrapper and the official preview imagery. Mercedes-Benz described the January 20 pre-premiere car as camouflaged, without identifying an anniversary wrap. Its announcement that a special 140th-anniversary logo would appear in brand communications during 2026 does not, by itself, identify the livery seen on this particular car.

What is known about customization and U.S. timing?
Mercedes-Benz USA says MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure offers more than 150 exterior paints and over 400 interior colors. These are program choices stated by the manufacturer; they do not mean every combination is available in every market or configuration.
The U.S. release says production at Sindelfingen would begin in 2026, while the U.S. future-vehicles page describes the model as coming to dealerships “soon.” The reviewed announcements do not establish an exact U.S. on-sale date or price.
