Red Bull’s RB17 is a real, developing two-seat track car—not a road-legal production car. Red Bull Advanced Technologies designed it with Adrian Newey, drawing on Formula 1 engineering. The car was unveiled as a model at Goodwood in July 2024; it made its public running debut there in July 2026. Red Bull’s published specifications promise more than 1,200 hp, but those figures have not been independently verified.
What is the Red Bull RB17?
The RB17 is a limited-run hypercar developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the engineering arm behind the project, with Adrian Newey as designer. It has two seats and is intended for circuit use. Newey described the concept to Formula 1 as a way to distill the team’s Formula 1 knowledge into a high-performance two-seat track car.
The name also has a Formula 1 connection, though the RB17 is not a Grand Prix car. Red Bull never built an RB17 F1 chassis: the team raced a modified RB16 as the RB16B in 2021, then called its 2022 car the RB18. Newey explained the skipped number in Formula 1’s 2024 report. Red Bull later assigned the unused name to this Advanced Technologies project.
When did the RB17 debut?
There are two milestones, and they are easy to confuse. Red Bull unveiled the RB17 as a model at Goodwood in July 2024. It was not yet making public laps. According to RACER’s report of July 15, 2026, the car made its public running debut at Goodwood in July 2026, after appearing as a static model in 2024 and 2025.

Is the RB17 road legal?
No. July 2026 reporting describes the RB17 as strictly track-only and not road legal. It is a customer car planned for private track use, not a road-going hypercar and not a Red Bull racing entry.
Red Bull says it used Le Mans Hypercar regulations as a safety-design reference, including features intended to reduce lift if the car goes sideways. That does not mean the RB17 is built to compete in Le Mans. Red Bull Advanced Technologies technical director Rob Gray told RACER the reference was about adopting a safety standard the company could stand behind, not preparing to race the car.

RACER reported that outside firms had expressed interest in converting RB17s for road use, but Red Bull had no interest in carrying out conversions itself. That is not evidence that a conversion is approved, available, or would make a particular car road legal.
What are the RB17’s power and performance claims?
Red Bull’s July 2024 specification describes a hybrid powertrain combining a naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V10 with a 200 hp electrical drive system. The company lists total output above 1,200 hp. It also publishes a weight below 900 kg, a top speed above 350 km/h, and braking forces of about 5G.
