The REC 901 is not an entire watch made from a Porsche 911. REC says it reclaims metal from a donor car’s exterior for the dial, preserving its surface marks beneath lacquer. The rest of the watch uses conventional watch components. The 901-03 is one specific edition, and its listed specifications, price and stock should not be assumed to apply to other 901 models.
What does “made from a Porsche 911” mean?
REC’s central material claim concerns the dial. The company says it takes exterior metal from a salvaged Porsche 911, strips it to bare metal, then lacquers and seals it. REC says the original surface marks and imperfections remain visible. Its official 901-03 page describes the idea this way: “At the heart of every 901 is a dial made from an original Porsche 911.” That is REC’s brand statement, not an independent material inspection. REC says the donor car is identified through a VIN plaque on the watch and a personalized NFC-enabled storycard. Its original project FAQ says the card includes a documentary about the specific donor car. The claim is therefore narrower than “a watch made from a Porsche.” REC describes reclaimed car metal in the dial, while the case, movement, crystal, strap and other watch components are conventional watch parts. The distinctive automotive connection is the material and the donor-car story, rather than a Porsche-built watch.

How does the 901-03 compare with other REC 901 watches?
“REC 901” names a collection, not one fixed specification sheet. REC’s 2017 launch announcement described the original collection as using an automatic Miyota movement, while the current 901-03 page specifically names the Miyota 9100. Other versions, including the 901-RS and RWB, may differ in dimensions, case treatment, strap, functions, water-resistance rating and donor-car story. For an edition-to-edition comparison, look at the donor-car information and materials included, the appearance and treatment of the dial, movement and functions, case dimensions and weight, water-resistance rating, strap or bracelet, edition size, warranty and current price and availability. A shared 901 name does not establish that any of those details are shared.

Is it an official Porsche watch?
No such relationship is established by the cited material. REC’s original project FAQ says REC Watches and its products are not associated with or supported by Porsche AG or its affiliates. The watch should be understood as a REC product that uses material the company says came from Porsche 911 cars, not as an official Porsche product or collaboration. REC 901 Collection FAQ
REC’s 2017 announcement also says “901” was the originally intended name for the Porsche 911 and attributes the eventual name change to a Peugeot naming-rights claim. What did the 901-03 cost, and is it available?
REC’s 901-03 product page displayed a price of USD 1,895 and a sold-out notice when indexed. Both price and stock can change, so check the current product page or seller before buying. Before purchasing, confirm that a listing is for the exact edition you want and compare its current specifications with REC’s model page. If the donor-car story is part of the appeal, check what provenance materials accompany that specific watch; the brand’s VIN plaque and storycard describe its own presentation system, not independent authentication.
