Stellantis discontinued development of the full-size, battery-only pickup originally called the Ram 1500 REV. The separate gasoline-generator-equipped Ramcharger is still presented by Ram, but it has been renamed the Ram 1500 REV. Ram’s current page lists projected availability in 2026; it does not give a confirmed production, ordering or delivery date.
What changed with the Ram 1500 REV name?
The name now describes a different powertrain from the one Ram announced first. In February 2023, Ram said its first electric pickup would be the Ram 1500 REV, a battery-electric truck. In November 2023, Stellantis separately introduced the Ramcharger, a range-extended electric pickup.

In September 2025, TechCrunch reported Stellantis saying it would discontinue development of a full-size battery-electric pickup as demand for that type of truck slowed in North America. The same report quoted a Stellantis spokesperson saying the REEV-powered pickup was being renamed “Ram 1500 REV (formerly Ramcharger).”

| Was the original REV battery-electric? | Yes. It was planned as a battery-only, full-size pickup. |
| What was the original Ramcharger? | A range-extended electric truck using a battery, electric drive and an onboard gasoline engine-generator. |
| What happened to the battery-electric truck? | Stellantis said development of the full-size BEV pickup was discontinued. |
| What is called Ram 1500 REV now? | The range-extended pickup formerly announced as Ramcharger. |
| Is the truck available to order? | Not on the evidence available here. Ram lists only “Projected availability 2026.” |
Did Ram cancel the 1500 REV?
It canceled development of the originally planned full-size battery-electric version, not the entire idea of an electrified Ram 1500. Stellantis’ corporate statement, quoted by TechCrunch on September 12, 2025, said: “As demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup.”

- Revell Model Kit #14561, Skill Level 5, Contains 117-Parts, Recommended for ages 13 and up
- Detailed HEMI V-8 engine.
- Separate reverse side scoops.
- Tampo printed Red Line Tires.
- Molded in white, transparent red and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires. Paint and glue required(not included).
That wording matters: it supports discontinuing the planned battery-electric pickup, but it does not support saying Ram has abandoned all electric or electrified 1500 models. The range-extended truck remains in Ram’s current product presentation under the REV name.
Is the new Ram REV fully electric or a hybrid?
The renamed truck is electric-drive with a range extender, rather than a battery-only EV. Its announced architecture uses a 92-kWh battery and electric drive modules to turn the wheels. A 3.6-liter V-6 runs a 130-kW generator to supply electricity when needed; Stellantis said there is no direct mechanical path from the engine to the wheels. In practical terms, the truck drives through electric motors while carrying a gasoline engine-generator for additional energy and range.

What the two original plans promised
The battery-electric REV announced in 2023
In April 2023, Stellantis unveiled the planned all-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV with a standard 168-kWh battery targeting up to 350 miles of range. An optional 229-kWh pack was targeted at up to 500 miles. The company also targeted towing of up to 14,000 pounds and payload of up to 2,700 pounds. Those numbers belong to the discontinued battery-electric configuration and should not be treated as specifications for the renamed range-extended truck.

“We believe in bringing the right range of powertrain solutions to our customers, and the Ram 1500 REV will be the first in a lineup of electrified solutions that will add to our current award-winning truck lineup,” said Mike Koval Jr., then Ram brand CEO, on April 5, 2023. The range-extended Ramcharger announced in 2023
The separate Ramcharger plan used the 92-kWh battery and 130-kW generator described above. Stellantis targeted up to 690 miles of total range, 663 horsepower and towing of up to 14,000 pounds. These were manufacturer targets for the announced Ramcharger program, not independent measurements or confirmed production results.

Why did the launch order change?
On December 18, 2024, Stellantis said the range-extended Ramcharger would launch before the battery-electric REV. The company cited “overwhelming consumer interest,” a competitive advantage in the technology and slower demand for half-ton battery-electric pickups. At that point, it expected U.S. Ramcharger orders in the first half of 2025 and the battery-electric REV in 2026.
Those dates are no longer a reliable schedule. The later September 2025 decision to discontinue the full-size BEV development superseded the planned sequence, while Ram’s current page gives the range-extended 1500 REV only a projected 2026 availability label.

When will the Ram 1500 REV be available?
Ram’s current official product page projects availability in 2026. The reviewed material does not establish a firm production start, U.S. order-opening date, price, final range, final towing rating or customer-delivery date. Earlier references to 2024, the first half of 2025 or 2026 for the canceled battery-electric version were plans made before the product strategy changed and should not be read as a current timetable.
Quick Recap
What buyers should—and should not—assume
- Do assume: the current Ram 1500 REV label refers to the range-extended electric pickup formerly called Ramcharger.
- Do not assume: the original 350-mile and 500-mile battery-electric range targets apply to this truck.
- Do not assume: the 690-mile, 663-horsepower and 14,000-pound towing targets are certified production specifications.
- Do not assume: “projected availability 2026” means orders are open or deliveries are scheduled.
