How the Ramcharger’s gas generator works
In the November 2023 announcement, Stellantis described a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 connected to a 130-kW onboard generator. The engine’s mechanical output is converted into electrical power, which can charge the battery or supply the high-voltage system and electric drive modules. The drive modules propel the truck.
Stellantis said there is no direct mechanical path from the V6 to the wheels. In other words, the engine is there to generate electricity, not to function as a conventional engine mechanically driving the truck. Ram’s current product page also describes a 92-kWh battery paired with a 130-kW generator. Ram’s current Ram 1500 REV page uses the range-extended name for this truck.
Is it an electric truck or a hybrid?
The announced Ramcharger is best described as a range-extended electric truck: electric drive modules provide propulsion, while a gasoline engine-generator can provide electricity. It uses both gasoline and electricity, so it is not a battery-only vehicle; but its announced architecture differs from a conventional hybrid in which an engine can mechanically drive the wheels. Stellantis’s launch description explicitly said the V6 has no direct mechanical connection to the wheels. Stellantis’s November 2023 announcement explains the original design.

What range and performance did Ram announce?
Stellantis presented the figures below in November 2023 as targets or announced capabilities for the Ram 1500 Ramcharger—not as independent test results. Ram’s current page continues to display a manufacturer-estimated range of up to 690 miles. The sources cited here do not establish final production specifications or independently tested results.

These figures are useful for understanding Ram’s announced aims, but they should not be treated as verified production ratings. A buyer comparing trucks should distinguish the Ramcharger’s total-range claim from electric-only range and compare towing or payload only when specifications and test conditions are established on a like-for-like basis.

How it charges and what Ram says about fast charging
Ram’s current product page says the truck is compatible with Level 1 charging, available Level 2 charging at 240 volts, and Level 3 charging at 400 volts. Ram also says 400-volt DC fast charging at up to 145 kW can add up to 50 miles of all-electric range in 10 minutes. That is the manufacturer’s published claim, not an independent charging test. Ram’s product page is the source for these current charging details.
What Ram announced about power export
Stellantis’s 2023 announcement described bidirectional vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home charging, as well as an in-bed power panel rated up to 7.2 kW. Those are launch-announcement details; the current product page reviewed here does not confirm them as final production features. Check a production specification for confirmation before relying on them when choosing a truck or planning to power equipment or a home.

Why the name and model year can be confusing
Ram introduced the range-extended pickup in November 2023 as the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger. In December 2024, Stellantis said it had changed its planned launch order, placing the range-extended truck ahead of the battery-electric Ram 1500 REV. Ram’s current page now calls the range-extended vehicle the Ram 1500 REV and labels its availability as projected for 2026. This is the status shown on that page, not confirmation that the truck is currently for sale. Stellantis’s December 2024 announcement describes the planned launch-order change.

Tim Kuniskis, identified as Ram brand CEO at Stellantis in the 2023 announcement, called the truck “the pinnacle of the light-duty pickup truck segment and the ultimate electric truck,” describing it as having “unlimited battery-electric range.” Those are promotional statements, not independently verified range or performance results. The concrete distinction in the launch description is the architecture: electric drive modules propel the truck, and the gasoline V6 powers a generator.
