Check the model number on the label on the back of your battery: RP-1304, RAD-S1304Y, or HL-RP-S1304. If it matches, stop using and remove the battery, then follow local hazardous-waste disposal guidance. The warning is dated November 24, 2025, and is a product safety warning—not a voluntary recall.
Which Rad Power Bikes batteries are covered?
The CPSC warning identifies batteries by model number, not solely by the e-bike they came with. Look for the label on the back or rear of the battery and compare its model number with the three listed below. The warning does not provide serial-number ranges or production-revision details.

CPSC says the named batteries were also sold as replacement batteries. If your bike model appears in the table but the battery label does not show one of these numbers, do not assume the battery is included based on the bike name alone. Conversely, check a replacement battery even if you no longer have the bike it originally came with.
How serious is the fire risk?
CPSC says the batteries can unexpectedly ignite and explode, particularly if the battery or its harness has been exposed to water and debris. Some reported fires occurred while batteries were not charging and the products were unused or in storage, so unplugging a battery is not enough to make a named battery safe to keep using or storing.

As of its November 24, 2025 warning, CPSC reported 31 reports of fire. Twelve of those reports involved property damage totaling approximately $734,500. These are incident reports known to the agency, not a calculated likelihood of failure or a per-battery risk rate.
What should owners do with a named battery?
- Stop using it and remove it from the e-bike. Do not charge or ride with a battery whose label matches one of the listed model numbers.
- Contact your local household hazardous-waste collection center before taking it there. Ask whether it accepts this type of e-bike battery and how it must be transported or handed in.
- If the center will not accept it, contact your municipality for disposal instructions. Acceptance procedures vary locally; follow the directions you receive rather than choosing a general battery drop-off point.
- Do not place it in household trash, curbside or general recycling, or ordinary battery-recycling boxes at stores or home-improvement retailers.
- Do not sell or give the battery away. CPSC states: “Do not sell or give away these hazardous batteries.”
Follow the warning’s disposal direction even if the battery appears intact. If the battery is damaged or has signs of water ingress or corrosion, do not use it; seek handling guidance from your municipality.

What do CPSC and Rad Power Bikes say?
CPSC says Rad Power Bikes refused to agree to an acceptable recall. The agency also says the company told it that, given its financial situation, it could not provide replacement batteries or refunds to all consumers. CPSC’s instruction is to stop using the named batteries and dispose of them through local hazardous-waste procedures.
In comments reproduced in the CPSC notice at Rad’s request, the company said: “Rad’s Safe Shield batteries and semi-integrated batteries are not subject to the agency’s statement.” Rad also said its batteries passed third-party retests and advised riders to stop using batteries showing damage, water ingress, or corrosion. Those are Rad’s statements, not CPSC’s finding; for coverage, check the battery model number against the three models named in the warning.
