The Toyota RAV4 narrowly outsold the Honda CR-V in the U.S. mainstream compact-crossover class during Q3 2024: 102,036 sales to 101,960. The ranking below is a quarter-only comparison of mainstream C-segment crossovers—not a comprehensive leaderboard across every SUV size, luxury models, or electric SUVs.
Q3 2024 U.S. compact-crossover ranking
These figures are quarterly U.S. sales for July through September 2024. Model rankings and year-over-year changes are reported by GM Authority for the mainstream C-segment crossover class.

What the ranking shows
A near tie at the top
The RAV4 finished just 76 sales ahead of the CR-V in the reported quarter. The two models were in a different volume tier from the third-place Tucson, whose 53,801 sales were roughly half the RAV4’s quarterly total.
Mixed year-over-year results
The RAV4 recorded the largest increase among these ten, up 34.40% from Q3 2023. The CR-V, Tucson, Sportage, and Bronco Sport also posted gains. The Rogue had the largest decline in this group, down 24.23%; the Equinox fell 23.24%.

Why this is not a ranking of every SUV
“Best-selling SUVs” can mean a quarter-only ranking across all SUV classes, but the available direct nationwide quarterly table here covers mainstream compact crossovers. It should not be read as ranking subcompact, midsize, full-size, luxury, and electric SUVs alongside these models.
A separate Kelley Blue Book list ranks all vehicle types by cumulative U.S. sales through September 2024, rather than Q3-only SUV sales. In that January–September list, the RAV4 ranked third overall at 350,331 units, the CR-V fourth at 298,164, the Tesla Model Y fifth at 284,831, and the Nissan Rogue ninth at 189,516. Geography and measurement also matter. The California Auto Outlook report through September measures California retail registrations and identifies the RAV4 as that state’s compact-SUV leader. State registration counts are not national quarterly sales, so they should not be mixed into this leaderboard.
