The quickest 2024 four-cylinder SUV in the figures available here is the Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid, which Car and Driver recorded at 4.5 seconds to 60 mph. The list below covers six configurations with supported acceleration figures—not a definitive ten-place ranking. Results come from different tests and one manufacturer estimate, so they are useful reference points, not a same-track comparison.
Quickest 2024 four-cylinder SUVs with supported 0–60 figures
Times are listed from quickest to slowest for readability, but they should not be treated as directly comparable rankings. The test sources, vehicle configurations, and measurement conditions differ. The Grand Highlander figure is Toyota’s estimate rather than an independent test result.
| Configuration | Four-cylinder powertrain | 0–60 mph | Source and result type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid | Plug-in hybrid; 362 combined horsepower | 4.5 seconds | Car and Driver; instrumented test |
| Ford Escape 2.0T | 250-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder | 5.7 seconds | Car and Driver; test result |
| Genesis GV70 2.5T | 300-hp four-cylinder | 6.0 seconds | Edmunds; 2023 comparison of 2024 configurations. MotorTrend also reports 6.0 seconds. |
| Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 AWD | 255-hp four-cylinder | 6.1 seconds | Edmunds; tested all-wheel-drive example in its 2023 comparison of 2024 configurations |
| Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX | Hybrid MAX; 362 horsepower | 6.3 seconds | Toyota USA Newsroom; manufacturer estimate, announced in 2023 |
| Kia Sorento turbo-four | Turbocharged four-cylinder; test configuration | 6.5 seconds | Consumer Reports; 2024 road test |
What the times tell you—and what they do not
The Q5’s 4.5-second result belongs to its plug-in hybrid powertrain, not every Q5. Car and Driver identifies the standard Q5 40 as a 201-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, but the cited 4.5-second time is for the 362-hp plug-in hybrid configuration. Hybrid assistance is part of what makes that result possible.
The Escape result is likewise specific: 5.7 seconds applies to the 250-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four, not the base three-cylinder Escape. The GV70 figure is for the 300-hp 2.5T. Edmunds reports 6.0 seconds, and MotorTrend reports the same time for the four-cylinder model.

For the GLC, Edmunds’ 6.1-second result is for a tested GLC 300 with all-wheel drive. Toyota’s Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX entry is different in kind: 6.3 seconds is the manufacturer’s published estimate, not a track test in the cited announcement. Consumer Reports’ 6.5-second figure applies to its turbo-four Sorento test model.

The available figures establish six quick configurations, but they do not establish ten comparable entries. A defensible top ten needs verified 0–60 times tied to each exact four-cylinder engine and configuration; adding models without those details would make the order look more certain than the evidence allows.

Car and Driver’s 2024 compact SUV comparison includes the Escape, Honda CR-V, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-50, Nissan Rogue, Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Dodge Hornet, but the cited comparison does not provide a complete set of comparable four-cylinder acceleration results for those candidates. It reports 8.0 seconds for its tested Rogue and 8.3 seconds for its tested RAV4; the Rogue time should not be attributed to a four-cylinder configuration without confirming its engine.
Car and Driver identifies the RAV4’s 203-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder and reports 8.3 seconds for a TRD Off-Road example. That test result describes that example, not every 2024 RAV4. Toyota separately lists Grand Highlander 0–60 estimates of 7.5 seconds for gas front-wheel drive and 7.8 seconds for the 245-hp hybrid all-wheel-drive configuration; neither is the Hybrid MAX figure in the table.

How to compare SUV 0–60 times
- Check the exact powertrain. A turbo-four, conventional hybrid, and plug-in hybrid can produce very different acceleration even within one model line.
- Keep the drivetrain and trim attached to the result. An AWD test vehicle or a specific off-road trim is not a universal result for that SUV.
- Separate estimates from tests. Manufacturer estimates and independently measured times are different kinds of evidence.
- Consider size and use, not just acceleration. A quicker published 0–60 time alone does not establish better value, handling, fuel economy, or suitability for a particular buyer.
