Edmunds’ July 2026 ranking puts the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT first, with a tested 0–60 mph time of 3.2 seconds. The other nine SUVs in its list reached 60 in 3.32 to 3.59 seconds. Those are acceleration results, not top-speed figures—and the list mixes older test vehicles with newer ones, so it is not a guide to ten SUVs currently available new.
“Sleeper” is a subjective label, and the available results do not establish that every SUV here can outrun most sports cars. They do show how quickly these practical-looking vehicles can accelerate. Edmunds explains that its ranking is based on tested 0–60 mph acceleration, not a head-to-head comparison with a defined set of sports cars.
What “fast” means in this ranking
Edmunds ranks these SUVs by how quickly they accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. That is different from top speed: a vehicle can launch quickly without having the highest maximum speed, and a top-speed claim does not tell you how fast it reaches 60. Edmunds makes this distinction in its July 13, 2026 ranking.
The numbers below are Edmunds’ reported results for the specific model years listed. They are not directly interchangeable with a manufacturer’s advertised figure or a result from another vehicle generation, tire setup, or test method.

Why these results do not make a current-model shopping list
The table includes tested vehicles from 2018 through 2025, along with some commentary about later models. Several named performance trims have been discontinued, and a newer model with a similar name may have a different engine or performance specification. For example, the 2018 GLC 63 S Coupe is the older V8 version, while the newer GLC 63 discussed by Edmunds uses four cylinders.

That matters when comparing claims. Edmunds’ 3.52-second result is for a tested 2020 BMW X5 M Competition, whereas BMW USA lists a 3.7-second 0–60 mph figure for the 2026 X5 M Competition. The figures describe different model years and sources; one does not invalidate the other.
What the current BMW X5 M figures say
BMW USA lists the 2026 X5 M Competition with 617 horsepower and a manufacturer-reported 0–60 mph time of 3.7 seconds. BMW gives a maximum speed of 155 mph, or 177 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package. These are BMW specifications, not Edmunds test results. The X5 M has an M TwinPower Turbo V8, M xDrive, adaptive M suspension, and an 8-speed M Steptronic Sport transmission. BMW’s model page lists 33.9 cubic feet of luggage space, expanding to 72.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded; it also says third-row seating and a trailer tow hitch are unavailable.

BMW cautions that actual acceleration can vary with vehicle specification, road and environmental conditions, testing procedures, and driving style. It says its figures are for comparison and that verification should not be attempted on public roads. A manufacturer figure and a publication’s track test are best treated as separate reference points, not promises of what every driver will achieve.

These SUVs combine SUV bodies and some degree of everyday utility with acceleration that can feel sports-car-like. But “sleeper” depends on what a reader expects, and the cited ranking does not compare the SUVs with a defined set of sports cars. It also does not show that every entry beats most sports cars in acceleration, handling, or top speed.

Practicality differs across the list, too. Edmunds flags limited off-road and towing usefulness for the Cayenne Turbo GT and a stiff ride for the X6 M Competition. The X5 M offers more cargo room than the X6 M, according to Edmunds, while BMW’s current specifications give the X5 M’s luggage capacity and note the lack of a tow hitch. A quick 0–60 time alone does not capture ride comfort, cargo needs, towing capability, or how a vehicle behaves beyond a straight-line launch.
