Queensland Police have launched Ride with Me, a route-based motorcycle safety video series for Motorcycle Awareness Month, with practical advice filmed on familiar Southeast Queensland roads. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said 63 motorcyclists died on Queensland roads between 1 January and 1 October 2026—15 more than during the same period in 2025. Those figures were reported in the QPS announcement dated 6 October 2026, not as a full-year total.
What is the Ride with Me series?
Announced on 6 October 2026 by QPS with support from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Ride with Me applies safety advice to popular Southeast Queensland riding routes. The release says police officers ride the routes and point out crash hotspots, common hazards and practical ways to respond. Acting Superintendent Gareth Bosley of the QPS Road Policing Group described the aim this way: “The videos feature police officers riding popular routes and sharing practical safety advice, giving riders a firsthand look at common hazards, high-risk sections of road and simple techniques that can help keep them safe.”
The routes named in the announcement include Mount Mee, Mount Nebo and Mount Tamborine, as well as connecting roads around Mount Glorious and Samford. The release says the videos are available on the QPS YouTube channel.
The episode count needs checking
The release calls this a nine-video series but lists eight titles: Series Introduction; Mount Nebo; Mount Nebo to Mount Glorious; Mount Glorious to Mount Dundas; Mount Glorious to Samford; Mount Mee; Mount Tamborine; Group rides; and High-risk riders. Because the stated total and listed titles do not match, check the QPS playlist for the current lineup rather than treating either count as definitive.

What safety lessons does the campaign emphasize?
The announcement highlights riding to conditions and ability, managing speed, staying visible, and avoiding impairment and fatigue. Those are broad principles; the route videos are intended to show how hazards and decisions vary from one road section to another. Bosley said: “You can’t control what’s around the next bend, but you can control how prepared you are for it.”
Leave room and preserve a clear view
The Queensland Motorcycle Riders’ Guide advises riders to maintain concentration and following space, and to choose road positions that improve both visibility and their view ahead. These choices help preserve room to respond if a hazard appears. The guide’s page was last updated on 24 August 2017, so consult current Queensland rules for legal requirements.

Check the motorcycle before setting off
The guide recommends checking registration, lights, brakes, steering, suspension, horn, tyre pressure and tread, and the chain or drive-belt guard before a ride. Wear protective, visible gear
Queensland Government guidance identifies a compliant helmet as the most important protective item and recommends protective clothing, gloves, eye protection, boots and conspicuous clothing. Riders and passengers must wear a helmet meeting the standards listed on the government page. That guidance was last updated on 25 August 2021; check the current motorcycle safety gear requirements before buying equipment or relying on a particular standard.

Why QPS says the campaign matters
In its 6 October 2026 announcement, QPS said motorcycles account for around one in every 20 registered vehicles in Queensland, while almost one in every four Queensland road deaths are motorcyclists. The release presents these as an overrepresentation comparison; it does not establish that both shares use the same measurement period. TMR’s motorcycle safety overview explains that riders are more exposed to injury than vehicle occupants and points to the state’s rider guidance.
The fatality and proportional figures here are those reported in the QPS announcement, reproduced by The National Tribune as a public release. They should not be read as independently verified statistics or as evidence that the video series has changed crash outcomes.

How riders can use the videos
Treat the series as an educational aid, not a substitute for rider training, preparation or checking current road conditions. A useful way to watch is to pause at a hazard or high-risk section and consider what you would do before reaching it: how much following space you would leave, whether your position gives you a clear view, and what speed suits your ability and the conditions. Conditions can change after a video is made, so check current warnings and route information before setting out.
