Punjab’s E-Taxi Scheme is a government-backed pilot initially planned for Lahore, not an established province-wide taxi network. The Government of Punjab’s project page describes 1,100 electric vehicles, five-year interest-free installments, and allocations for fleet owners and individual drivers. Its published details do not establish current application status, full eligibility rules, or whether charging stations are operational.
What is the Punjab E-Taxi Scheme?
It is a Punjab government initiative to put electric vehicles into taxi service through subsidized financing. The official project page describes the first project as a Lahore pilot involving 1,100 vehicles. That planned fleet size should not be read as confirmation that all 1,100 vehicles have been delivered or are already carrying passengers.
Punjab’s official page says the project has a Rs 3.5 billion subsidy. Dawn reported Rs 4 billion in February 2026, so the published figures conflict; the amount should be confirmed against current scheme documents rather than treated as a settled total. Government of Punjab project page; Dawn, February 27, 2026.
How many vehicles are allocated, and to whom?
The official project page divides the 1,100-vehicle pilot into fleet-owner and individual allocations:
#1 Best Overall
| Applicant group | Vehicles | Published allocation detail |
|---|---|---|
| Fleet owners | 1,000 | Minimum 10 vehicles per fleet owner |
| Individuals | 100 | 70 allocated to men and 30 to women |
Radio Pakistan’s September 17, 2025 report also described 1,000 corporate-sector vehicles and 100 individual vehicles, including 30 reserved for women. In its February 26, 2026 launch report, Radio Pakistan described a 30% women’s quota. The official project page makes the denominator explicit: 30 of the 100 individual vehicles. The sources do not establish that 30% of all 1,100 vehicles are reserved for women. Government of Punjab project page; Radio Pakistan, September 17, 2025; Radio Pakistan, February 26, 2026.
What financing does the government describe?
The official project page describes five-year interest-free installments, a government equity contribution, and free vehicle registration. It does not provide enough detail on that page to establish the amount of an applicant’s contribution or a monthly payment for every vehicle. Those figures may depend on the vehicle and scheme terms; check the current payment schedule on the official project page and linked E-Taxi portal before making a financial decision.

Why do reports give different launch dates?
The dates describe separate milestones rather than necessarily conflicting accounts of one event:
- July 16, 2025: Radio Pakistan reported that the provincial government had devised a plan for 1,100 electric vehicles on interest-free loans and installments. This was a plan-stage announcement. Radio Pakistan, July 16, 2025.
- September 17, 2025: Radio Pakistan reported that the government had officially launched the e-taxi scheme and described its vehicle allocation. Radio Pakistan, September 17, 2025.
- February 26, 2026: Radio Pakistan reported the chief minister’s public launch ceremony. Dawn reported Maryam Nawaz calling it the first provincial e-taxi scheme and part of efforts to build an e-mobility ecosystem. Radio Pakistan, February 26, 2026; Dawn, February 26, 2026.
- February 27, 2026: Associated Press of Pakistan reported that keys were distributed to successful women applicants. Associated Press of Pakistan, February 27, 2026.
“Pakistan’s first” is the framing used by the Punjab government and launch coverage; it is safest to attribute the superlative rather than present it as an independently established national comparison.

Who can apply, and are applications open?
The published project details establish allocations for fleet owners and individuals, including the 10-vehicle minimum for a fleet owner. They do not establish complete eligibility criteria or current application status. Check the live government scheme portal for the current rules, application availability, approved models, and payment schedule before applying. Do not assume an application window is open based only on launch coverage. Government of Punjab project page.
Are the cars, charging stations, and ride-hailing services ready?
The official page says charging stations are “being set up at key locations,” which indicates planned or in-progress infrastructure, not a verified list of operating stations. It directs readers to the E-Taxi site for company and model information, FAQs, and monthly payment schedules. Launch reporting names InDrive and Yango, but the available reporting does not establish current driver onboarding terms or confirm how the platforms are participating. Verify station locations and platform arrangements before relying on them for daily operations. Government of Punjab project page; Dawn, February 27, 2026.

What should a prospective driver or fleet owner verify?
- Whether applications are currently open and which eligibility rules apply to the applicant category.
- The approved vehicle model, specifications, and the current monthly payment schedule.
- The required equity contribution and all financing conditions in the live scheme documents.
- Which charging points are operating, where they are, and whether access suits the intended routes.
- How vehicle registration and ride-hailing platform onboarding work in practice.
The government describes the scheme’s financing and allocations, but these operational details should be checked on the live official portal rather than inferred from the pilot announcement.
