Pulsar 125 or Xtreme 125R? How to Choose the Right 125cc Bike in India

The Hero Xtreme 125R and Bajaj Pulsar 125 are close 125cc rivals, but their published figures are not directly aligned. Compare exact variants, braking systems, dated local quotes and a test ride before choosing.

Neither bike can be declared a universal winner from the available manufacturer information. The Hero Xtreme 125R has a clearly presented range of braking variants and published specifications, while Bajaj’s August 2026 Pulsar 125 update introduces newer equipment but conflicts with Bajaj’s own product and price pages on engine output and price. Your better choice depends on the exact model year and variant, the braking system, a same-city quotation and your own test ride.

This comparison uses Delhi ex-showroom figures where the manufacturers specify Delhi. Ex-showroom prices exclude registration, road tax, insurance and other on-road charges. Confirm every figure with a dealer before paying a booking amount.

Quick verdict: which one should you buy?

Choose the Hero Xtreme 125R if you want a specification sheet that currently identifies four variants, including versions with integrated braking (IBS), single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS, and you prefer its published 10-litre-tank, 790 mm-seat and 136 kg-kerb-weight package. Choose the Bajaj Pulsar 125 if the specific 2026 retail unit you inspect is the one with the equipment you want, such as the 5-inch TFT, Google Maps navigation or Crawl Tech described in Bajaj’s August 2026 launch material, and its confirmed quote fits your budget.

That is a buying framework, not a road-test verdict. No neutral, instrumented head-to-head test was identified for this comparison, so acceleration, real-world fuel economy, comfort, handling, reliability and service experience cannot be ranked responsibly. A short ride on both motorcycles, with the exact variants you would purchase, is essential.

At-a-glance specifications from the manufacturers

The numbers below are not one perfectly matched laboratory dataset. They come from different official pages and, in Bajaj’s case, from documents that disagree. Treat the source and date as part of each specification.

Item Hero Xtreme 125R Bajaj Pulsar 125 How to read it
Engine displacement 124.7 cc (Hero product page, accessed 2026) 124.58 cc in Bajaj’s August 2026 launch release; 124.4 cc on the price page; 124.6 cc on the product page All are in the same 125 cc class, but do not merge the Bajaj figures into one “official” number.
Maximum power 11.4 bhp at 8,250 rpm 12 PS at 8,000 rpm in the August 2026 release; 11.8 PS at 8,500 rpm on the price page; 9.5 PS on the product page Units and test conditions are not explained identically. Compare only figures from the same document.
Peak torque 10.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm 11 Nm at 6,000 rpm in the August 2026 release; 10.8 Nm at 6,500 rpm on the price page; 9.7 Nm on the product page The conflicting Bajaj values require dealer confirmation of the current model year.
Manufacturer fuel-economy claim 63 km/l WMTC-BS VI Not stated consistently in the supplied Bajaj material Hero’s number is a WMTC manufacturer figure, not an independently measured commuting result.
Seat height 790 mm 795 mm in the 2026 brochure A 5 mm difference is useful for short-listing, but leg shape and seat width matter more in a test sit.
Ground clearance 180 mm 165 mm in the 2026 brochure Published figures suggest different clearance priorities; verify the exact variant.
Fuel tank 10 litres 15 litres in the 2026 brochure Tank size is not the same as range. Actual range depends on riding and fuel use.
Kerb/curb weight 136 kg 144–146 kg in the 2026 brochure Bajaj’s stated range may vary by equipment; ask which figure applies to your variant.
Suspension and equipment highlighted by the makers Monoshock, ride modes, wide rear tyre and panic-brake alert Monoshock, 5-inch TFT, Google Maps navigation and Crawl Tech in the August 2026 release Feature availability can be variant-specific; inspect the actual motorcycle.

Why Bajaj’s published figures need special care

Bajaj’s documents do not describe one consistent specification and price. The August 2026 launch release identifies an updated Pulsar 125 with a 124.58 cc engine, 12 PS at 8,000 rpm and 11 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Bajaj’s price page instead lists 124.4 cc, 11.8 PS at 8,500 rpm, 10.8 Nm at 6,500 rpm and a starting price of ₹92,341. The product page lists ₹1,04,318 as a starting price, 124.6 cc, 9.5 PS and 9.7 Nm.

These could reflect different model years, trims, regional catalog updates or page-maintenance timing, but the supplied documents do not explain the discrepancy. Do not quote the highest power figure, lowest price or newest feature list as though all belong to one motorcycle. Ask a Bajaj dealer to identify the model year, exact variant code, braking hardware and invoice price for the stock available in your city.

Hero Xtreme 125R: variants, braking and published price

Four braking configurations are not interchangeable

Hero’s current Xtreme 125R page lists four variants and identifies three braking approaches across the range: IBS, single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS. The safety equipment therefore changes with the trim. An entry-price Xtreme is not an equivalent comparison to a dual-channel ABS version simply because both carry the same model name.

Before comparing prices, look at the front and rear brake specification on the quotation and motorcycle. Confirm whether the bike has IBS or ABS, whether ABS is single- or dual-channel, and whether the listed equipment is standard or an optional accessory. If two dealers use different abbreviations, request the manufacturer variant name in writing.

Hero’s Delhi ex-showroom range

Hero lists Delhi ex-showroom prices from ₹91,500 to ₹1,09,550. The supplied material does not map each of those four prices to a named variant, so it would be misleading to assign a specific amount to IBS, single-channel ABS or dual-channel ABS without a dated quotation. Hero also notes that city, road tax, registration, insurance and accessories can change the final amount.

Bajaj Pulsar 125: what the 2026 update adds

Features highlighted in the August 2026 release

Bajaj’s August 2026 release describes a substantially updated Pulsar 125 and calls out a 5-inch TFT console, Google Maps navigation, Crawl Tech and monoshock suspension. Those are meaningful reasons to inspect the updated motorcycle, particularly if connected navigation and a modern display matter to you.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The release does not, by itself, establish that every Pulsar 125 sold under the current name has every listed feature. Check the instrument cluster, phone-pairing process, navigation functionality and suspension on the exact unit. Ask whether a phone, data connection or separate application is required, and whether those requirements create ongoing costs; the supplied material does not state them.

Bajaj’s brochure braking information

The 2026 brochure lists CBS and disc/drum hardware, but the retrieved launch release and product materials do not settle the braking equipment of every current variant. That uncertainty is important when comparing the Pulsar with an Xtreme 125R whose page explicitly separates IBS and ABS versions.

Inspect both wheels and the warning labels, then request the variant’s official equipment sheet. Do not infer ABS from a disc brake alone: a disc can be fitted without ABS, and the presence of a disc does not identify whether the system is single- or dual-channel.

Bajaj price and specification conflict

Bajaj source Price shown Displacement Power Torque
August 2026 launch release ₹92,900 introductory starting price 124.58 cc 12 PS at 8,000 rpm 11 Nm at 6,000 rpm
Current price page ₹92,341 starting price 124.4 cc 11.8 PS at 8,500 rpm 10.8 Nm at 6,500 rpm
Current product page ₹1,04,318 starting price 124.6 cc 9.5 PS 9.7 Nm

The ₹92,900 figure is explicitly described as an introductory starting price, so it may not be the amount available when you shop. The ₹92,341 and ₹1,04,318 figures appear on different Bajaj pages and are not directly reconciled. Treat all three as page-specific claims, not as a single price ladder. Get a written, same-city quote that states ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, taxes, accessories and any discount separately.

Dimensions and everyday practicality

Seat reach and rider fit

The Xtreme 125R’s published 790 mm seat height is 5 mm lower than the 795 mm listed in Bajaj’s 2026 brochure. That small difference may help a shorter rider, but seat width, foam shape, riding posture and footwear can change how easily both feet reach the ground. Sit on each bike with the bars straight, place both feet down, and repeat the test while backing out of a parking space.

Speed breakers and rough roads

Hero lists 180 mm of ground clearance; Bajaj’s brochure lists 165 mm. On paper, the Hero offers 15 mm more clearance. Clearance depends on load, tyre pressure, suspension sag and the shape of a speed breaker, so use the figures to decide what to inspect rather than to guarantee immunity from scraping. Ride slowly over a familiar bump during the test ride and listen for contact.

Fuel stops and carrying weight

The brochure’s 15-litre Pulsar tank is larger than the Xtreme’s listed 10-litre tank. A larger tank can reduce refuelling frequency, but it also adds fuel weight when full. Do not convert tank capacity directly into range: Hero’s 63 km/l is a WMTC claim, and Bajaj’s supplied pages do not provide a consistently stated comparable economy figure. Record your own fuel consumption only after several normal fill-to-fill cycles.

Moving and parking the motorcycle

Hero lists 136 kg, while the Bajaj brochure gives 144–146 kg. The Pulsar may therefore feel heavier when you reverse it, push it onto a centre stand or manoeuvre in a tight space, but the exact equipment level matters. Test both bikes with the engine off. A showroom floor can hide the difference that becomes obvious on a sloped driveway.

Engine figures: how to compare them without being misled

Both motorcycles sit close to the nominal 125 cc class, but the published units differ: Hero quotes bhp, while Bajaj’s release and price page quote PS. BHP and PS are similar power units but should not be treated as identical test results without knowing the measurement standard. More importantly, the figures come from different pages and rpm points.

Hero’s 11.4 bhp at 8,250 rpm and 10.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm are one manufacturer presentation. Bajaj’s August release states 12 PS at 8,000 rpm and 11 Nm at 6,000 rpm; its price page states 11.8 PS at 8,500 rpm and 10.8 Nm at 6,500 rpm; its product page states 9.5 PS and 9.7 Nm without the same rpm detail in the supplied material. These numbers cannot establish which bike accelerates faster.

During a test ride, evaluate the behaviours that matter to you: smooth clutch take-up, low-speed response in traffic, vibration at your normal cruising speed, ease of overtaking and gear-shift feel. Record the route and conditions if you compare notes later. Do not describe your impression as an independently measured performance result.

Features and equipment to check in person

Hero Xtreme 125R checklist

  • Identify whether the bike is IBS, single-channel ABS or dual-channel ABS.
  • Confirm the ride-mode controls and what each mode changes.
  • Check operation of the panic-brake alert and the wide rear tyre listed by Hero.
  • Inspect the monoshock adjustment or specification, if any, on the quoted trim.
  • Verify the display, switchgear, lighting and connectivity features on the actual motorcycle rather than relying on a generic webpage.

Bajaj Pulsar 125 checklist

  • Confirm whether the motorcycle is the August 2026 updated version or an earlier stock unit.
  • Check that the 5-inch TFT is fitted and ask what functions are available without a paired phone.
  • Demonstrate Google Maps navigation and clarify phone, application and data requirements.
  • Ask the dealer to demonstrate Crawl Tech and explain when it operates.
  • Verify monoshock equipment and the exact CBS, disc or drum arrangement.
  • Match the engine and price figures on the invoice or official variant sheet to the motorcycle’s vehicle identification details.

How to make a fair price comparison

  1. Choose the safety level first. Compare a Pulsar and Xtreme with equivalent braking equipment. Do not compare the cheapest IBS motorcycle with a dual-channel ABS motorcycle and call the price gap a model difference.
  2. Use one date and one city. Request both ex-showroom quotations on the same day from dealers in the city where you will register the bike.
  3. Separate every charge. Ask for ex-showroom price, registration and road tax, insurance, handling or documentation fees, accessories and discounts as separate lines.
  4. Check the model year. A dealer may have older stock while a website displays a newer update. Record the manufacturing month and variant code.
  5. Compare the final on-road totals. Ex-showroom figures of ₹91,500–₹1,09,550 for the Hero and Bajaj’s conflicting starting figures do not tell you what you will actually pay.
  6. Keep the written quote. Save the quotation, promised equipment list and delivery date so the delivered motorcycle can be checked against what you accepted.

Test-ride plan for a meaningful decision

Book rides on both motorcycles in the same part of the day and, if possible, on similar roads. A few minutes of straight-line riding is not enough to assess a commuter motorcycle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Adjust the mirrors and sit naturally. Check whether your knees, wrists and shoulders feel relaxed.
  2. Make repeated slow U-turns and stop-start runs. Note clutch effort, steering balance and how easily you can place a foot down.
  3. Ride over a known speed breaker at a safe speed. Check for scraping and suspension harshness without deliberately abusing either bike.
  4. Use the brakes progressively on a clear, legal stretch. Confirm the system’s feel and any ABS or CBS intervention; do not perform emergency tests in traffic.
  5. Ride at your normal open-road speed and listen for vibration, wind noise and gear-change effort.
  6. Park, reverse and lift the motorcycle from its stand. This reveals practical weight differences that a moving test may hide.
  7. After both rides, write down impressions before discussing price. Then compare the exact variant and quote, not a generic model name.

Which bike fits which buyer?

Prioritise braking choice

The Xtreme 125R is easier to shortlist if you specifically want to compare IBS, single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS versions because Hero presents those choices on its current page. The Pulsar can still be suitable, but its current braking equipment must be confirmed variant by variant from the dealer and motorcycle.

Prioritise lower published mass or seat height

On the cited figures, the Xtreme is 136 kg and 790 mm, compared with the Pulsar brochure’s 144–146 kg and 795 mm. Those measurements favour the Hero for a rider who is sensitive to parking weight or seat reach, subject to the actual trim and riding position.

Prioritise clearance or fewer fuel stops

The cited figures point in opposite directions: Hero lists 180 mm of clearance, while Bajaj’s brochure lists a 15-litre tank against Hero’s 10 litres. Decide whether your roads make clearance or refuelling frequency more important, then verify the current Pulsar’s dimensions before ordering.

Prioritise connected instrumentation

Bajaj’s August 2026 release specifically highlights a 5-inch TFT and Google Maps navigation. If those features matter, demonstrate them on the motorcycle you will receive. Hero’s listed strengths instead include ride modes, a panic-brake alert and a wide rear tyre. Neither feature list proves that one motorcycle is more enjoyable or safer in every situation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Prioritise a transparent budget

Hero provides a Delhi ex-showroom range, but the price of each named braking variant is not established in the supplied material. Bajaj provides three conflicting starting-price claims. In either case, the deciding number should be a dated, same-city, same-variant on-road quotation.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Using an old search result: Ask whether the displayed bike is the 2026 update or previous stock.
  • Mixing Bajaj pages: Do not combine the release’s 12 PS engine with the product page’s ₹1,04,318 price unless Bajaj confirms they apply to the same variant.
  • Assuming a disc means ABS: Request the exact braking-system name and inspect the warning indicators.
  • Treating WMTC as everyday mileage: Hero’s 63 km/l is a stated test-cycle figure, not a guarantee for your traffic, load or riding style.
  • Comparing ex-showroom with on-road: Add registration, tax, insurance and selected accessories before deciding that one bike is cheaper.
  • Skipping the second ride: Seat comfort, balance, clutch feel and vibration are subjective and cannot be settled from a specification table.
  • Ordering by model name alone: Write the exact variant, braking hardware, model year and colour on the booking form.

Bottom line

The evidence supports a careful shortlist, not a blanket winner. The Hero Xtreme 125R offers a clearly documented four-variant range, published IBS and ABS choices, 790 mm seat height, 180 mm clearance and a 136 kg stated mass. The updated Bajaj Pulsar 125 may offer a larger tank and newer display-led equipment, but Bajaj’s own 2026 pages disagree on its price, engine figures and, in the supplied material, the full variant-level equipment picture.

Buy the motorcycle whose exact unit has the braking system you want, fits you on a test ride and comes with the clearer same-date on-road quote. If a dealer cannot reconcile the model year, variant code, specifications and price, postpone the purchase rather than relying on a generic web page.
