Prior Design’s PD720R is an aftermarket styling package for the McLaren 720S, adding redesigned bodywork across the front, sides and rear. Its dramatic appearance suggests an aerodynamic makeover, but the available sources do not establish that the conversion improves downforce, drag, cooling or performance.
What body kit is on the McLaren 720S?
The car’s transformation is Prior Design’s McLaren 720S PD720R Body Kit, not a factory McLaren variant. The standard product page describes a collection of add-on and replacement exterior parts. Prior Design says the standard kit is suitable for all 720S models.

How the PD720R changes the 720S’s appearance
The components make the conversion a whole-car restyling rather than a single spoiler upgrade. The front lip and fenders alter the nose and front-quarter profile; the side-skirt additions extend the visual treatment along the rocker panels; and the diffuser and separately listed rear wing give the tail a more overtly aggressive finish. The bonnet adds another major exterior change.
That visual drama sits against a factory design that already has a clear aerodynamic rationale. McLaren says the 720S was inspired by the teardrop and describes its deep-set headlights as having integrated intakes that guide air to the radiators. In McLaren Automotive’s words: “Its graceful stature was inspired by nature’s most perfect aerodynamic form – the teardrop.” The factory explanation describes McLaren’s own design; it is not evidence that the PD720R parts improve airflow.

Standard fiberglass kit and separate carbon widebody
Prior Design describes the standard PD720R kit as a fiberglass mix certified by TÜV Rheinland. It says the parts are designed to fit without prior modifications and recommends installation by a reliable workshop or experts experienced in fiberglass work. Those are the seller’s material, fitment and installation claims, not independently verified test results.
Prior Design also has a separate PD720R widebody product page describing a full-carbon version, pre-primed parts and a limited run of 10 worldwide. Those claims apply to that distinct offering, not automatically to the standard fiberglass kit; availability may change. Carbon construction by itself does not establish a performance advantage.

Does the Prior Design kit improve aerodynamics?
The styling is explicitly presented as an aerodynamic kit, but the sources reviewed do not provide independent aerodynamic measurements, drag data, downforce figures, controlled comparisons, road tests or installation tests for this conversion. The product name and sculpted parts therefore do not establish improved handling, cooling, speed or efficiency. Without those measurements, the grounded conclusion is that the PD720R changes the 720S’s appearance; a functional aerodynamic benefit has not been demonstrated.
