The Prattline Low Tow is a hard-sided telescopic camper trailer: its upper shell nests over the lower body for towing, then rises at camp to create more interior height. The revived model keeps that distinctive two-shell shape but replaces the original hydraulic lift with electric corner actuators and adds a reported off-road chassis and modern camping equipment. Detailed figures available in 2026 coverage describe a prototype, not a confirmed final production specification.
How the Low Tow’s telescoping design works
For travel, the upper hard shell lowers over the bottom section, creating a compact profile. At camp, the shell rises and the walls extend, giving occupants more headroom than the trailer has on the road. The design differs from a soft-sided pop-up: the Low Tow’s upper and lower sections are rigid shells.
New Atlas describes Prattline as an Australian pioneer in telescoping hard-sided trailers, founded by Dick Pratt in 1957. Its account places the Low Tow’s arrival around the 1960s or early 1970s and says the company sold versions of it into the 1990s before closing. New Atlas compares the nested-shell idea with Hi-Lo trailers and distinguishes the American Tow Low name as a separate product. New Atlas’s history and prototype coverage is the source for that account.
The concept is not just a styling holdover. In a travel configuration, lowering the roof reduces the trailer’s height; at camp, raising it restores interior volume. Actual towing suitability still depends on the finished trailer’s dimensions and mass, the tow vehicle and local rules.

What changed in the revived Low Tow
Electric lift instead of the original hydraulic system
Caravan Camping Sales describes the classic South Australian-built caravans as having been sold from around the 1970s through the 1990s, with a hydraulic lift. The revived prototype uses four electric actuators at the corners to raise the walls and roof. That outlet reports a travel height of 2,109 mm and a camp height of 2,820 mm; these are prototype figures, not a final production guarantee. Caravan Camping Sales’ January 2026 report describes the lift and dimensions.
Retained shape, updated construction and running gear
Mark Palmarini, identified by Caravan Camping Sales as the person in charge of design and development, explained the decision to preserve the outline: “We retained the old shape because it’s still aerodynamic. Some people say it’s too retro but I love the shape,” he said.

That report describes the prototype’s construction as a galvanised chassis, vacuum-bonded GRP frame, one-piece roof and honeycomb floor. It lists an off-road ball coupling and independent coil suspension. New Atlas adds a high-clearance galvanised chassis, dual-shock independent coil suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels, 265/75 R16 Goodride tyres and 12-inch electric brakes. These details come from reports on a prototype and should be checked against the specification of any trailer offered for sale.

New Atlas also reports a 6.9 m (22.7 ft) length and a 2.8 m (9.3 ft) camp height, with 1.93 m (6.2 ft) of standing room. It describes the battery as 600 Ah LFP. The small differences in rounded height figures across reports are another reason to confirm the final dimensions directly rather than treating media coverage as a build sheet.
Layout, kitchen and bathroom
Coverage describes a layout intended to provide both indoor and outdoor cooking options. Caravan Camping Sales lists an external kitchen and, inside, a double bed, dinette, kitchenette and combined shower and toilet. It also reports an induction cooktop, compressor fridge, stereo, TV and rooftop air conditioner.

New Atlas describes the exterior galley as a slide-out with a gas stove, sink and worktop. Indoors, it reports an induction cooktop and 12 V compressor fridge, a 78 x 59 in (200 x 150 cm) bed, a convertible dinette and a wet bath whose upper section uses collapsible fabric. It also notes the outdoor shower. These descriptions are reports about the prototype; confirm which appliances, fixtures and layout are included in the particular production model being offered.

The reported prototype weights are useful for an initial comparison, but they cannot establish whether a particular vehicle can legally or safely tow a Low Tow. Tare is not the trailer’s loaded travel mass, and the difference between the reported Tare and ATM is not automatically usable payload: fitted options, water, battery equipment, luggage and other load all matter. Ask for the final compliance plate and a complete, option-specific weight breakdown.

- Tow fit: Check the tow vehicle’s rated towing capacity, tow-ball download and gross combination mass, as well as the trailer’s plated ATM and loaded mass. Have the actual combination assessed against the relevant rules where it will be registered and used.
- Lift system: Ask how the electric actuators are controlled, how long raising and lowering takes, and what manual recovery procedure applies if power or an actuator fails.
- Off-road equipment: Confirm ground clearance, coupling, suspension, tyres and brakes on the exact build. A label or marketing description alone does not show whether the trailer suits a particular route.
- Camp setup: Check the final travel height, raised interior clearance, bed and dinette dimensions, bathroom arrangement and whether the external kitchen and awning are standard or optional.
- Electrical and water capacity: Confirm the installed battery chemistry and usable capacity, solar and inverter specification, and the actual fresh- and grey-water tank sizes.
- Ownership terms: Ask for current production status, delivered price, lead time, warranty and local service arrangements in writing.
Price, production and availability
Published prices are dated and not interchangeable as current quotes. Caravan Camping Sales reported a $78,000 show-special price on January 21, 2026. New Atlas reported AU$79,990 and preorders in its March 29, 2026 article. Neither report establishes present pricing or delivery terms.
Caravan Camping Sales said the Melbourne-based business was still refining the prototype, that Palmarini planned a Mk2 version and that production would be in China. It also described longer-term ambitions for US and European sales. Those are statements in that January report, not a guarantee of current production arrangements or export availability.
Prattline’s official website currently displays the Low Tow, 15FT Tourer and 18FT Tourer, describes the range as oriented toward Australian conditions and adventure, and provides an enquiry route. The page does not provide detailed specifications, a current price or stock status.
