The S models sit between the rear-wheel-drive Carrera and the more powerful GTS; Porsche said their launch doubled its all-wheel-drive 911 range to six variants.
What Porsche announced—and what the model-year labels mean
The July 2, 2025 U.S. announcement identifies all three cars as 2026 models. Porsche’s current international Carrera 4S page, by contrast, labels that model a 2027. Those labels refer to different points in time: the first is the announcement’s model year, while the second is the live international listing. Porsche’s current U.S. model-range page also lists the coupe, Cabriolet and Targa 4S. Porsche Newsroom USA’s announcement and the current international Carrera 4S page provide those respective contexts.
The 4S models are positioned below the GTS in power and above the standard rear-wheel-drive Carrera in the lineup. Porsche said the new models add 30 hp over their predecessors in the U.S. announcement.
How the all-wheel-drive system is described
Porsche says its Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system is rear-biased by default and sends more torque to the front axle when needed. The U.S. release describes a water-cooled front differential with an electromechanically controlled clutch. This is Porsche’s system description, not an independent assessment of grip or handling in real-world conditions.

Power and performance figures depend on market conventions
The U.S. release quotes the 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six at 473 hp (353 kW) and 390 lb-ft of torque. Porsche’s regional and international material gives the output as 353 kW (480 PS). These are two market-specific ways of stating the same metric-power figure; PS and U.S. mechanical horsepower are different units, so the numbers should not be swapped or treated as identical. Porsche’s regional announcement uses the 480 PS convention.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK). In its regional release, Porsche quotes 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds for the Carrera 4S coupe when equipped with Sport Chrono, and a top speed of 308 km/h. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results; the cited acceleration time specifically depends on the Sport Chrono package. The international Carrera 4S page also lists 3.3 seconds with Sport Chrono and 308 km/h.

Porsche’s releases list those seat and steering differences. The Targa’s all-wheel-drive identity also has a longer history: Porsche says the 911 Targa has been available exclusively with all-wheel drive since 2006.
Standard equipment and chassis details
Porsche says the new 4S models receive more standard equipment and enhanced brakes compared with their predecessors. The U.S. announcement specifically lists extended leather upholstery, Matrix Design LED headlights and wireless smartphone charging as standard. Porsche said that almost half of U.S. customers buying a 911 S variant choose all-wheel drive. That statistic applies to U.S. buyers of an S variant, not all 911 customers or buyers in other markets.
