The 718 Spyder is a specific, performance-focused version of the 718 Boxster family—not a direct match for every car called a Boxster. Porsche’s published figures show why the exact trim matters: the 2024 base Boxster is rated at 300 PS, the 2024 Boxster GTS 4.0 at 400 PS, and the 2025 Spyder RS at 500 PS. Those are different trims and model years, not a controlled, same-year comparison.
First, identify the Boxster and Spyder trims
“Boxster” covers a range of 718 roadsters. “Spyder” refers to a distinct performance model, and the Spyder RS is a separate, more powerful version. A useful comparison therefore names the precise trim and model year rather than treating either name as a single specification.
- 718 Boxster: Porsche International’s 2024 base-model listing specifies 300 PS.
- 718 Boxster GTS 4.0: The 2024 GTS 4.0 is a closer Boxster-range comparison if the focus is a six-cylinder engine; Porsche lists it at 400 PS.
- 718 Spyder: The brochure for the standard Spyder describes a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine.
- 718 Spyder RS: This is not simply another name for the standard Spyder. Porsche’s 2025 listing specifies 500 PS for the RS.
For the model descriptions and figures, see Porsche’s 718 Boxster specifications, 718 Spyder RS specifications and 718 lineup. The standard Spyder engine description is in Porsche’s 718 Spyder brochure.
How the published specifications compare
The table uses Porsche International specifications, not independent test results. The base Boxster and GTS 4.0 figures are for 2024 models; the Spyder RS figures are for 2025. Acceleration is measured to 100 km/h, power is stated in PS, and fuel-consumption figures use WLTP.

| Model and year | Power | 0–100 km/h | Top speed | Combined WLTP consumption | CO₂ emissions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 718 Boxster | 220 kW / 300 PS | 5.1 seconds | 275 km/h | 9.7–8.9 l/100 km | 220–201 g/km |
| 2024 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 | 294 kW / 400 PS | 4.5 seconds | 293 km/h | 10.9–10.1 l/100 km | 247–230 g/km |
| 2025 718 Spyder RS | 368 kW / 500 PS | 3.4 seconds | 308 km/h | 12.7 l/100 km | 288 g/km |
All table values are Porsche-published specifications for the named model years and trims. The figures describe different cars rather than a like-for-like test, and the consumption and emissions values are WLTP figures. Porsche lists the Boxster variants on its Boxster model page and the Spyder RS on its Spyder RS model page.
These international figures should not be read as U.S. horsepower, 0–60 mph times or EPA fuel-economy ratings. Those use different units or testing bases.

What the standard Spyder’s engine figures tell you
Porsche’s standard 718 Spyder brochure describes a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine. For the specification in that brochure, Porsche gives maximum torque of 420 Nm from 5,000 to 6,800 rpm with the manual transmission. For PDK, it gives 430 Nm at 5,500 rpm and a 0–100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds with Launch Control activated. These brochure figures belong to that Spyder specification; they should not be transferred to the later Spyder RS.
Porsche’s Spyder brochure is the source for those engine and transmission details. The 2019 Porsche press-kit summary positions the Spyder and Cayman GT4 as flagship 718 models and describes a functional diffuser that generates aerodynamic downforce on the rear axle. That feature alone does not establish a particular road or track advantage.

Which comparison is useful for your decision?
Base Boxster versus Spyder
This contrasts the entry-level 2024 Boxster specification with a distinct Spyder model. Porsche’s international material supports comparing the base car’s published 300 PS figure with the standard Spyder’s documented naturally aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder configuration, but the available figures here do not establish a same-year, same-basis performance comparison between those exact versions.
Boxster GTS 4.0 versus Spyder
The GTS 4.0 is the closer Boxster-range reference when the key question is six-cylinder power: Porsche lists the 2024 GTS 4.0 at 400 PS, while its Spyder brochure documents a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre six-cylinder. Do not substitute the 2025 Spyder RS’s 500 PS rating for the standard Spyder or treat the separate model-year specifications as an independent head-to-head result.

Spyder versus Spyder RS
These are different versions. The standard Spyder brochure supplies generation-specific engine and transmission details; Porsche’s current international page gives the 2025 Spyder RS its own 500 PS and performance specifications. Use the relevant version’s documentation rather than assuming that the RS figures describe every Spyder.

Specifications can establish differences in stated output and acceleration, but they do not by themselves answer whether a Spyder is worth its price premium or which car feels better to drive. The cited Porsche material does not establish comparable regional prices, used-car values, maintenance costs, detailed roof-operation differences or independent handling impressions. Those questions require information for the exact market, model year and vehicles being considered.

Quick Recap
How to make a fair comparison
- Write down the full model name and year. Specify base Boxster, Boxster GTS 4.0, standard Spyder or Spyder RS before comparing specifications.
- Match the market and measurement basis. Compare power, acceleration and consumption using the same regional units and test cycle; do not mix PS with U.S. horsepower or 0–100 km/h with 0–60 mph as though they were identical.
- Verify the actual cars’ equipment and price locally. The international specifications do not establish local pricing, equipment, availability or used-market value.
- Use driving evidence for driving claims. Manufacturer specifications and aerodynamic descriptions are not substitutes for a named independent test or a direct drive when judging handling, comfort or day-to-day usability.
