Those are plans, not a confirmed on-sale date or final vehicle specification: the manufacturing collaboration began as a non-binding memorandum of understanding, and Polestar has not announced the 7’s price, range, battery, power, or U.S. sales plan.
What Polestar has announced about the Polestar 7
Polestar describes the 7 as a premium compact SUV and says it is in development. In its 3 July 2025 announcement, the company said it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Volvo Cars for the vehicle to be manufactured in Košice, Slovakia, ahead of a planned 2028 launch. Polestar’s current product page continues to describe it as a premium compact SUV in development and says European production is confirmed.
That wording sets out the announced direction, not a guarantee of a particular launch date or production outcome. Volvo Cars described the arrangement as a non-binding memorandum expressing mutual intent to pursue a potential collaboration; execution and implementation remain subject to negotiation and definitive agreements. Volvo Cars’ explanation of the memorandum makes that qualification explicit.
When is the Polestar 7 coming out?
Polestar’s plan is to launch the Polestar 7 in 2028. The company has not announced an exact launch day, order-opening date, or delivery schedule for this model, so 2028 should be read as a target rather than a guaranteed showroom date. Polestar warns that development, design, manufacturing, and launch can be delayed, and that production depends on partners and available capacity.

The 7 is part of a broader planned rollout that helps explain why Polestar’s near-term lineup may be difficult to follow. In its 18 February 2026 announcement, Polestar laid out this sequence:

The schedule is Polestar’s own forward plan, not a confirmed delivery calendar. The practical takeaway is that the Polestar 7 is not the next vehicle in the announced sequence: the company placed a Polestar 4 variant and a new Polestar 2 ahead of it. Polestar’s February 2026 model announcement also says the company is targeting the European compact-SUV segment, which it says accounted for approximately one-third of total European BEV volumes in 2025. That market estimate is Polestar’s figure; the release does not identify its underlying dataset.

Where will the Polestar 7 be built?
Košice, Slovakia, is the announced intended production location. Polestar named the Volvo Cars plant there in July 2025, and its product page describes European production as confirmed. The plan ties the vehicle to Volvo Cars’ manufacturing operation, but the memorandum’s non-binding status means it should not be described as an unconditional final production agreement.
What platform and technology will it use?
Polestar and Volvo Cars have described shared technology, but neither has published a final Polestar 7 platform specification. Polestar says the vehicle will use a Volvo Cars technology base and refers to group component sharing, cell-to-body technology, next-generation battery density and performance, and next-generation in-house electric motors. Polestar also says it intends to adapt the technology to deliver its own driving experience and performance characteristics.

Volvo Cars gave a related but more specific account: it said the Polestar 7 would share a technology base with two forthcoming Volvo models, including the EX60, and named mega casting, cell-to-body technology, electric motors, and a shared software base, core system, and cloud infrastructure. These are descriptions of planned technology sharing, not a finalized list of equipment or specifications for the production Polestar 7. The companies have not stated a final platform name or confirmed that every named technology will appear on the finished vehicle. Volvo Cars’ announcement details the intended shared base.

Polestar has not announced whether the Polestar 7 will be sold in the United States. In a 25 June 2026 statement, the company said the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security would not grant it authorization under the current Connected Vehicle Rule to sell vehicles in the country from model year 2027 onward. Polestar said it would continue selling existing Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 stock in the U.S., support customers, and increase its focus on Europe while localizing manufacturing for future models.

That announcement concerns the regulatory decision and Polestar’s stated response; it does not confirm the Polestar 7’s eventual U.S. availability or rule it out. What has not been announced?
Polestar’s official materials reviewed for this article do not state the Polestar 7’s price, driving range, battery capacity, charging rate, motor output, dimensions, cargo capacity, trims, production volume, order date, or exact delivery date. They also do not provide a model-specific final platform name or a confirmed U.S. sales plan. Without those details, comparisons of the 7’s likely performance, value, or specifications against other SUVs would be guesswork.
For now, the useful distinction is between the announced outline and the unanswered buyer questions: Polestar has identified the segment, target year, intended production site, and broad technology-sharing approach. The details needed to assess the vehicle as a purchase remain undisclosed. Polestar’s Polestar 7 product page likewise presents it as a vehicle in development rather than a model with published buyer specifications.
