What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Short answer: the RZR Pro R is the higher-output machine, with Polaris listing a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine making 225 hp. The RZR Turbo R used a 1000cc turbocharged twin-cylinder engine listed at 181 hp. Polaris renamed the Turbo R RZR Pro S for 2024, so a new-vehicle shopper is normally comparing a current Pro R with a current Pro S, while a used-vehicle shopper may still find Turbo R listings.
The 44-hp difference is the clearest published distinction, but it is not a complete performance test. Width, suspension, seating, model year, trim, accessories, condition, destination charges and local dealer pricing can change the buying decision. Use the exact year and configuration on the vehicle’s build sheet or listing rather than treating every Turbo R or Pro S as identical.

What changed from Turbo R to Pro S?
Polaris says the RZR Turbo R was renamed the RZR Pro S in 2024 “to align with the rest of the RZR Pro series.” Polaris also says the rename brought no significant mechanical changes. That makes the name change primarily a model-identity issue for buyers, although the company describes 2025 Pro S updates to the body, comfort and technology.

“The primary difference between the two models is engine size,” Polaris states in its buyer FAQ.
That statement is useful for the broad comparison, but it does not replace a matched-year specification check. The available official comparison material does not provide one exhaustive table covering every Turbo R year and trim against every Pro R version.
Engine and published power
Pro R: 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder
Polaris lists the Pro R with a naturally aspirated 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine rated at 225 hp. “Naturally aspirated” means the engine is not described as using a turbocharger in the cited specification; the power figure is Polaris’s published rating for the Pro R comparison.
This is the straightforward option to investigate if your priority is the greater published horsepower number. It does not, by itself, establish acceleration, top speed, fuel consumption, reliability or how the vehicle will feel on a particular trail or dune.
Turbo R: 1000cc turbocharged twin-cylinder
Polaris’s FAQ lists the Turbo R at 1000cc, with two cylinders and a turbocharger, producing 181 hp. Because Turbo R covers earlier model years and trims, treat 181 hp as Polaris’s comparison figure rather than a universal specification for every used example. Verify the exact year and trim in the listing or vehicle documentation.
How large is the published difference?
Using Polaris’s two quoted figures, the Pro R is rated 44 hp higher than the Turbo R (225 minus 181). That is a specification comparison, not an independent acceleration result. Weight, gearing, tires, drivetrain calibration, terrain, passenger load and vehicle condition can all affect what a driver experiences.
| Published comparison item | RZR Pro R | RZR Turbo R | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine layout | 2.0L naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder | 1000cc turbocharged twin-cylinder | Polaris identifies engine size as the primary difference. |
| Published horsepower | 225 hp | 181 hp | Polaris comparison figures; Turbo R output should be checked against the exact year and trim. |
| Calculated difference | 44 hp in favor of Pro R | Arithmetic from Polaris’s figures; not a test of acceleration or top speed. | |
Width, suspension travel and terrain context
What Polaris publishes for Pro R
The current 2026 Pro R page lists a 74-inch stance and 29 inches of usable suspension travel. Polaris describes the model as designed for desert and dune use. Those figures help establish the Pro R’s physical scale and intended open-terrain context.

A 74-inch stance can affect whether a vehicle fits a trailer, garage, gate or established trail, so measure your actual storage and access points rather than relying on a general “wide” or “narrow” label. The 29-inch usable-travel figure is a Pro R figure from the 2026 page; it should not be transferred to a Turbo R or Pro S without a year-and-trim specification.
What is not established for Turbo R in this comparison
The cited official materials do not provide one current, matched Turbo R width and usable-travel figure suitable for every used listing. A Turbo R’s dimensions can be tied only to its specific model year and trim. Ask the seller for the original specification sheet or verify the vehicle identification details before making a trailer, garage or trail-access decision.
Do not use the Pro R’s stance and travel numbers alone to declare it superior on every route. Terrain, local width limits, tire choice, setup, driver skill and the condition of a used vehicle all matter, and the supplied figures do not include an independent comparative test.
Current 2026 pricing: Pro R versus Pro S
For new US-market vehicles, Polaris’s 2026 listings provide the following starting points. These are model-family starting MSRPs, not out-the-door quotes and not guaranteed prices for a particular seat configuration or trim.
| 2026 model family | Starting US MSRP | Listed destination charge | MSRP plus listed destination | Seating shown by Polaris |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RZR Pro R | $43,999 | $1,995 | $45,994 before taxes and other fees | 2-seat and 4-seat versions |
| RZR Pro S | $27,499 | $1,295 | $28,794 before taxes and other fees | 2-seat and 4-seat versions |
Polaris cautions that MSRP can change and excludes destination, handling, taxes, title, license and registration unless a listing states otherwise. Dealer prices can differ. The arithmetic in the last column simply adds the listed destination charge to the starting MSRP; it is not a dealer quote.
Why the starting-price gap is not a like-for-like value verdict
The displayed starting figures differ by $16,500 before destination and other costs. That gap does not prove that one vehicle is a better value because the two listings may represent different trims, equipment or seating layouts. A 2-seat base vehicle and a 4-seat higher trim are not equivalent comparisons, even when both carry a Pro-family name.
For a meaningful price check, record the exact model year, trim, seat count, factory equipment, accessories, destination charge, dealer-installed items and local taxes and fees. For a used Turbo R, add mileage, service history, title status and physical condition to the worksheet; its original MSRP is not the same as its current market value.

Seating and trim: match the vehicle before comparing it
Polaris lists both Pro R and Pro S in 2-seat and 4-seat configurations. Seating changes the vehicle you are evaluating, so compare 2-seat with 2-seat or 4-seat with 4-seat whenever possible.

- Is the vehicle a 2-seat or 4-seat version?
- What model year and trim name are shown on the title, VIN record or factory documentation?
- Is the listing a Turbo R, a 2024-or-later Pro S, or a different RZR variant?
- Which equipment is factory-installed and which items were added later?
- Is the quoted price MSRP, a dealer selling price, or a used-vehicle asking price?
If any answer is missing, treat the comparison as incomplete rather than filling in a specification from a different year.
How to compare a used Turbo R with a new or used Pro R
1. Establish the model identity
Start with the model year and the name shown on the vehicle documentation. A Turbo R may be an earlier vehicle, while Pro S is the name Polaris adopted in 2024. Record whether the vehicle is a Turbo R or Pro S before comparing prices or equipment.
2. Match seating and trim
Place vehicles with the same seat count and comparable trim on the same line of your worksheet. If one listing is a 4-seat vehicle and the other is a 2-seat vehicle, label the difference instead of calling the prices directly comparable.
3. Capture the published engine figures accurately
For the broad family comparison, note 225 hp for the Pro R and Polaris’s 181-hp Turbo R figure. Add the qualification that the Turbo R number is a manufacturer comparison figure and that a particular year or trim may require its own confirmation.
4. Verify the physical specifications you need
If your decision depends on trailer width, garage clearance or suspension travel, obtain the exact specification for the vehicle under consideration. The 2026 Pro R figures are 74 inches of stance and 29 inches of usable travel; do not copy them into a Turbo R or Pro S listing.
5. Separate factory equipment from accessories
Ask the seller to identify what came from Polaris and what was added later. Accessories can affect the asking price and may not make two vehicles equivalent. Keep factory equipment, dealer-installed items and owner-added parts in separate columns.

6. Build an out-the-door or all-in used cost
For a new vehicle, start with MSRP and the stated destination charge, then add the handling, taxes, title, license, registration and any dealer-installed items shown on the quote. For a used vehicle, add the purchase price, applicable fees and the cost of any condition-related work you can document. Do not call either figure an out-the-door price until the dealer or seller has supplied all applicable charges.
7. Check the vehicle’s condition and records
Request maintenance records, ownership and title information, and a written list of included accessories. Inspect the vehicle in person or have an independent qualified technician inspect it if the purchase distance makes an in-person evaluation difficult. The official specifications cannot reveal how a particular used vehicle was maintained or operated.
Which one fits common buyer priorities?
Choose Pro R for the higher published power figure
If your first filter is the manufacturer-rated horsepower number, Pro R is the clear candidate: 225 hp versus Polaris’s 181-hp Turbo R comparison figure. Investigate the Pro R’s exact seating, trim, width and price before committing, because the highest published output does not answer every practical question.
Consider Pro S when you are shopping the current successor line
If you want a new vehicle in the line that replaced Turbo R by name, look at Pro S listings. Polaris says the 2024 rename did not involve significant mechanical changes and describes 2025 body, comfort and technology updates. Confirm which updates are present on the exact model year and trim rather than assuming every Pro S has identical equipment.
Use a used Turbo R listing on its own terms
A used Turbo R can be a legitimate alternative, but its value depends on the individual vehicle. Compare its documented year, trim, condition, service history and included equipment with the Pro R or Pro S you are considering. The Turbo R badge alone does not establish a current price, a specific stance, a particular suspension package or the condition of the drivetrain.
Prioritize fit and access constraints
If your property, trailer or riding area imposes a width limit, verify dimensions before discussing horsepower. The 2026 Pro R’s listed 74-inch stance is a concrete starting point for that check; an exact figure is still required for the other vehicle and for any different Pro R trim or year.

Calling Turbo R and Pro S unrelated vehicles

Assuming every 181-hp Turbo R is identical
The 181-hp value is Polaris’s published comparison figure. Used Turbo R vehicles span model years and trims, so the listing’s exact specification remains controlling.
Using starting MSRP as a final purchase price
The listed 2026 figures exclude destination-related and other costs, and dealers may price differently. A starting MSRP is an entry point for a quote, not an out-the-door number.
Comparing different seat counts without labeling them
Both families include 2-seat and 4-seat versions. A seating mismatch changes the practical use and may change equipment and price, so disclose it in any side-by-side comparison.
Turning horsepower into a promise about performance
The 44-hp arithmetic is useful for understanding the published engine distinction. It does not establish acceleration, top speed, fuel economy, reliability or a guaranteed advantage on a particular surface.
A buyer’s side-by-side worksheet
Copy this checklist into your notes before requesting a quote or inspecting a used vehicle:
- Model identity: Pro R, Turbo R or Pro S.
- Model year: record the year shown in the official listing and vehicle documents.
- Seat count: 2 or 4.
- Trim: write the complete trim designation, not only the family name.
- Engine figure: note the applicable manufacturer-published output and its year qualification.
- Dimensions: verify stance and usable travel for that exact vehicle.
- Price basis: MSRP, dealer price or used asking price.
- Charges: destination, handling, taxes, title, license and registration.
- Equipment: separate factory, dealer-installed and owner-added items.
- Condition: mileage or hours, service records, title status and inspection findings.
- Availability: confirm that the vehicle is actually in stock or that the listing identifies a specific unit.
Once those fields are complete, you can compare like for like without treating a renamed model, a different seat configuration or a starting MSRP as a hidden specification.
Bottom-line buying guidance
For the published engine comparison, Pro R is the higher-output choice at 225 hp, while the Turbo R is listed at 181 hp. For current new-model shopping, the relevant counterpart to Pro R is Pro S because Polaris renamed Turbo R in 2024. The 2026 starting figures are $43,999 for Pro R and $27,499 for Pro S before their listed destination charges and other costs.
Recommended Free Tools
The right purchase decision depends on more than those headline numbers. Match model year, trim and seat count; verify the exact dimensions and equipment; and turn the listed MSRP into a complete local quote. A used Turbo R should be judged as a specific vehicle with its own records and condition, not as a generic substitute for every Pro S or Pro R.
