The aircraft behind the $190,000 headline is Pivotal’s single-seat Helix, a personal electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. The “deliveries begin July” date is stale: it came from a 2024 forecast, while Pivotal’s current order page lists first shipment in 2026 and offers 2026 delivery positions. The “no license required” claim is narrower than it sounds: Pivotal describes the Helix as designed for the U.S. Part 103 ultralight category, but requires pilot training and sets eligibility and operating conditions.
What the Pivotal Helix is—and what it is not
The Helix is a single-seat electric aircraft with fixed rotors and tandem wings, built for personal flight rather than carrying passengers as an air taxi. Pivotal markets it as an eVTOL, but that label does not make it a road car or a passenger aircraft. Its design and intended use matter when considering where and how it can be operated.

Pivotal’s current product page lists these specifications. They are manufacturer-published figures, not independently validated test results.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Manufacturer specification | Published figure |
|---|---|
| Maximum gross takeoff weight | 568 lb |
| Payload | 220 lb |
| Cruise speed | 55 knots (62 mph) |
| Maximum electric endurance | Up to 20 minutes |
| Maximum electric range | Up to 20 miles |
| Assembled footprint | 14 by 14 feet |
| Disassembled footprint | 14 by 5 feet |
| Charge time | 75 minutes using a 240 V charger |
These figures are ceilings or listed specifications, not promises of what every flight will achieve. The 20-minute endurance and 20-mile range are especially important to read as maximums. New Atlas reported more than 20 miles of range with a 20% reserve in May 2024, but that is an older report; Pivotal’s current product page uses the rounded maximum of up to 20 miles.

Price and package choices
Pivotal’s January 2024 U.S. sales announcement set the base price at $190,000. The current order page continues to list a $190,000 base package. This is an advertised aircraft price, not an all-in ownership cost: taxes, delivery, and other fees may apply.
Pivotal’s January 2024 announcement described three packages. The prices and equipment below are dated descriptions, not a guarantee of current package availability or contents; confirm both with Pivotal before ordering.
| Package | Announced price | Announced inclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Base | $190,000 | Base Helix package; the announcement’s cited details do not establish every current included component. |
| Middle package | $240,000 | Trailer, 4K landing-camera features, ADS-B system, extra charger, and enhanced warranty. |
| Upper package | $260,000 | Further upgrades, including premium flight deck, additional chargers, beacon lighting, emergency locator transmitter, and an extra training slot. |
A package sheet dated April 2, 2025 also described equipment differences. Because the manufacturer’s current order terms can change, ask for an up-to-date written quote that spells out the package, delivery charges, taxes, warranty, training, and delivery timing.

When are Helix deliveries expected?
The July timing in the headline traces to a 2024 forecast, not the current schedule. Pivotal’s order page now says first shipment in 2026 and invites customers to reserve a 2026 delivery position. A posted shipment schedule is not evidence that customer aircraft have already been delivered; the available information does not establish how many, if any, had reached customers by September 30, 2026.

- DETAILED TWIN-SPOOL ARCHITECTURE: This 1:10 scale model recreates the layered structure of an aerospace turbofan engine, including a single-stage fan, two-stage low-pressure compressor, four-stage high-pressure compressor, single-stage high-pressure turbine, and two-stage low-pressure turbine.
- PRECISION METAL CRAFTSMANSHIP: Made from precision-cast and CNC-machined metal components, the model features sandblasted and anodized surfaces for durability, refined texture, and a professional industrial finish. Its substantial construction highlights the complexity of modern turbofan engineering.
- MOTORIZED AND FULLY VISIBLE: The cutaway engine casing reveals the internal rotating assemblies as the motor simulates coordinated turbofan operation. A fixed display stand, throttle control lever, and engine sound module create a more engaging mechanical demonstration.
- 1000+ PART ASSEMBLY PROJECT: Build the engine from more than 1,000 components, including screws and nuts. Tools and an English instruction manual are included. The manufacturer estimates approximately 10 hours of assembly time. The multi-stage process is intended for experienced model builders familiar with small components and detailed mechanical assembly.
- IMPRESSIVE ENGINEERING DISPLAY: Measuring approximately 14.96 × 6.50 × 9.25 inches and weighing about 11.68 pounds when completed, the DM119 becomes a commanding mechanical centerpiece for a home, office, studio, workshop, or aviation-themed collection.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the Helix require a pilot’s license?
Pivotal says the Helix is designed to comply with the U.S. Part 103 ultralight category, which the company describes as not requiring a pilot license. That is a specific U.S. regulatory framing, not a worldwide exemption or permission to fly wherever you choose. The available regulatory description is Pivotal’s summary; do not treat it as a complete assessment of every rule that could apply to a particular flight.

- Durable Construction: The fuselage is made of metal material, The wings are made of plastic, which can be played and displayed for a long time.
- Realistic Design: Beautifully crafted model airplane, it is a beautiful decorative item.
- Compact Size:Measures approximately 6 inches long and fits easily on desks, offices, bookcases, and displays
- Movable Parts: With sliding wheels, it can simulate the take-off condition for any occasions.
- Excellent Gift: Whether as a birthday, Christmas gift for modeling enthusiasts or family and friends, this airplane model is the best choice.
No license does not mean no training
Pivotal requires comprehensive initial and recurrent flight training. The company says pilots must complete training to support safe operation in routine and unexpected situations. This is a manufacturer requirement, not an independent safety finding, and should not be mistaken for a government-issued pilot certificate.

Pivotal’s materials identify age, body-size, location, and operating-area conditions. The company describes operation over uncongested areas and away from airports. Anyone considering the Helix needs to check the applicable rules and Pivotal’s current eligibility requirements for their location and planned operation. “No license required” does not mean unrestricted access to airspace or an absence of operating constraints.
