Lock the wheel, check the panel from your normal driving position, and set the mirrors last. Peugeot’s handbooks make visibility and a stationary vehicle the essential conditions.
Why the steering wheel can hide a Peugeot i-Cockpit display
Peugeot’s i-Cockpit places the instrument panel so the driver looks over a relatively small-diameter steering wheel rather than through its rim. That arrangement only works when the seat, backrest and wheel are fitted to the individual driver. A wheel that is too high, too low, too close or too far away can cover warning lamps, speed information or other parts of the panel.

The owner handbooks do not describe this as a component that needs replacing. They treat it as a driving-position adjustment. The 2020 Peugeot 208 handbook specifically tells the driver to check that the “head-up” instrument panel can be viewed correctly over the smaller-diameter steering wheel. The 2023 Peugeot 308 handbook says to set steering-wheel height so the wheel does not obstruct the instrument panel. The 2024 Peugeot 3008 handbook gives the same basic adjustment method, while noting that the panoramic i-Cockpit display arrangement depends on the vehicle version.

Do this before touching the steering wheel
Park and keep the vehicle stationary
Stop in a safe place, select the appropriate parked state for your transmission, apply the parking brake where required, and keep the vehicle stationary while you make the adjustment. Peugeot’s instructions specifically require steering-wheel adjustment while stationary. Do not pull the release control or try to reposition the wheel while moving, even if only a small part of the display is hidden.
Start with the seat and backrest
The wheel cannot be positioned correctly until your seating position is correct. Sit as you would for a normal journey, with your back supported by the backrest and your feet able to operate the pedals without stretching. Do not move the wheel toward you simply to compensate for a seat that is too far back.
For the 208, Peugeot lists this setup sequence: head restraint, backrest angle, seat-cushion height, longitudinal seat position, steering-wheel reach, steering-wheel height, and then mirrors. The sequence matters because moving the seat after the wheel can put the display back behind the rim.

When moving the seat, check that its travel is not restricted by an object behind it and that it will not trap a rear passenger. Those checks are part of Peugeot’s seating guidance and prevent a well-positioned wheel from creating a separate seating hazard.
Step-by-step: clear the instrument panel
- Stop completely. Make every adjustment with the vehicle stationary.
- Set the head restraint and backrest. Use a supported, comfortable posture rather than leaning forward to see the panel.
- Set seat height and longitudinal position. Confirm that you can reach the pedals and that the seat can move freely without contacting anything behind it.
- Release the steering wheel. Pull the steering-wheel adjustment control to unlock it. The exact control shape and location can vary by Peugeot model.
- Adjust reach. Move the wheel nearer or farther until your arms are comfortable and the rim is not intruding into the viewing area.
- Adjust height. Raise or lower the wheel so the full relevant portion of the instrument panel is visible above it. Peugeot’s 308 and 3008 instructions expressly call for height adjustment to prevent obstruction.
- Lock the wheel. Push the adjustment control back into its locked position. Do not drive until you have confirmed that the wheel is secure.
- Check the display from the settled position. Look straight ahead as you would on the road, not by leaning sideways or ducking your head. Confirm that the information you need is not hidden by the rim.
- Set the mirrors last. Adjust the interior and door mirrors only after the seat and steering position are final. This follows the 208 setup order and avoids having to repeat the mirror adjustment.
How to confirm the position is actually usable
Use your normal eye position
The test is not whether you can see the display from an unusual posture. Sit fully back against the backrest and look through the normal forward-driving line of sight. If you must hunch, raise your chin or shift your head to read the panel, the position is not yet suitable.
Check the whole information area
Look for the parts of the panel you rely on during a trip, including the vehicle-speed information and warning or status indications. The handbooks use the broader instruction to view the instrument panel correctly or ensure that it is not obstructed; they do not provide a universal list of pixels or lamps that must remain visible on every version.

Verify the locking action
After moving the wheel, make sure the release control is fully returned to its locked state. A wheel that appears to be in the right place but has not locked is not ready for driving. If the control will not lock, stop and consult the handbook for that vehicle rather than forcing the mechanism.

These passages support the same practical solution—seat first, then wheel reach and height, then mirrors—but they do not establish one universal wheel position for every Peugeot. The correct endpoint is the position that leaves the panel visible from your safe, comfortable seated posture and locks securely.
If the display is still blocked after adjustment
Recheck the order
Return the seat and backrest to a workable position, then repeat the sequence. A common cause of a persistent obstruction is fine-tuning the wheel before setting seat height or longitudinal position. The 208 sequence puts those seat settings first for this reason.

Use both adjustment directions
Moving only the wheel toward or away from you may leave its rim at the wrong vertical level. Release it again while parked and try a combined reach and height adjustment. The 308 and 3008 procedures expressly identify both dimensions.
Check the viewing position, not just the wheel
If the panel is visible only when you lean, the seat or backrest still needs attention. Re-establish a supported posture and judge visibility from there. Do not lower the wheel so far that it interferes with comfortable steering or move the seat into a position that compromises pedal control.

If the wheel will not release, will not lock, or cannot be positioned without blocking the panel, consult the owner handbook for the exact model, model year or issue period, market and cockpit version. Peugeot’s Service Box documentation is organized by vehicle and documentation versions. Its cited information reports an update dated 2026-09-03, version 546, and notes that documentation coverage and versions can vary. Select the handbook that matches the vehicle rather than relying on a handbook for a visually similar Peugeot.

Do not assume an accessory is required
The documented remedy uses the seat and steering-wheel controls already fitted to the vehicle. The handbook passages do not establish a need for a replacement steering wheel, an added display, a spacer, a tool or another physical product. If normal controls cannot provide a clear view, obtain model-specific guidance before purchasing or modifying anything.

- Model: A 208, 308 and 3008 may use different control layouts and panel configurations.
- Documentation issue: The 2020 208, 2023 308 and 2024 3008 extracts are not interchangeable instructions for every production year.
- Market and language: Handbook content and equipment descriptions can differ by market, so use the documentation supplied for the vehicle’s registration or sale region.
- Cockpit version: The 3008 handbook qualifies its panoramic display arrangement by version; equipment level can affect what you see above the wheel.
- Control arrangement: The release lever or control may look different between vehicles even though the adjustment principle is the same.
These distinctions are why a generic picture or a handbook for another year may not show the correct control location. When in doubt, identify the vehicle in Peugeot’s handbook system and follow that document’s diagrams and warnings.
Safe-driving checks after the adjustment
- The vehicle is stationary while every steering-wheel change is made.
- The backrest, seat height and seat travel provide a supported, pedal-safe driving position.
- The wheel has been adjusted for both reach and height where needed.
- The release control is fully locked.
- The instrument panel is readable from the normal seated position without leaning.
- The rear-view and door mirrors have been set after the final seat and wheel position.
- No object behind the seat restricts its movement or creates a passenger-trapping risk.
If any of these checks fails, remain parked and correct the position or consult the vehicle-specific handbook. The available Peugeot guidance does not provide a single alternative workaround for every configuration, so an unresolved obstruction should be treated as a model-specific question rather than solved by an improvised modification.

When to seek vehicle-specific help
Seek Peugeot-specific assistance or consult the exact handbook if the adjustment control is damaged, the wheel will not lock, the seat cannot be positioned safely, or the display remains hidden across all reasonable seat and wheel settings. Have the model, model year or issue period, market and equipment version available when asking. Those details allow the instructions to be matched to the correct cockpit and documentation revision.
For a normally functioning vehicle, however, the handbook-supported answer is straightforward: establish the seat and backrest first, adjust the wheel’s reach and height while parked, lock it, and verify that the i-Cockpit panel is visible before driving.
