In the UAE, a hybrid’s fuel cost depends on its model-specific fuel economy, the fuel grade it requires and the month’s pump price. At October 2026 Special 95 prices, Toyota’s advertised 30.3 km/L for the 2026 Corolla Hybrid works out to about AED 0.141 per kilometre, or AED 2,119 a year at 15,000 km. That is an estimate based on manufacturer-published figures—not a real-world test or proof that a hybrid costs less overall.
How much does fuel cost in the UAE in October 2026?
UAE pump prices are revised monthly, so a fuel-cost comparison needs a dated price. The Gasoline and Diesel Prices Follow-up Committee approved the following rates for October 2026, as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM) on 30 September 2026:

WAM says the prices were approved under the UAE’s monthly pricing mechanism, which reflects global energy price movements and local market needs. Check the current rate when making your own estimate, and use the grade specified for each car rather than assuming both vehicles use the same fuel.

What does the 2026 Corolla Hybrid example cost to fuel?
Toyota UAE lists the 1.8L 2026 Corolla Hybrid at a starting price of AED 89,900 and advertises fuel economy of 30.3 km/L. The economy figure is manufacturer-published, not an independent UAE road-test result.
Using October 2026 Special 95 at AED 4.28/L, the estimate is:
- Cost per kilometre: AED 4.28 ÷ 30.3 km/L = about AED 0.141/km.
- At 15,000 km a year: 15,000 ÷ 30.3 × AED 4.28 = about AED 2,119 in annual fuel.
These calculations assume the advertised economy and the stated October fuel price. Actual fuel use and spend can differ with driving conditions and the price in effect when fuel is bought.

Why city and highway driving can change the comparison
Toyota UAE says hybrids are particularly suited to stop-start city conditions. That is manufacturer guidance about hybrid technology, not independent proof of how much a particular UAE driver will save. Your route matters: frequent traffic and stops may produce a different result from a commute dominated by steady highway driving. Compare fuel economy on a consistent basis for the particular petrol and hybrid models you are considering.
Toyota also notes that hybrid purchase prices may be higher. Whether fuel savings offset that difference depends on the actual price premium, annual distance and fuel use of both cars; the Corolla Hybrid’s advertised figure alone cannot answer it.

How to compare two cars fairly
- Choose a genuinely comparable pair. Match the vehicles as closely as possible in size, use and specification. Record each current purchase price.
- Use a fuel-economy figure for each exact model. Note whether each number is manufacturer-claimed or independently measured; avoid comparing figures produced on different bases.
- Apply the correct, current fuel price. Use the required grade for each car and date the AED-per-litre rate, since UAE prices change monthly.
- Estimate annual fuel spend. Use: annual kilometres ÷ kilometres per litre × AED per litre. Apply the calculation separately to each car.
- Account for your driving mix. Consider how much of your annual distance is stop-start urban driving versus highway driving; the official or advertised figure may not represent your particular route.
- Calculate payback only when the inputs are comparable. Divide the hybrid’s purchase-price premium by the annual fuel saving. If the petrol-car price and fuel consumption are unavailable on a comparable basis, a reliable payback figure cannot be calculated.
What the available figures do—and do not—show
The Corolla Hybrid example gives a dated fuel-cost estimate for one hybrid. The available figures do not provide a matched petrol Corolla price and fuel-economy figure, so they cannot establish the hybrid’s payback period or which version costs less overall. They also do not establish an independent UAE real-world fuel comparison or a measured maintenance-cost difference. Treat fuel arithmetic as an estimate, not a full ownership-cost verdict.
