Petrol Cars Under ₹7 Lakh in India: 2026 Prices, Variants and Buying Guide

The S-Presso and Alto K10 have the lowest verified starting prices in this 2026 ex-showroom shortlist. Compare exact petrol trims, manual or automatic options, on-road costs and time-sensitive offers before buying.

If your ₹7 lakh ceiling means ex-showroom price, the lowest verified petrol-car starting prices in this shortlist are the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso at ₹3,49,900 and the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 at ₹3,69,900. The Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and WagonR provide other compact-hatchback choices, while the Swift and Eeco are entry-price alternatives that need exact-trim confirmation. These are manufacturer-listed prices checked on 2026-10-13, not city-specific on-road quotes. Your final amount will change after registration, road tax, insurance and selected extras.

First, define what “under ₹7 lakh” means

Car prices in India are commonly displayed ex-showroom. That is the price before the costs needed to register and use the car in your state. Maruti Suzuki’s model pages say the invoice-time price applies and describe on-road pricing as adding insurance, registration, road tax and chosen extras. Those items vary by state, city, insurer, registration category and dealer, so an ex-showroom shortlist cannot guarantee an on-road total below ₹7 lakh.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

This guide therefore uses ₹7 lakh as an ex-showroom ceiling. If you mean ₹7 lakh on-road, use the same models only as a starting point and ask a nearby dealer for a written quote for your exact city and variant. Renault’s 2026 Kwid benefits also have state exclusions and conditions, so the displayed offer must be checked locally before you treat it as a saving.

Verified petrol cars below the ex-showroom ceiling

The table separates a manufacturer-listed starting price from a confirmed variant range. A low entry price does not mean every trim or transmission remains below ₹7 lakh.

Model Manufacturer-listed petrol price evidence Transmission or configuration evidence How to treat it in a ₹7 lakh shortlist
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Std (O) MT ₹3,49,900; LXi (O) MT ₹3,82,400; VXi (O) MT ₹4,32,400; VXi (O) AGS ₹4,77,400; VXi+ (O) MT ₹4,82,400 Manual and AGS are listed in the cited range Most clearly documented lowest-price pick; compare the exact trim and equipment
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Petrol range from Std (O) MT ₹3,69,900 to VXi+ (O) AGS ₹5,44,900 Manual and AGS variants are listed Broad, well-documented range with room below the ceiling
Renault Kwid Range starts at ₹4,52,900 Evolution petrol configuration; manual and 1.0L AMT options shown Confirm exact AMT or manual trim and whether the 2026 offer applies in your state
Maruti Suzuki Celerio LXi MT ₹4,69,900; VXi MT ₹5,15,900; petrol AGS variants are also shown below ₹7 lakh Manual and AGS Useful alternative when the listed fuel-economy figures and a larger price buffer matter
Maruti Suzuki WagonR Starts at ₹4,98,900 Petrol and S-CNG; manual and automatic transmissions are listed Entry-price alternative; petrol trim-by-trim top price is not established here
Maruti Suzuki Swift Starts at ₹5,83,900 Petrol and S-CNG; manual and automatic transmissions are listed Entry-price alternative only; verify which petrol trims stay under ₹7 lakh
Maruti Suzuki Eeco Starts at ₹5,28,400 Petrol and S-CNG; manual transmission Consider for van-style practicality; confirm the precise petrol trim and intended use

All figures in the table are manufacturer-listed rupee prices checked on 2026-10-13. They are not independent market statistics, dealer promises or on-road prices.

The two price-led picks

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso: the lowest documented starting price

The S-Presso is the clearest answer to “which petrol car is cheapest under ₹7 lakh?” in this sourced list. Its Std (O) MT is listed at ₹3,49,900 ex-showroom. The documented petrol ladder is:

  • Std (O) MT — ₹3,49,900
  • LXi (O) MT — ₹3,82,400
  • VXi (O) MT — ₹4,32,400
  • VXi (O) AGS — ₹4,77,400
  • VXi+ (O) MT — ₹4,82,400

That spread leaves substantial headroom under ₹7 lakh on an ex-showroom basis, including for the listed AGS automatic. It does not tell you that the cheapest trim is the right purchase: the equipment included in Std (O), LXi (O), VXi (O) and VXi+ (O) differs, and the AGS price is tied to a particular VXi (O) configuration. Ask the dealer to print the feature list and final invoice for the exact trim rather than comparing a base manual with a better-equipped automatic.

Choose the S-Presso first when the priority is the lowest verified entry price or when you want an automatic option while preserving a large ex-showroom buffer. Confirm local stock, because a listed variant is not proof that every dealer has it immediately.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: the widest confirmed price span

The Alto K10 starts at ₹3,69,900 for the petrol Std (O) MT and reaches ₹5,44,900 for the petrol VXi+ (O) AGS on the cited manufacturer page. Manual and AGS variants are listed throughout the range. In other words, the documented top petrol price remains ₹1,55,100 below a ₹7 lakh ex-showroom limit.

The Alto K10 is consequently the more flexible price-led shortlist if you want to move up from the base trim without approaching the ceiling. The relevant comparison is not simply “Alto versus S-Presso”; it is Std (O) MT versus Std (O) MT, or VXi+ (O) AGS versus VXi (O) AGS, with each model’s equipment and invoice shown side by side. The manufacturer price page is the authority for the current invoice, so reconfirm it at the point of purchase.

For a buyer asking “Alto K10 or S-Presso?”, price alone gives the S-Presso the lower starting point, while the Alto K10 offers a separately documented range up to ₹5,44,900. The sensible decision is the exact trim, transmission and on-road quote that fits your use, not a universal winner.

Other compact petrol choices worth checking

Maruti Suzuki Celerio: published economy figures, not a real-world guarantee

The Celerio petrol range begins with the LXi MT at ₹4,69,900. The VXi MT is listed at ₹5,15,900, and the page also shows petrol AGS variants below ₹7 lakh. Maruti publishes 25.24 km/l for the LXi MT and 26.00 km/l for the VXi AGS. Those are manufacturer-claimed fuel-efficiency figures; they are not independently tested results and should not be used as a promise of the mileage you will obtain in traffic, with passengers or with air-conditioning.

Celerio makes sense for a buyer who wants a compact petrol hatchback but prefers to compare a mid-range manual or an AGS while retaining an ex-showroom buffer. Check whether the specific AGS trim you want remains below your limit in the current price list, then obtain a city quote. Do not transfer the LXi MT’s 25.24 km/l figure to the AGS or to another trim.

Renault Kwid: an independently priced alternative with time-sensitive benefits

Renault’s Kwid 2026 page states that the range starts at ₹4,52,900. Its official configurator shows petrol Evolution configurations, with manual and 1.0L AMT powertrain options. The 2026 page also advertises benefits of up to ₹15,000 plus a scrappage exchange benefit, subject to terms.

The displayed offer specifically excludes Kerala, Assam, Karnataka, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Treat both the benefit and its geographic scope as time-sensitive: ask the dealer to confirm eligibility, documentation, expiry and whether the benefit changes the invoice or is settled separately. The starting price does not establish that every manual or AMT configuration fits below ₹7 lakh, so quote the exact Evolution variant.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR: entry price with more configuration checking required

The WagonR manufacturer page starts at ₹4,98,900 and lists petrol and S-CNG powertrains with manual and automatic transmissions. The cited overview does not provide the petrol trim-by-trim top price. That means it is reasonable to investigate the WagonR as a petrol entry-price alternative, but not to claim that every petrol or automatic version is under ₹7 lakh.

When contacting a dealer, specify “petrol,” the desired transmission and the exact trim code. Ask for the ex-showroom line, insurance, registration, road tax, accessories and any discount as separate lines. This prevents a CNG or automatic quotation from being mistaken for the petrol manual you intended to compare.

Entry-price alternatives that need trim verification

Maruti Suzuki Swift

The Swift manufacturer page lists petrol and S-CNG versions, manual and automatic transmissions, and a starting price of ₹5,83,900. The cited overview does not establish which petrol trims remain below ₹7 lakh. Treat ₹5,83,900 as an entry price, not as proof that a preferred Swift automatic or higher trim qualifies. Request a current petrol variant sheet before including it in a strict shortlist.

Maruti Suzuki Eeco

The Eeco starts at ₹5,28,400 and is listed with petrol and S-CNG powertrains and a manual transmission. Its van-style packaging may suit a buyer who prioritises carrying capacity or a practical people-moving layout over a conventional hatchback shape. The evidence here does not identify every petrol trim or its equipment, so confirm the exact version, seating configuration, registration category and intended use with an authorised seller.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which automatic petrol cars can fit?

Automatic availability is confirmed in the cited ranges or configurators for the S-Presso, Alto K10, Kwid and Celerio. The S-Presso VXi (O) AGS is listed at ₹4,77,400, while the Alto K10 range reaches ₹5,44,900 for the VXi+ (O) AGS. Celerio petrol AGS versions are shown below ₹7 lakh, and Renault’s Kwid configurator shows a 1.0L AMT option.

Those facts establish availability, not a blanket automatic price for every trim. Use this three-part check:

  1. Write down the exact automatic name, such as AGS or AMT, and the trim level.
  2. Confirm the current ex-showroom price on the manufacturer or dealer invoice.
  3. Add your city’s registration, road tax, insurance and only the accessories you actually want before deciding whether ₹7 lakh still works on-road.

WagonR and Swift pages mention automatic transmissions, but the cited overview does not prove which petrol automatic trims stay under the ceiling. Eeco is listed with manual transmission in the cited material.

How to compare two cars without mixing unlike trims

A common mistake is to compare the cheapest S-Presso with a higher Alto K10, or a manual Celerio with an automatic Kwid, and then call the model “better.” Build a like-for-like worksheet instead:

  • Fuel: petrol only. Exclude S-CNG versions when you are comparing petrol ownership.
  • Transmission: manual with manual, AGS/AMT with AGS/AMT.
  • Trim: record the complete variant name, including “(O),” VXi, LXi or VXi+ where applicable.
  • Price basis: keep ex-showroom figures together and calculate on-road totals separately.
  • Equipment: copy the current manufacturer feature list; do not infer equipment from the model name.
  • Body and use: decide whether a compact hatchback, a taller hatchback or a van-style Eeco layout matches your passengers, parking and cargo needs.
  • Local transaction: verify stock, waiting time, delivery month, insurance choice and dealer-installed accessories.

Price pages alone cannot establish a definitive ranking for safety, reliability, resale value, after-sales quality, ride comfort or real-world fuel economy. Those decisions require comparable, current evidence beyond the figures listed here.

Calculate the budget the right way

For a realistic ceiling, use this worksheet for every candidate:

Line item What to enter Why it matters
Ex-showroom price The manufacturer-listed price for your exact petrol trim and transmission Base figure used in this guide
Registration and road tax Your state and registration category amount Varies by location and vehicle rules
Insurance The policy and insurer selected Dealer and independent quotes can differ
Mandatory or chosen extras Accessories, extended warranty or other selected items Optional additions can push an on-road total upward
Discounts or benefits Only written, eligible offers for your state and date Offers can expire or have exclusions
Final on-road total Sum of the invoice and applicable charges The number to compare with an on-road ₹7 lakh ceiling

If your limit is strictly on-road, start with the dealer’s final total and work backward. A car listed at ₹6.9 lakh ex-showroom may exceed ₹7 lakh on-road, while a car around ₹4–5 lakh ex-showroom leaves more room for registration and insurance. Do not assume the difference is the same in every city.

Step-by-step buying process

  1. Set the price basis. Write “₹7 lakh ex-showroom” or “₹7 lakh on-road” at the top of your comparison sheet.
  2. Shortlist two or three exact variants. For example, compare S-Presso VXi (O) AGS with Alto K10 VXi+ (O) AGS, or compare similarly priced manual trims.
  3. Check the current manufacturer page. Prices are dated list figures; Maruti notes that invoice-time prices prevail.
  4. Ask for a written local quote. Require separate lines for ex-showroom, registration, road tax, insurance, accessories, discounts and final on-road total.
  5. Validate offers. For Kwid, confirm your state is not among the 2026 exclusions and verify the conditions for the advertised benefit or scrappage exchange.
  6. Match equipment to your needs. Compare the exact feature lists rather than assuming a higher price automatically includes a particular item.
  7. Confirm fuel and transmission on the invoice. This avoids confusing petrol with S-CNG or a manual with an automatic configuration.
  8. Recheck before payment. Ask the dealer to confirm price validity, manufacturing or delivery timing, insurance choice, registration estimate and any change since the quote date.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Calling an ex-showroom price “on-road”

Correct the wording in your notes and advertisements. The manufacturer-listed ₹3,49,900 S-Presso price, for example, is not a promise that a buyer can register and drive it away for ₹3,49,900. Registration, tax, insurance and extras are outside that displayed figure.

Assuming every trim fits because the model starts below ₹7 lakh

Alto K10 has a documented petrol range from ₹3,69,900 to ₹5,44,900, but Swift, WagonR and Eeco are only documented here by starting prices. Even where a model has a low entry price, the automatic or top trim may cost more. Verify the variant, not just the badge.

Using claimed mileage as a guarantee

The Celerio figures of 25.24 km/l for LXi MT and 26.00 km/l for VXi AGS are manufacturer-published claims. They are useful for understanding what the page reports, but they are not independent tests and do not predict every driver’s result.

Counting a promotion without checking eligibility

Renault’s Kwid 2026 benefits are conditional and exclude nine listed states. A dealer must confirm whether the offer applies to your state, vehicle, exchange documentation and purchase date. Treat a promotional amount as zero until eligibility is written into the quote.

Turning a shortlist into a safety or reliability ranking

The price and configuration evidence does not support a definitive ranking for safety, reliability, resale, comfort or after-sales service. Keep those questions separate and seek comparable current information before making a claim or decision.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line for a ₹7 lakh petrol-car search

For the lowest verified ex-showroom price, start with the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso at ₹3,49,900, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 at ₹3,69,900. The Alto K10 has the clearest documented petrol range up to ₹5,44,900, including an AGS variant. Celerio adds published manufacturer fuel-economy figures and petrol AGS choices; Kwid offers another compact option with a time-sensitive, location-limited 2026 benefit; WagonR, Swift and Eeco deserve dealer checks as entry-price alternatives rather than automatic inclusions in a confirmed under-₹7-lakh trim list.

Use the exact petrol variant, transmission and local on-road quote as your decision point. Reconfirm every price and offer with a nearby authorised dealer because the figures checked on 2026-10-13 are dated manufacturer listings, not locked transaction prices.
