That account is not a legal finding: the report and the available footage description do not establish who was at fault. Western Australian rules require drivers entering a roundabout to give way to vehicles already on it, follow marked arrows and use lanes consistently.
What the PerthNow report says happened
Reporter Rachel Fenner reported that dashcam footage shared by Adrian Douglas showed a white car approaching a roundabout in the left lane and a grey car approaching in the right lane. The report says the white car moved toward the right lane while the grey car attempted to turn into the left exit lane; the vehicles then stopped after their bumpers made contact. Read the PerthNow report.
The headline’s judgmental description is the outlet’s framing, not a finding about legal responsibility. The report does not establish the drivers’ identities, whether anyone was injured, the exact road markings at the scene, or a determination of fault. It identifies dashcam footage as the record of the event, but does not name a camera model or claim that dashcams prevent collisions.
What Western Australian rules require
Regulation 95 of the Road Traffic Code 2000 states: “A driver entering a roundabout must give way to a vehicle that is within the roundabout.” The Code also requires drivers to obey marked lane arrows and signal before changing lanes in a roundabout. The Road Traffic Code 2000, Part 9 contains the statutory wording.

This is upscaled 4K, not native 4K, engineered to show sharper everyday detail than standard 1080P dash cams, so you can read license plates, signs, and surroundings in front and rear footage.
- SONY STARVIS 2 IMX675 SENSOR + SUPER NIGHT VISION: The front camera uses a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 5MP image sensor with a wide F1.5 aperture (F1.8 rear) and HDR to pull in more light for clearer low-light footage. This advanced sensor enhances nighttime clarity, helping capture license plates, road signs, and surrounding vehicles with greater reliability when driving after dark, through tunnels, or in dusk and dawn conditions.

The Road Safety Commission’s roundabout guidance explains how to apply those rules by intended direction. Drivers must also follow the arrows and markings at the particular roundabout.
Turning left
- Approach from the left lane, stay in that lane and exit from it.
Going straight ahead
- You may enter from either lane. Stay in and exit from the same lane.
Turning right or making a full turn
- Approach from the right lane, remain in it and exit from that lane.
- If practicable, indicate left after passing the exit before the one you intend to take.
Changing lanes within a roundabout
- Signal before changing lanes and give way to other vehicles, as explained in the Road Safety Commission guidance.
Why the report alone cannot settle fault
The report describes the cars’ movements and bumper contact, but it does not supply enough detail to apply the rules conclusively to either driver. A legal assessment would need to establish matters such as the precise markings, each vehicle’s position and movement, and the timing of the manoeuvres. The footage’s existence does not, by itself, amount to a legal finding.
