Pegasus E: Nevada’s Roadable VTOL ‘Flying Car’ Handles Like a Go-Kart and Hovers Like a Helicopter

The Pegasus E is a roadable hybrid VTOL rotorcraft behind the Nevada flying-car headlines. Here is what its kart-track footage, claimed specifications, FAA status and comparison with Jetson ONE actually show.

The Nevada “flying car” is the Pegasus E, a compact, piloted rotorcraft that drives on wheels, folds its rotor blades for road travel and takes off vertically. It is better understood as a small helicopter adapted for road use than as a conventional car with wings.

The go-kart claim comes from a closed-course demonstration, not independent handling testing. And despite Pegasus’s move toward Las Vegas, the available evidence does not establish unrestricted Nevada road legality or completed FAA approval for the Pegasus E.

The vehicle in the footage is the Pegasus E, a compact, piloted rotorcraft that can travel on wheels and take off vertically. It is closer to a small helicopter adapted for road use than to a conventional car that happens to fly.

The “go-kart” comparison comes from a demonstration on a kart track, where the Pegasus vehicle was shown cornering and sliding. Its helicopter comparison is more literal: the aircraft uses a coaxial rotor system for vertical flight. But the important reality check is that the available evidence does not establish the Pegasus E as an FAA-approved, unrestricted street-legal vehicle in Nevada—or as an autonomous aircraft that anyone can drive and fly from anywhere.

Why Nevada is part of the story

Pegasus began as an Australian flying-car project. The company says development started in 2009; New Atlas reported that early prototypes were first flown around 2016 and that the enclosed Pegasus E appeared in 2021.

In April 2024, Pegasus Aerospace Corporation was incorporated in Nevada. Company-related material describes a move of its design, production and sales headquarters to Las Vegas. That is the basis for the Nevada angle in the headline. It does not, by itself, mean the aircraft was already being mass-produced in Nevada, approved for Nevada airspace or registered for ordinary Nevada roads.

Pegasus markets the machine as the Pegasus E and, in some company material, as the “Air Ferrari.” Its central promise is unusually specific: a vehicle that can fit in a standard parking space or garage, drive to a suitable launch area, then transition into vertical flight.

What the demonstration actually shows

The Pegasus E has a compact wheeled chassis surrounding its flight hardware. On the ground, it is driven using car-like controls: a steering wheel and pedals. In flight, it uses rotorcraft controls, including a cyclic. An earlier company document says the steering wheel and cyclic can retract, separating the driving and flight-control arrangements.

The rotor blades fold or retract for road travel. Pegasus materials describe a one-touch transition between driving and flight modes. New Atlas reported a claimed transition time of about three seconds. An earlier company document gives six seconds for a police configuration. Those figures should not be combined into one definitive specification: they may refer to different versions or revisions of the aircraft.

The kart-track footage is useful because it demonstrates that the Pegasus can be driven and maneuvered on a closed course. New Atlas described the vehicle as handling like a go-kart, and the footage shows aggressive cornering and sliding. However, “go-kart handling” is a journalistic description, not an independent vehicle-dynamics result. The available research contains no third-party lap time, braking test, skid-pad measurement or professional handling evaluation.

In other words, the footage supports a narrower claim: Pegasus demonstrated its roadable aircraft on a kart track. It does not prove that the vehicle would handle like a competition kart in normal traffic, nor does it establish crash performance, braking distances or road manners.

How the Pegasus E flies

The aircraft uses a helicopter-style coaxial rotor arrangement. Coaxial rotors place two rotor systems on the same vertical axis and turn in opposite directions, allowing the aircraft to produce lift without relying on a conventional tail rotor. The compact arrangement helps Pegasus combine flight hardware with a road-going chassis, although the published material does not provide enough independent engineering data to assess the design’s efficiency or handling in flight.

The Pegasus E is described as hybrid-powered or plug-in hybrid rather than as a short-range, battery-only eVTOL. Company material says it uses liquid fuel to provide longer endurance than many small electric personal-aircraft concepts. That is the reason Pegasus emphasizes hours of flight rather than merely minutes of hovering.

The vehicle remains piloted. The researched sources describe helicopter-style controls, pilot licensing and training—not autonomous operation. A driver would therefore need to deal with two different operating environments: road rules and aircraft rules.

Pegasus E performance claims

The published numbers point to a vehicle that is fast for a small personal aircraft and unusually capable on paper for a roadable machine. They are not, however, independent test results. The following figures should be read as claims attributed to Pegasus or as figures reported by New Atlas.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Specification Published figure Important qualification
Top flight speed About 160 km/h, or 100 mph Consistent across the researched descriptions; no independent performance validation was located.
Road speed About 120 km/h, or 75 mph A claimed road limit, not evidence of public-road approval or suitability for highway traffic.
Flight endurance Approximately three hours No independent endurance flight, fuel-burn test or standardized methodology was provided.
Range About 420 km in New Atlas reporting; up to 480 km in an earlier company financing document The difference may reflect a variant or different assumptions. The sources do not establish a single standardized range figure.
Dry weight About 265 kg Reported by New Atlas for the described vehicle; configuration and equipment can affect operating weight.
Payload Approximately 101 kg in New Atlas reporting; 117 kg for the E-Class specification in company material These should be treated as source- or variant-specific figures rather than one confirmed payload rating.
Estimated ceiling About 1,800 m A published estimate, not a reported independent altitude test.

Range and endurance are especially easy to overread. A three-hour endurance claim does not tell a buyer how much reserve fuel is required, how the aircraft performs in wind, how much road driving is included, or how payload affects fuel consumption. The available reporting does not supply a standardized test profile or third-party fuel-burn data.

The major caveat: flying-car status is not the same as approval

There are several separate permissions involved in a roadable aircraft, and none should be inferred from the company’s Las Vegas move or from a successful demonstration.

  • Aircraft airworthiness: whether the aircraft design and individual aircraft satisfy the applicable aviation requirements.
  • Pilot qualification: whether the person operating it has the required helicopter or other aircraft privileges and training.
  • Road registration: whether the wheeled vehicle is certified, registered, insured and equipped for public roads in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Operating area: whether the pilot may use the intended airspace and whether the launch and landing site is permitted.
  • Insurance and local permissions: whether aviation and road insurance are available and whether local authorities allow the proposed operation.

What Pegasus says about Australia

Pegasus company materials state that E models obtained airworthiness registration in Australia through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, or CASA, and could be flown under Australian rules by appropriately licensed helicopter pilots. That is a company-reported Australian status, not proof of approval in the United States.

The same earlier company material described VicRoads road certification as being in progress and said the vehicles could be driven on private roads. Private-road use is materially different from unrestricted public-road registration. Nothing in that information supports the idea that an owner could simply collect a Pegasus E, drive it on Nevada streets and take off from a neighborhood.

What is known about U.S. FAA status

The earlier Pegasus financing document and a Nevada corporate filing describe preparation for the FAA airworthiness process. The researched material did not locate a completed FAA airworthiness approval for the Pegasus E.

The FAA’s 2025 MOSAIC final rule is relevant background, but it does not automatically certify this aircraft. MOSAIC expands light-sport flexibility and can encompass rotorcraft and powered-lift aircraft when the aircraft meets the applicable performance, design, production and airworthiness requirements. A regulatory framework that may accommodate a category is not the same thing as a completed approval for a particular model.

That distinction matters for buyers. “FAA process,” “FAA-eligible,” “prepared for FAA registration” and “FAA-approved” are not interchangeable descriptions. The last one would require a specific, current approval or certification record—not merely a company plan or a rule that could potentially apply.

Can you buy one?

Pegasus’s financing document describes a direct-sales model that would include customer training, operating documentation, airworthiness paperwork, post-sale service and maintenance. It also gives an approximate historical single-seat retail figure of about $180,000.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That figure should not be treated as a current U.S. list price. The available material does not establish a current public checkout, confirmed U.S. delivery schedule, inventory, final configuration or complete ownership cost. Training, insurance, storage, maintenance, fuel, road certification and aviation operating expenses could all materially change the cost of ownership.

Company-related material also reports a 300-unit distribution agreement with Aeroauto, initially involving 30 units in 2025. The existence and current status of that arrangement, along with pricing, delivery timing and U.S. regulatory position, should be confirmed directly before treating it as an available retail channel.

Where the technology stands

For readers tracking the project, the Pegasus E flying car is the relevant product name, while Pegasus Aerospace is the company associated with the Nevada move. The technology is real enough to have been demonstrated as a roadable, vertical-takeoff aircraft, but the public information still leaves major questions about U.S. certification, public-road registration, production scale, delivery and everyday operation.

That makes the Pegasus E more useful as a technology and regulatory story than as an ordinary new-car shopping recommendation. A prospective buyer would need a current manufacturer quote, a specific aircraft configuration, proof of the applicable airworthiness status, pilot-training requirements, road-registration information and an explanation of where the aircraft could legally take off and land.

Pegasus E versus Jetson ONE

The Jetson ONE personal aircraft is a useful comparison because it is also sold to individual customers, but it takes almost the opposite engineering approach. Jetson ONE is a lightweight, eight-motor electric personal eVTOL. Pegasus prioritizes roadability and longer claimed endurance through a hybrid configuration.

Pegasus E Jetson ONE
Basic concept Roadable, helicopter-style VTOL aircraft with wheels and folding or retracting rotor blades Personal electric eVTOL with eight motors; not presented as a conventional road car
Published flight time or endurance About three hours claimed About 20 minutes listed by Jetson
Published top speed About 160 km/h in flight; about 120 km/h on the road 102 km/h, software-limited
Payload or pilot limit Published figures vary from about 101 to 117 kg payload depending on source or specification 95 kg maximum pilot weight listed by Jetson
Safety features publicly listed Detailed independent safety validation was not located in the researched material Motor redundancy, automatic landing and a ballistic parachute are listed by Jetson
Price and delivery information Earlier company document: approximately $180,000 for a single-seat configuration; current U.S. price and delivery not verified Official order information lists $148,000 before taxes and fees, an $8,000 non-refundable down payment and estimated delivery in 2028; Jetson says 2026 and 2027 production is sold out

The price comparison is not perfectly like-for-like. The Pegasus figure is historical and configuration-specific, while the Jetson figure is a current listing that may change. Neither aircraft is equivalent to buying a normal car, and neither removes the need to understand pilot qualification, operating restrictions, insurance and local aviation rules.

What would make the Pegasus E practical?

The most important milestone is not another dramatic track video. It is a complete, verifiable operating package.

  1. U.S. airworthiness pathway: a clearly identified FAA approval, certificate or accepted operating category for the exact Pegasus model and configuration.
  2. Road certification: a documented answer for whether, where and how the aircraft can be registered for public-road use.
  3. Production evidence: a current price, delivery schedule, parts and maintenance plan, and evidence that the company can build aircraft consistently.
  4. Pilot and owner requirements: training, medical or licensing requirements, recurrent training and operating limitations.
  5. Real-world performance data: independently verifiable endurance, range, payload, braking, transition and handling results.
  6. Operating infrastructure: practical guidance on storage, fueling, charging if applicable, approved launch sites and emergency procedures.

Until those pieces are available, the Pegasus E remains an intriguing integration of two difficult machines: a road vehicle and a vertical-lift aircraft. Its hybrid powertrain addresses one weakness of small battery-only aircraft—short flight time—while its wheels and folding rotors address the problem of getting from a garage to a launch point. But those same features also create additional certification, maintenance and operating questions.

Bottom line

The Pegasus E is not vaporware in the narrow sense: it has been demonstrated driving on a track and operating as a vertical-takeoff aircraft. The notable achievement is fitting a piloted coaxial-rotor aircraft into a roadable package with claimed three-hour endurance. The unresolved question is whether Pegasus can turn that demonstration into a reliably produced aircraft that is approved, insurable and legally usable on U.S. roads and in U.S. airspace.

So watch the footage for what it proves—a compact aircraft can drive, corner and transition to flight—not for what it does not prove. Nevada headquarters do not equal Nevada street legality, a company’s published specifications do not equal independent testing, and a possible FAA pathway does not equal FAA approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Pegasus E FAA-approved?

Not based on the available evidence. Pegasus company material describes preparation for the FAA airworthiness process, but the researched sources did not identify a completed FAA airworthiness approval for the Pegasus E.

Can you drive the Pegasus E on Nevada streets?

There is no evidence in the supplied research that it has unrestricted public-road registration in Nevada. Earlier company material described Australian road certification as in progress and private-road driving as possible. Road registration is separate from aircraft airworthiness.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How fast and how far can the Pegasus E travel?

Pegasus claims about 160 km/h in flight, 120 km/h on the road and approximately three hours of flight endurance. New Atlas reported about 420 km of range, while an earlier company document lists up to 480 km for an E-Class specification. These figures are not independent test results and may describe different configurations.

How is the Pegasus E different from Jetson ONE?

Jetson ONE is an eight-motor electric personal eVTOL with about 20 minutes of listed flight time, a software-limited 102 km/h top speed and a 95 kg maximum pilot weight. Pegasus emphasizes roadability and hybrid-powered endurance instead. Jetson’s official order page lists $148,000 before taxes and fees and estimated delivery in 2028, while Pegasus’s approximately $180,000 figure is an older, single-seat company estimate.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Pegasus E is a roadable, piloted hybrid VTOL rotorcraft—not yet an ordinary FAA-approved, unrestricted Nevada flying car. Its kart-track driving and claimed three-hour endurance are notable, but U.S. certification, public-road registration, production and everyday operating permissions remain the key unanswered questions.
