The reported revision applied in Pakistan and was announced from Islamabad. Dawn said the rates were in effect for the week ending April 24, 2026. The figures below describe that review period only.

The diesel figures do not all reconcile: Rs 385.54 minus Rs 32.12 equals Rs 353.42, matching Dawn’s report. Dunya News and Geo News gave the new rate as Rs 353.43 while also reporting a Rs 32.12 reduction. Why diesel fell—and what the timing means
Dawn linked the decision to easing global oil prices amid the US-Iran ceasefire context. It also reported that a last-minute reopening of the Strait of Hormuz triggered a further 12–13% fall in global oil prices after the prime minister had approved the diesel reduction. That later plunge was therefore not reflected in the approved April 18 cut.

Geo News reported that, by 10:50 a.m. EDT (14:50 GMT) on April 17, Brent crude futures had fallen $12.87, or 12.95%, to $86.52 a barrel. It reported US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) down 14.26% to $81.19 a barrel. These were dated market snapshots, not current oil quotes or direct measures of what consumers would pay at the pump.
In Geo’s report on uncertainty over tanker movements through the Strait, UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo said: “Comments from Iran’s foreign minister indicate a de-escalation as long as the ceasefire is in place, now we need to see if the number of tankers crossing the Strait increases substantially.” The comment was market context, not an official explanation of Pakistan’s price decision. How large was the reduction?
Dawn cited Rs 520.35 per litre as the HSD peak on April 10, 2026. The April 18 reported rate of Rs 353.42 was lower, but the April 18 decision itself was a Rs 32.12 cut from the immediately preceding reported rate of Rs 385.54. The peak and the weekly reduction describe different comparisons.
Are these Pakistan’s current fuel prices?
No. The rates in this report belong to the April 18, 2026 revision and the period ending April 24. OGRA’s index lists later petroleum-price notices, including one dated October 3, as well as revisions after April; the April rates should not be presented as today’s prices. What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The government presented the HSD reduction as a consumer-relief measure, but the reported price change alone does not establish that fares, freight charges, or food prices fell. Those downstream outcomes are not shown by the cited price reports.
