Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, died after an 11-rider crash during the British Supersport race at Oulton Park on 5 May 2025. The incident happened at Old Hall corner on the first lap. The race was stopped, and the rest of the British Superbike Championship meeting was cancelled.
What happened at Oulton Park?
During the opening lap of the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race, riders were exiting turn one, Old Hall corner, when an incident involving 11 riders falling occurred. The series organizer, MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR), described it as a chain reaction. Its statement on 5 May 2025 said trackside medical services responded and the race was stopped.
The incident took place at a British Superbike Championship meeting, but the race itself was in the British Supersport support class—not the headline Superbike class. MSVR cancelled the remainder of the meeting, saying the decision was due to the incident’s severity and ongoing medical intervention.
Who was killed, and who else was injured?
Owen Jenner
MSVR said Jenner, 21, was treated at the track and taken to the circuit medical centre. He died there despite resuscitation treatment, having suffered a catastrophic head injury. BBC Sport reported that Jenner was from Crowborough, East Sussex, had won the 2024 British GP2 title, and had signed for Rapid Honda.

Shane Richardson
Richardson, 29, was treated at the track and medical centre before being transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital with severe chest injuries. He died before arriving at the hospital, according to MSVR. BBC Sport identified him as a New Zealander racing for Astro-JJR Hippo Suzuki; its explainer reported that he grew up near Wellington before moving to the UK.
Other riders
MSVR said Tom Tunstall had significant back and abdominal injuries and was transferred to hospital. A BBC Sport report published on 6 May 2025 said Tunstall had a broken neck and was in serious but stable condition at that time; that is a dated update, not a current medical report. Five other riders were taken to the circuit medical centre with minor injuries that did not require hospital transfer, and three more were uninjured.

What is known about the crash sequence?
MSVR’s immediate statement established the location, first-lap timing, and number of riders who fell, but did not give a detailed account of how the incident unfolded. ITV News reported on 14 January 2026 that an inquest hearing was told Richardson lost control after over-acceleration and over-correction, and that Jenner could not avoid riders ahead. That is reporting on evidence heard at a hearing, not a final coroner’s finding. No final ruling or full official technical reconstruction is established in the reporting cited here.

Medical teams treated the injured riders at the circuit; the incident’s consequences led MSVR to cancel the rest of the day’s British Superbike Championship event. BBC Sport reported that series director Stuart Higgs described the incident as “severe and catastrophic” when announcing the cancellation.

BBC Sport also quoted injured rider Morgan McLaren-Wood saying “there was nothing anyone could do” to prevent the tragedy. That was his personal account, not an investigation conclusion.
