During Formula One’s 2020 COVID-19 shutdown, Daniel Ricciardo stayed at his farm in Western Australia and followed a training program with his trainer. He said he wanted to be ready when racing resumed, while expecting the season’s events might be compressed into the remaining months of the year.
Ricciardo kept training while F1 was paused
Ricciardo, then a Renault F1 Team driver, said the break was not a holiday. He was working through a program with his trainer, whom the report identifies only as Michael, so he could be prepared when racing returned.
“When I do get that call I want to be ready, so I am certainly am not treating it as a holiday,”
He described the farm as a quiet setting with animals: “I am in complete serenity, surrounded by a few animals.” The West Australian’s report does not identify the farm’s town or provide a more precise location.

What Ricciardo expected about the F1 restart
Ricciardo hoped the season could start again in June, but said a later restart seemed possible. He anticipated organisers would try to fit as many events as they could in before the end of the year. These were his views during the 2020 interruption, not an official calendar announcement.
“I would love June to happen. That is the perfect world, but I think it’s going to be later than that. We’ve got time.”
