The latest monthly gain was 13.2%, but that streak is about retail sales—not total sales, revenue, market share, or every Nissan model. In the third quarter, Nissan Division retail sales rose 6.8%, while total sales were nearly flat.
What Nissan’s 19-month sales streak measures
The streak counts consecutive months in which Nissan’s U.S. retail sales were higher than in the same month a year earlier. Nissan reported that September 2026 marked the 19th such month, with retail sales up 13.2% year over year. These figures come from Nissan North America’s October 1, 2026 sales release.
Retail sales are not the same as total sales. Because the streak refers specifically to retail sales, it should not be read as evidence that Nissan’s total U.S. sales rose at the same pace. Nissan’s quarterly results illustrate the difference.
Q3 retail sales grew faster than total sales
For July through September 2026, Nissan reported separate results for the Nissan Division and Nissan Group. Group figures include INFINITI, so they are not interchangeable with Nissan Division figures.

Which Nissan models grew in Q3?
Growth was not uniform across the lineup. Nissan reported strong year-over-year retail gains for the Rogue and Frontier, while results across other models were mixed.

What Nissan says is behind the shift
Nissan says it is prioritizing retail customers and reducing reliance on rental-fleet volume. The company reported that rental-fleet sales fell 45% year over year in Q3 and were down 33% year to date. Those are Nissan’s figures and explanation of its strategy; they do not independently establish why consumer demand changed.

Tiago Castro, Nissan and INFINITI senior vice president of U.S. Marketing & Sales, said: “The most important part of this story isn’t simply that we’re growing, it’s how we’re growing,” according to the company’s release. The statement frames Nissan’s emphasis on the composition of sales, rather than volume alone.

Nissan’s release also describes the company as the “fastest-growing mainstream automotive brand” for a 13-month period. That is Nissan’s characterization, not a claim that it led every brand, every segment, or total-market growth over the entire 19-month retail streak. The 19-month figure is the consecutive retail-sales-growth measure; the 13-month figure is a separate claim in the release.
