The Nissan Titan has two generations: the first covers model years 2004–2015, and the second covers 2016–2024. The 2008 and 2020 model years brought refreshes, not new generations. Nissan says 2024 was the Titan’s final production year.
Nissan Titan generation years at a glance
| Generation | Model years | Update |
|---|---|---|
| First generation (A60) | 2004–2015 | 2008 refresh |
| Second generation (A61) | 2016–2024 | 2020 refresh |
The year ranges and refresh labels are reported in the Nissan Titan model-history overview. Nissan’s official pages confirm the original 2004 model and the 2024 final-year status, but do not publish a complete year-by-year chronology.
What changed between the generations?
First generation: 2004–2015
The Titan debuted for the 2004 model year. Nissan’s launch press kit describes the Crew Cab with a 5.6-liter Endurance V8 rated at 305 horsepower and 379 lb-ft of torque, paired with a standard five-speed automatic. It lists towing of up to 9,400 pounds when properly equipped. These are launch-era figures for the described 2004 Crew Cab, not specifications for every Titan year or configuration. The press kit record is dated June 1, 2010, though it describes the 2004 model.
The launch-era equipment summary also mentions a factory-applied spray-in bedliner, Utili-track bed-channel tie-down system, and lockable bedside storage. Those details likewise should not be assumed to apply to every later model. See Nissan’s 2004 Titan Crew Cab press kit for the original specifications.

Second generation: 2016–2024
The second generation began with the 2016 model year and received a refresh for 2020. The refresh does not create a third generation. Features and specifications should still be checked against the individual model year, trim, cab, drivetrain, and equipment; the generation label alone does not establish them.
2024 Titan and Titan XD: different capacity figures
Nissan lists both 2024 versions with a 5.6-liter V8 and nine-speed automatic. Its figures are lineup maximums, not ratings guaranteed for every truck:

| 2024 version | Maximum towing | Maximum payload |
|---|---|---|
| Titan | 9,290 lb | 1,600 lb |
| Titan XD | 11,050 lb | 2,360 lb |
Nissan describes the XD’s frame as larger and extensively reinforced. For a specific truck, verify the exact configuration and consult its door-jamb labels and towing documentation rather than relying on the lineup maximum. The figures and frame description are Nissan’s specifications on its discontinued Titan and Titan XD page.
When was the last Nissan Titan made?
Nissan identifies 2024 as the final production year for both the Titan and Titan XD and labels the models no longer in production. That makes 2024 the last Titan model year; it is not a third generation or a separate version of the truck.
How to use the generation years when comparing trucks or parts
Compare the actual model year and configuration
Use the generation split as a starting point, then check the exact year, cab, drivetrain, trim, and equipment. Towing, payload, and component fitment can vary with configuration. A generation range is not a substitute for a vehicle-specific rating or fitment confirmation.
Confirm parts fitment by year
Nissan’s Titan OEM parts catalog allows selection by model year and shows how fitment can differ: its catalog lists a differential assembly for 2004–2015 and a radiator shutter assembly for 2016–2019. Before ordering replacement parts, match the vehicle’s year and configuration and confirm the listed application or part number. A part shown for one span should not be assumed to fit every Titan.
