Why is the R35 GT-R different from the Skyline GT-R?
The R35 arrived as the Nissan GT-R, without “Skyline” in its name. What made the R35 GT-R special?
The early R35’s engineering combined a twin-turbo V6 with a drivetrain layout that set it apart from a conventional front-engine, front-transmission arrangement. These are Nissan’s figures for the documented 2007 model, not specifications for the final 2025 car. The heritage record captures the launch-era engineering snapshot; it does not establish a complete account of later revisions or final-edition equipment.
What the production farewell does—and does not—tell us
The end of production marks the close of the R35’s run at Tochigi, while its significance rests in the combination Nissan introduced: a standalone GT-R identity, a powerful twin-turbo V6, and a rear-mounted dual-clutch transaxle integrated with 4WD. Nissan’s cited records establish that history and the early model’s specifications, but do not give a lifetime production total, a final-edition specification sheet, or a verified performance-record comparison.
