What happens after 2027 has not been confirmed in the official material reviewed. The Murano’s history runs from a design-led 2003 crossover to a fourth-generation model introduced for 2025.
How the Murano began
Nissan says the Murano went on sale in December 2002 as a 2003 model, developed, designed and engineered specifically for North America. It was the company’s first entry into the crossover-SUV segment. The launch model used a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 245 horsepower and Nissan’s Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Nissan’s 2003 Murano press kit documents those launch details.
The name and styling were part of the idea: Nissan’s retrospective says the original Murano drew inspiration from Italian Murano glassware. The company dates its first three generations to model years 2003, 2009 and 2015. For the third generation, introduced for 2015, Nissan drew on its Resonance concept. Nissan’s 2015 press kit describes that design lineage.
In the 2015 release, Nissan’s then-Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura explained the concept-to-production approach: “At Nissan, we create concept vehicles with an eye toward production, rather than just for entertaining auto show audiences.”

The fourth generation: 2025 Murano
Nissan identifies the 2025 Murano as the fourth generation. Its powertrain marked a break from the launch model’s V6: the 2025 press material lists a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine producing 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Nissan also highlighted available ventilated, massaging front seats and two 12.3-inch displays. These are manufacturer specifications and feature descriptions, not independent road-test results. What changed for 2026
For the 2026 U.S. model year, Nissan listed SV, SL and Platinum grades, standard Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and available ProPILOT Assist 2.1 in the Platinum Technology package. Nissan announced a starting MSRP of $41,670. That is a manufacturer’s suggested retail price from its 2026 announcement, not a current dealer transaction price. What’s new for 2027
Nissan’s 2027 U.S. lineup consists of SL, Dark Armor and Platinum, all with AWD. Dark Armor is a new appearance grade, and Snow Mode is added across the grades. Nissan’s announcement says the 2027 Murano is on sale. The 2027 press kit describes the lineup and features.
Nissan announced these 2027 MSRPs before destination and handling; the release lists that charge as $1,575. The amounts are manufacturer suggested retail prices, not dealer quotes.

What is known—and unknown—about the Murano’s future
The confirmed near-term answer is model year 2027: Nissan has announced the lineup, features and pricing, and says the vehicle is on sale. The official Nissan material cited here does not announce a successor, discontinuation, hybrid or electric version, or model-year schedule after 2027. That means the Murano’s longer-term future remains unconfirmed; claims that it will definitely continue or end go beyond what Nissan has announced in these sources.

A practical note for 2027 shoppers
Nissan’s 2027 press kit lists a cargo package with a cargo-area protector, cargo net and cargo cover. If you are shopping for a cargo mat or other protection, confirm that the specific item fits your model year and trim before buying; the press kit does not establish the fitment of third-party listings.
