The Bulgari Octo Retro Maserati GrandSport and GrandLusso are two 2017 watches built around a jumping-hour display and retrograde indication. Bulgari Japan identified them as references SAP102717 and SAP102906 and announced them on September 12, 2017, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The official launch name was Octo Retro Maserati; “Mono-Retro” describes the display style, rather than the name used in that release.
They are historical models, but the available official material does not establish when production ended or whether either is currently available. The key distinction is material: the GrandSport has a black DLC-treated steel case, while the GrandLusso is made in 18K pink gold.
How the GrandSport and GrandLusso differ
Bulgari Japan’s November 28, 2017 announcement gives the two models the same movement, dimensions and core functions. Their cases, appearance and original Japanese list prices set them apart.

What the jumping-hour and retrograde display means
The BVL262 combines a jumping hour with a retrograde indication. A jumping-hour display shows the hour in a window and advances it in a discrete step when the hour changes; a retrograde hand travels along an arc, then returns to its starting point instead of completing a full circle. The 2017 release confirms these functions but does not specify the exact indication’s scale in the text reviewed, so buyers should inspect clear dial images or the watch itself rather than assume additional functions.
Why these are not the earlier Octo Maserati watches
Bulgari and Maserati used the Octo name for earlier collaboration watches, but their movements and functions differ from the 2017 BVL262 models. Matching the year and calibre is more reliable than relying on “Octo Maserati” alone when identifying a listing.

The earlier specifications come from Maserati’s March 9, 2012 announcement and Bulgari’s 2014 watches catalogue. Maserati described the 2012 model as “issued in a special series bearing the Maserati Trident symbol on its transparent caseback”; that statement concerns the earlier watch, not specifically the 2017 GrandSport or GrandLusso.
Are the GrandSport and GrandLusso still made?
The 2017 release establishes that Bulgari introduced the two references that year, but it gives no production end date. Bulgari’s current Octo collection page, accessed October 8, 2026, presents the collection at a high level and does not name these variants in the page text reviewed. That absence does not prove a specific discontinuation date. The sound description is that they are historical 2017 models; a precise “last made” year is not established.

Use the reference and case material as the first identification checks, then assess the individual watch and seller separately. The launch announcement identifies a model; it cannot authenticate a particular listing or establish its condition.
