The original Japanese MSRP rose from ¥1.50 million for the 1969 Skyline 2000GT-R to ¥7.194444 million for the R35 at its 2007 launch. Those are historical, nominal prices—not what the cars cost today. For a recent R35 reference, Nissan’s 2024 U.S. press kit lists prices from $121,090 for the Premium to $221,090 for the NISMO, before destination and other charges.
Original Japanese MSRP by GT-R generation
The historical figures below are Japanese manufacturer suggested retail prices for the listed launch-year model or grade. The source does not normalize their tax treatment, so they should be compared as nominal yen figures, not converted directly into modern dollars.
| Generation or representative grade | Launch year | Published Japanese MSRP |
|---|---|---|
| PGC10/KPGC10 Skyline 2000GT-R | 1969 | ¥1.50 million |
| KPGC110 Skyline 2000GT-R | 1973 | ¥1.63 million |
| BNR32 Skyline GT-R | 1989 | ¥4.45 million |
| BCNR33 Skyline GT-R V-spec | 1995 | ¥5.29 million |
| BNR34 Skyline GT-R V-spec | 1999 | ¥5.598 million |
| R35 Nissan GT-R | 2007 | ¥7.194444 million |
| R35 Nissan GT-R | 2019 | ¥9.844 million |
The line begins with the 1969 PGC10/KPGC10 and the short-lived KPGC110 that followed in 1973. Nissan revived the GT-R name with the R32 in 1989; the R33 followed in 1995, and the R34 went on sale nationwide on January 8, 1999. The R33 and R34 prices shown here are specifically for V-spec grades, not every version of those generations.
In nominal yen, the 2007 R35 launch price was substantially higher than the 1969 car’s. That does not, by itself, show how affordable either car was in its era: a meaningful affordability comparison would also need inflation and income data, which these figures do not provide.

What the listed prices do—and do not—tell you
Trim matters
A generation does not have one universal price. The R33 and R34 historical anchors above are V-spec prices, while the R35 U.S. figures span several grades. Comparing one listed grade with another is more precise than treating each generation as a single-price model.
A special edition is not the standard two-door GT-R
Nissan’s Heritage Collection records the 1998 R33-based Autech Version 40th Anniversary at ¥4,985,000, with approximately 400 produced. It is a four-door special edition, so its price should be kept separate from the standard two-door GT-R line.

Original MSRP is not today’s used-car value
These figures document new-car prices at particular points in time. They do not establish what an individual GT-R is worth now. A current asking price or sale result is a separate market measure, affected by condition, originality, mileage, import status, scarcity, and when and where it is offered.
