Nissan plans to double the number of NISMO models available globally, from five to ten, but it has not confirmed a separate, NISMO-only production sports car. The company has announced a NISMO concept for Tokyo Auto Salon 2026; its official materials do not identify that concept as a production vehicle.

Is Nissan doubling the NISMO lineup?

Yes—as a goal, not a completed expansion. In a December 16, 2025 announcement, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customization Co., Ltd. (NMC) said they aim to increase globally available NISMO models from five to ten. The companies also set business targets for 2028:

Measure Current figure cited by Nissan 2028 target
Annual shipments Approximately 100,000 Approximately 150,000
Overseas share of sales Approximately 40% 60%
Globally available NISMO models Five Ten

These are company goals stated in Nissan’s December 16, 2025 strategy announcement, not independently verified results. Nissan’s announcement does not provide a model-by-model schedule for reaching ten.

Is Nissan making an exclusive NISMO sports car?

That has not been confirmed in the official materials. Nissan’s lineup-expansion goal does not specify that any new model will be a standalone sports car developed exclusively under the NISMO name. Nor does the announcement say that the concept Nissan has revealed is approved for production.

Nissan said it would actively consider collaborations with outside partners as one way to expand the NISMO business. It did not name a partner or announce a specific collaboration, agreement, or vehicle tied to one.

What is the new NISMO concept?

Nissan announced that a NISMO concept model would make its public debut at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, held January 9–11 at Makuhari Messe. The company presented it as an expression of NISMO’s future direction and performance philosophy—not as a production-car announcement. The strategy release and Nissan’s Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 event page do not state a production name, specifications, price, launch date, or sales commitment for the concept.

Nissan also said it planned to introduce prototype vehicles for racing activities beginning in fiscal year 2026. It described a “road to track, track to road” approach: use racing development to advance hardware and software, then apply that work to NISMO products. That racing plan is distinct from confirmation of a particular road-going sports car.

How does the 2026 Nissan Z NISMO fit in?

The 2026 Nissan Z NISMO listed by Nissan USA is a current example of a Nissan sports car carrying the NISMO badge, with performance and handling changes compared with the Z. It provides context for what a NISMO-badged production car can be, but Nissan has not identified it as the newly announced concept or as a standalone NISMO-only model. Its details and availability apply to the U.S. market and 2026 model year; they should not be assumed to describe vehicles in other markets.
