What Volkswagen has confirmed about the new T-Roc
Volkswagen presented the second-generation T-Roc on 27 August 2025, describing it as developed from scratch. The company announced German presales beginning 28 August and a November 2025 market launch; it also described presales starting in the first European countries at the end of August. A later company overview said European presales had started. These announcements concern Europe, not a U.S. launch. Volkswagen says the new model is longer and roomier than its predecessor, with a redesigned cabin, an infotainment screen measuring up to 13 inches, and updated driver-assistance technology. The company has also named an updated Travel Assist system and remote or memory parking, depending on equipment. Which powertrains has Volkswagen announced?
Initial European launch
For the announced European launch, Volkswagen specified 48-volt mild-hybrid petrol engines paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its drivetrain information lists 85 kW (116 PS) and 110 kW (150 PS) launch variants, with additional hybrid versions and all-wheel drive described as later additions. Full hybrid scheduled for late 2026
On 23 April 2026, Volkswagen announced a full-hybrid system for the Golf and T-Roc, with use scheduled from the fourth quarter of 2026. The company describes two electric motors working with a turbocharged petrol engine and onboard energy recovery. It says the system can enable temporary electric driving without a charging cable or charging infrastructure. Does a testing sighting mean the T-Roc is coming to America?
No. A test vehicle on public roads, even if independently verified, would not by itself prove that Volkswagen plans to sell the model in the United States. The official Volkswagen material available here discusses European presales and launches and does not confirm U.S. availability, an import plan, or a U.S.-market successor.

Volkswagen says more than two million first-generation T-Rocs had been built since the model’s introduction in 2017. The company says it was designed in Germany and built in Portugal. Its overview also describes the outgoing first generation as Europe’s best-selling SUV in 2025; that is Volkswagen’s characterization of the model in that year, not a global ranking or an independently established registration finding. In its 2025 world-premiere announcement, Volkswagen said about 292,000 buyers opted for the T-Roc in 2024 and called it the company’s most successful SUV after the Tiguan.
