A next-generation Toyota Supra developed in-house, potentially sharing its platform with a future Mazda sports car, remains a reported possibility—not a program confirmed in the official sources reviewed. Toyota has confirmed that production of the fifth-generation GR Supra is scheduled to end in spring 2026, but neither Toyota nor Mazda has publicly confirmed the successor’s development, its platform, or a Mazda counterpart.
What Toyota has confirmed about the Supra
On April 3, 2025, Toyota announced the 2026 GR Supra MkV Final Edition and described it as the final model year of the fifth generation. The company said, “Production of the fifth-generation GR Supra will end Spring 2026.” The statement concerns the current generation; it does not announce a replacement. Toyota USA Newsroom’s announcement is the official source for that timing.
For the outgoing U.S.-market 2026 model, Toyota lists a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six rated at 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque. Those are specifications for the fifth-generation car, not evidence of an engine choice for a next-gen Supra. Toyota’s U.S. GR Supra page provides the current-model information.
Is the next-gen Toyota Supra being developed in-house?
The official material reviewed does not confirm that Toyota has approved or is developing a next-generation Supra in-house. Toyota describes its broader development approach, including the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and an in-house company system, but a corporate overview of that system is not confirmation of a specific Supra project. Toyota’s overview of its production and development approach should be read in that general context.

Accordingly, “being developed in-house” should be treated as a claim in reporting, not an established fact from Toyota. The reviewed official sources do not identify a successor’s development team, platform, powertrain, or launch timing.
Could a future Mazda sports car share the platform?
Mazda’s 2025 integrated report discusses cooperation with Toyota and other partners as part of its wider corporate strategy. It does not identify a joint next-generation Supra or confirm that a future Mazda sports car will share its platform. Mazda’s 2025 integrated report supports the broader point that the companies collaborate, not the specific platform-sharing claim.

Toyota and Mazda’s existing cooperation therefore cannot, on its own, establish that a Mazda sports car is planned on a Supra platform. No Mazda model, shared architecture, or development arrangement for such a car is confirmed in the official material reviewed.
Why the fifth-generation Supra is relevant precedent, not proof
The previous Supra’s development shows that a Toyota-badged sports car need not have been developed on a wholly Toyota platform. Toyota’s history of the fifth-generation car says that Toyota and BMW made plans in 2012 to jointly develop a shared sports-car platform. That history explains why platform partnerships are plausible in principle; it does not establish what Toyota or Mazda may do next. Toyota’s fifth-generation Supra history describes the earlier collaboration.

What remains unknown
Until Toyota or Mazda confirms a successor, the central details remain unsettled. The official sources reviewed do not establish:
- Whether Toyota has formally authorized a next-generation Supra.
- Whether development would be wholly in-house or involve another automaker.
- Whether any future Mazda sports car would share the car’s platform.
- What engine, power output, model name, or launch window a successor might have.
Reports may eventually provide specific answers, but details such as a platform, engine supplier, Mazda counterpart, or timing require attribution to the original reporting or direct confirmation from the manufacturers.
