Triumph has announced the Bonneville T40 and T40 Black as classic-styled additions to its small-capacity range. The global launch describes both as liquid-cooled 400cc singles, but specifications differ on Triumph’s India-market T40 Black page, which lists a 350cc engine. Triumph says pricing will be announced in early 2027, with dealer arrivals expected from spring 2027.
What are the Triumph Bonneville T40 and T40 Black?
Announced on 6 October 2026, the T40 and T40 Black bring Bonneville styling to Triumph’s smaller-capacity motorcycle family. Both have a sculpted teardrop tank, round headlight, traditional-looking engine profile, spoked wheels, twin-shock rear suspension and a peashooter-style silencer, according to Triumph’s global announcement.
Triumph describes the T40 Black as the darker of the two. Its stated finish combines Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black paint, gloss-black wheel rims with bright spokes, and powder-coated engine casings. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent road-test observations.
Engine specifications vary by market
Triumph’s published figures are not consistent across its global, US and India pages. The figures below should be read as market-specific listings; Triumph’s reviewed pages do not explain the differences, so they should not be attributed to regulation or other causes.

The global release calls the engine a liquid-cooled single with a Bonneville-specific tune. For buyers, the relevant specification is the one Triumph lists for their country and model: the global 400cc description should not be applied automatically to the India-market T40 Black listing.
Features Triumph says are included
Triumph’s global announcement lists a 4-inch circular full-colour TFT with smartphone connectivity for navigation, calls and music. It also specifies five riding modes—three preset and two customisable—cruise control, lean-sensitive Optimised Cornering ABS and Optimised Cornering Traction Control. Triumph says the motorcycles are A2 licence compliant as standard. These are manufacturer-stated features; local specifications and availability should be confirmed with Triumph for the intended market.

How the T40 Black differs
The T40 Black is presented primarily as a finish variant, with darker paint and blacked-out engine casings and wheel rims. Triumph’s announcement identifies the T40 and T40 Black as stylistic versions but does not provide a complete market-by-market comparison of equipment or pricing. Check the local product listing for any differences beyond the finishes described.
Price and expected availability
Triumph says it will announce pricing in early 2027 and expects the first motorcycles to arrive in dealerships from spring 2027. The announcement gives neither a final price nor a precise delivery date or market-by-market rollout schedule. Buyers should check their country’s Triumph site or a local dealer as launch details are confirmed.

Triumph says genuine accessories will be available from launch, including low seats, comfort seats and classic panniers. The announcement does not establish each item’s price, fitment or regional availability, so confirm those details with a dealer before ordering. Triumph also reports that more than 60,000 motorcycles on its 400cc platform have been sold across over 50 countries; that is the company’s own reported milestone, not an independently audited figure.
